Biography: (TRIGGERS: mild mention of torture and kidnapping)
Mirae was born to a family that had served Merfolk royalty for generations and while he respected the role that his father had devoted himself to — an advisor to the king and queen — Mirae initially took to healing and decided that this would be his path in life. He was pure of heart, intent on developing new remedies that could help their kind recover from injury and prevent disease and illness. He was caring and gentle, very intelligent and these things made him a valued medic, particularly to the royal family and their armies. While he didn’t enjoy bloodshed, he valued the opportunity to help people.
Sometime later, the entire Jeung family went missing without explanation. Some believed they had been under the influence of something dark and had wandered into the Abyss, taken by the haunted within and had simply never returned. But those close to the family knew they would have never abandoned their posts beside the royal family and that something was amiss.
In reality, Mirae’s father’s curiosity for the outside world had been their downfall. While Mirae is secretive about the details of the night he and his family went missing, what is known is that he had been captured by human’s, initially for the sale value of his scales, but this quickly led to prolonged experimentation and torture which spanned on for many years. In order to escape, it is believed he was able to make a deal with a captive Fae in order to gain legs and work together to escape.
Despite his initial want to refrain from violence, his time held captive caused Mirae to want to learn how to defend himself and he lived in and out of the sea for a period of time in order to do so. He felt safer with the knowledge that he could defend himself and his time to and from land gained him acquaintances and alliances outside of The Forgotten.
Later, he returned to the kingdom to take up his family’s original post - this was around the time of the formation of The Haven, where he has remained ever since. He became an advisor to the king, taking on the role that had once belonged to his father. He has retained this role ever since, now to the new king of The Forgotten. His need to visit the surface mainly revolves around the needs of the crown and research purposes, although he would be lying to himself if he didn’t admit that sometimes he hoped to find a trace of his lost family. Some of the court still remain suspicious of Mirae and his family to this day and wonder why the crown allowed him to return to his position.
Headcanons:
Mirae has a great interest and love of medicine and plant life.
He has a weakness for heading to the surface in search of his lost family. After years held captive, he sometimes finds it’s difficult to be in The Forgotten for an extended period of time, but does so out of duty to the king (and the royal family in general).
Mirae has several scars from his time heldcaptive and subsequent torture.
While he knows he should be keeping his distance from other species and that it is safer in the sea, sometimes the suspicion on his own kind can have him seeking out company elsewhere, albeit the time in which he has to do this is often very limited.
He’s a skilled archer and swordsman and though he would prefer that he didn’t have to use them again, he knows it will likely be a necessity.
His tale is a dark purple, with some areas that have darkened to a very deep blue, almost black.
Wanted connections:
“All my tears have been used up” - An old love. Merfolk. I pictured this being someone in the Forgotton that Mirae had a relationship with before he and his family went missing (their departure was roughly around 410 years ago when the first scale harvesting began.) Most likely his first love. How their situation has ended up present day can be plotted!
~
“That if you talk enough sense, then you’ll lose your mind” - The Fae who helped him escape captivity. Fae. This is a Fae that would have been held captive by the same humans as Mirae for a portion of time. Mirae was able to strike a bargain with them for legs and they both plotted their escape together. The kind of relationship they had is up for plotting & also the kind of relationship they have today. I imagine they would still be in contact despite the fact that they shouldn’t be.
~
“Oh forgive me, for I love being bad for you” - Affiliates on land - All species. This could range from friends / lovers - and/or flings / ex lovers / enemies. (A note for lovers/flings etc, Mirae uses this as a bit of a coping mechanism because he doesn’t feel entirely at home in the Forgotten due to how long he spent in captivity and the level of torment/torture he experienced during that time. It’s also difficult for him because of the level of suspicion within the court, so he’s open to making potentially dangerous choices of lovers. Because he’s a dumb boi like that. )
~
“The past ain’t through with you” - Someone who helped train him in combat - all species besides Merfolk. This would have been after his escape from capture and before his return to the royal court.
~
“Or will you tell me anything I wanna hear” - Someone who supplies him with information - all species besides Merfolk. Potentially those who he already has some kind of alliance with on land that might be inclined to give him any information that might be useful to the Mer (this can be out of care if they’re friends etc or for a price if they have a business relationship. People are also welcome to just threaten him for overstepping lol.)
~
“The light behind your eyes” - Friends within the forgotten. Merfolk. This could be new friends made after his family’s disappearance, or ones that he retained from before. Just to note, a lot of the court are still suspicious of Mirae and his family & the circumstances in which they disappeared.
~
“The healer” - Medic allies. Any species. This could be Mer that trained with him originally, or perhaps people he met while on land that are in a similar field.
~
“You can’t spell lonesome without me.” - Enemies and those who are suspicious of him within the forgotten - Merfolk. These people will be wondering why the crown allowed him to return to his family’s post as advisor when the family vanished under such strange circumstances.
~
“Fill my lungs with the air your heart is breathing” - Any species - the beginnings of a new love/romance. This would obviously be quite a big plot that would develop over time. Open to lots of different ways this could go, I guess depending on the personality/background/species of the muse. Someone that would become aware of Mirae’s past trauma, or the way he uses the land as a coping mechanism. Lots of ways to go with this one tbh!
~~
Open to all any and all idea’s though so just drop me a message if none of the above suit! ♡
