Didier merely gave the sorcerer a coy smile, seemed like it may have struck a chord - perhaps not one of emotional platitude. However, it was certainly enough to entice her to spark a heated debate. Then again, it was her break and this sort of thing could go on for a few hours. With a half-hearted shrug, she withdrew her tin and resumed her place against the wall.

"I suppose it would be the same if that idea was turned upon its head. If one were to relieve themselves of magic, would that make them human..? Or would it leave them an empty husk?" A chuckle escaped her, flicking away the dead embers at the ends of her cigarette. "That could mean a monster could become human, no? Pay me no heed, these are just some abstract ramblings from a very overworked gentleman."

Ramblings, as they were - they did pose a question that Didier hadn't found an answer to yet. Since her company was quite sobering, if this man's melancholic philosophy was anything. She could probably find a root for what she was looking for.

"Key memories, you say? Well, I have a few in that case. However they do not define who I am in this very moment nor will they. Right now, I am merely enjoying my break with a complete and utter stranger. That is who I am until I have to go and resume work. Then I am the, like I said, 'very overworked gentleman' hmhm." She flicked the remainder of her drag to the floor, crushing it with a heel. "These memories can only follow you so far and in turn - maybe more will manifest and kick that key moment to the curb. Who can really say? Not me, for I am not you."

The tone she wore for the entirety of the conversation was a relaxed sort, soft but not in the gentle sense of the word. It was obvious she wasn't fully on board with what he had to say, yet Didier understood nonetheless. It was almost refreshing to be able to hold a conversation with this amount depth.

She quirked a bemused expression before her shoulders shook with another husky laugh. "It is quite alright, not many people are able to air out their thoughts. You certainly the first to not take offense to my advice. You deserve a round of applause hmhm."

“My word, a spy or little miss red riding hood lost on the way to her grandmothers house? Rest assured I am not of the canine variant, your life is spared. just barely perhaps. Hmhm.”

 Despite her previous monologue, the guardian found herself to be - just ever so slightly - surprised that she had a guest.

“And in return I gladly welcome you to my office. What is it that you so need?”

"My, my! It is a human concept to regress, is it not? Most species in the animal kingdom do not have this ability. After all, most of it survival instinct. To rely on passes of guilt, why! That could be a hindrance... perhaps that is why dogs have been watered down to become so weak." Didier chuckled to herself, raising a brow to her companion. "Ah, I believe I got ahead of myself in a moment passion. Worry not, I believe you when you say you are not of mortal pedigree hmhm."

A hand slipped inside of her jacket, fishing out the contents of a tobacco box and offered it to him. He could do with a few puffs, she had previously thought. After all - not only did it help her breathe, it became a sort of coping mechanism.

"Memories are just memories, that they are. While these ones might hurt. It is better to just acknowledge that it happened rather than add more meat to its stew." Her eyes remained trained to him, a little out of pity, more out of curiosity.

"It bothers me none, after all the night is a kind mistress for those with a lot on their mind. That in mind, my break could have been less than interesting otherwise.”

Didier took a long drag of her cigarette, while shifting comfortably in her position. She wasn't expecting to overhear a fellows woe this late into the night. But it was certainly better than a lackluster silence.

"The past is the past, no?" She wore a thin smile, waving her busied hand. "Something to be left behind for a present and possibly a future. If that is, you could think far enough."

"My, my! It has been quite the age since I have managed to get some free time. Nice as it is, I honestly do not know what to do with myself. Hmhm...”

Rain, rain, rain. It had been raining nonstop this week, and it was driving Eli mad. He couldn’t leave his house without an umbrella, and even then he would still somehow get his clothes all wet. It was just his luck that he managed to be in the right place at the right time.. To get covered in muddy water by a car driving by the sidewalk he walked on. These were some of his nicer clothes, too! He let out a loud groan in response, folding up his umbrella and letting it hang off his bag. He didn’t care anymore. He was covered in mud already, a little clean water wouldn’t do any harm.

He pulled out his phone, scrolling through a page he already had open to check the bus times. It seemed there would be one, the only one that would take him back home, but it was coming in a couple hours.  “Seriously?” he accidentally said out loud, arriving at the stop and looking around for something to do while he waited. There was a coffee shop across the street, and it looked to be rather nice. A cup of coffee sounded really good, too. 

