Haven’t been posting very much because I’ve been busy but I still love my F/o’s very much!

Posting this here because I have some advice I wanna share with the self ship community and it’s to stop caring. I see so many who post things and get upset when it doesn’t get as much recognition as they would like it to get which is valid because you want the things you put effort into to be recognized.

I was doing the exact same thing and getting upset when my stuff wasn’t getting anywhere so I took a step back and realized how freeing it was to make self shipping more of a private thing again. By expecting likes and reblogs I was turning something I loved into something I dreaded and I don’t want y’all’s to have that same experience.

I’m not saying to leave the self ship community but try writing or drawing things without posting them and not having to worry about what other people think about it if that makes sense

I’m thinking about deleting this blog and maybe starting from scratch. Nothing has really changed with me and selfshipping but I don’t really like this blog that much anymore if that makes sense and I would just like a do over

Hey selfshippers, remember that self shipping is not a popularity contest. It’s valid to want likes, reblogs, and follows but please don’t feel discouraged if you’re not as popular as other selfshippers. It doesn’t make your ships any less special. Don’t forget that selfshipping is for you and no one else.

It’s also understandable if you feel scared to interact with the community or feel like you don’t belong in it. I’m sad to say that sometimes the community can feel really distant and closed off.

Don’t feel pressured to create content either. If people unfollow you because you’re not that active then it’s their loss.

With that being said I’m gonna be taking a little break from this blog! Not because anything happened and I still love my F/o’s very much but I think I’m spreading myself too thin at the moment.

yes i am 100% in the camp that people need to f/o more dark-skinned characters but lemme lay downs some other bare minimum things that yall arent really doing:

be critical of the characters youre f/oing. some of yall are getting attracted to literal walking caricatures of black people

be critical of the way said character is treated in canon. are they hypersexualized? do they often get whitewashed? are they treated as equals with the lighter-skinned members of the cast? etc

do not be Weird about them. this includes often portraying them with animalistic traits in your ship, treating them as overly flirtatious and sex-driven when they are Not Like That in canon, being weird about their culture or stuff

and im certain theres more too that just doesnt come to mind right now but yall need to be more mindful of how youre treating your darker-skinned f/os