Eli made his way across the street, getting in line only to notice it had been a bit busier than he expected. Regardless, he ordered his coffee, and walked around to see if he could find any open seat at all. It was proving to be difficult. At least until he noticed one smaller table with an empty chair, and a rather lovely looking woman sitting down across from it. She looked rather peaceful minding her own business, and Eli hated to interrupt her at all, but he did need a place to sit for a while. With his coffee in hand, he walked over, not quite dripping anymore as he offered the friendliest smile he could manage.

“..Um, sorry to disturb you, Miss, but… All other tables are full, do you mind if I sit here for a while?…”

It had been a hard week, not that all the others had not been difficult. This one in particular had tried a certain lady's patience. Odd slip ups, the occasional absence and of course one could not forget the negligence of customer service. If it was not Didier's establishment, she would have filed several complaints on the spot. Alas, the shameful display fell upon her shoulders. Several hours wasted -- thanks to her own staff no less. Reinstating training and entertaining the most sincerest apologies to her clientele...

Why Didier was absolutely exhausted! Her nerves set a fray and a body ached for a much needed respite. The usual spot at the favourite café was just the remedy for unending stress. A few blocks down from the museum, it would take a brisk walk if not for the doom and gloom shrouding overhead. She was not going to deal with rain, not today. No.

It was not long before she had found herself inside the quaint building. She thanked her lucky stars that she had brought her car with her to work. She rarely used it, in fear of mussing the paintwork however - it was nice to flash it every once in a while. After ordering herself the first coffee of the day, with a delightful pastry to accompany it - Didier settled within the seat, taking in the rustic atmosphere. The smell of a dark roast mixed with old parchment filled the senses. The warm earthy tones of wooden interior with the paintings and odd trinkets that local artists contributed to get commission.

It felt like a bookshop than a café, a second home if only in the company of strangers.

She felt something small tug at her lips once she brandished a book from her bag. Leafing through to the last place she left off. Didier was finally at ease, completely in the feeling of calm before lulling herself back into the fictitious world upon the page.

Or rather, she was until a deep voice cut straight through the sentence she was reading. Her dark narrow eyes peered up from the corners of her book. It had belonged to a very wet and muddy young man, red hair glued to his more prominent features and more notably -- he just smelled like a damp pup.

Didier arched a brow for just a moment, forcing down disdain with a smile of her own - lowering the book toward the table. "Oh, are there no other seats..?" She glanced around with just a tilt of her head, to her dismay she must have not noticed the rush. "...Mm, I see. Well, go ahead, no one else is using that chair." There goes a peaceful afternoon alone...

“And you doubt that these are things I can do myself? Of course I don’t let Ren know about myself. Not that I can stop you telling him now whether I asked nicely or not; it doesn’t matter.” Ren had been clueless all this time, and his resident ghost had made doubly sure he left no trace behind, whatever he’d been up to; the guardian would wake as if it were any other day with barely a hair misplaced, nothing amiss - likely at his desk - just like a typical, long day, sleeping in the midst of paperwork skyscrapers. Well, no trace save for the bodies strewn about the zone night by night. Angelo knew, but for whatever reason, it seemed he’d kept quiet about all this.

Mismatched eyes rolled. He knew it was going to come to a point where the inevitably of something unsavoury surfacing would soon turn up. “I already said you were being selfish… But because you’re curious about me? I don’t see much glamour in digging up stuff about me that you’d find…I don’t know. Worthwhile, to that end?” Mostly, he knew that despite whatever he thought about it all, it would definitely pain Didier to hear of it; although now that he was out of hiding, it would only be a matter of time before she’d be pressing for details rather than the cloth to wounds…though Ashmire had already prompted for her hand to stop. She had a good point though, from where she was standing. “To entwine myself with my brother’s being? Of the two, he was the better choice in the end. At least as my brother, I knew we’d be pretty compatible, regardless of what I thought of him.”

“Mother, on the other hand…was just a means to an end. Especially after she went out of her way to try burn me to cinders like the rest of the godforsaken house. As if she hadn’t done quite enough already? That fire and her folly turned out to be very convenient though…for me. She should’ve just forgotten about me right? Let the past just die.” Ashmire really would have been alone, then. In truth, that was exactly what the departed male didn’t want - in the end his mother’s mistake was his salvation. The house fire from many years before. For Didier, it was the first and last she had seen of him, alike to the way she’d observed him now, although before it was hard to tell if anything was out of the ordinary; Ashmire’s hold was weak to match Ren’s own poor state - no defiance in the face of what could very well have been their peril. “Now you…You…saw eye-to-eye with me for only a moment that night, before I went under for - how long has it been now - almost a decade?" 

"I remember it as if it happened yesterday… and I liked to think that horror and concern was for me, even though I knew it wasn’t. Regardless, seeing you I just knew I was safe after all, that you would take of everything while I recuperated.” Leaning close to her, dark digits perched upon Didier’s cheek, hair gently coiling and bumping against the curve of her shoulder. Even with the blind eye, it was as if a stare bore down from both, cradling the lady’s face with a slight turn to tease a look back from the other as Ashmire had a hold of her. “Lo and behold you did… And once again, here I am.” Pausing, a finger raised, strayed from the gentlewoman’s soft skin for a moment in a sudden realisation. Intrigue seemed to escape his throat, before withdrawing a touch likely too close for comfort. “…And yet… Angelo never told any of you? I find that so interesting…” Claws clutched at the painter’s own cheek, drumming playfully against it as eyes looked elsewhere in an idle search within his thoughts. “Did he just hope I’d never come back? Not have the strength to override my brother, even in his sleep? Or was he actively trying to find a way to get rid of me so he wouldn’t have to ever bring it up? Be Ren’s little hero, after letting me take his master?" 

Ashmire seemed genuinely in stitches trying to think about the reasons the butler had to just stay quiet for eight years. What power did Angelo even think he had to make things ‘right’? It was beyond even Ren’s possessor, chortling as such thoughts stirred about. "Big pride for such a small guy. Ooh, I’m going to have words with that deluded little shit…”

Information spun out of the male's mouth, they were fragments to some grander questions that even she couldn't coherently piece together. The nerves stopped cold as her veins stalled to a halt. In the basin did she hope for an answer, but only a rosy visage returned with an even more perplexed glare. Before she could fall deeper into speculation, a force pulled the attention of the guardian away.

With herself face to face with the painter, the steely gaze of the blind and the warmth of the amber made her suddenly short of breath. In truth, it was the second time Didier had seen the entirety of Renaissance, since the incident. The crisp details of the burn had curled to silver indents, each one held its unique mark with its own sad retelling of its birth. It was a tragic sort of beautiful. One could say he was a work of art, but to her - he was something beyond a frame. To put it simply, it was complex - even words of a wonderful descript would fall flat and even tarnish the truth.

In that moment, she forgot her previous insistence that he should adhere to her rules. The soft caress and the sheer intensity of his gaze - she felt her grip loosening upon the hand towel. Through these ambling emotions did her brow soften as her lips part, the news hit like a hurricane. The new information spiraled within her mind, her eyes searching desperately for some semblance of sense. The memories were vivid, it had only been an hour since she arrived alone at port and when a glaze of embers climbed into the night sky. The young Didier found herself running into a sprint, hoping that her skirts and heels would not slow her. Fighting with disagreeable garments to ensure the safety of her dearest friend... the next thing she remembered, the adolescent was gathered within her panic stricken hold. Tears threatening to spill, he seemed so small - with his injuries great, he was still breathing. Staring at her all the while... .

..Only to find that eight years down the line, the tender gaze was from Ashmire.

"Angelo had his reasons, perhaps." She replied as her sense of reality returned. "...From how you treated him earlier, it is any wonder why he would even try to make nice or even give you the benefit of the doubt."

Her features creased into a scowl as the false guardian mocked the misgivings of the butler. It was nothing more than a ruse to ruffle her somewhat. Still, a guilt pitted itself in the edges of her heart yet other thoughts and newer emotions had kept it beneath the surface.

The motions that followed were wordless, pushing herself to her feet - slowly gathering a clean towel in her hands. She made her way toward the table with the set of clothes left to her. Upon unfolding, was it apparent that the shirt was one of Ren's youth, it was just a little half his size now - though it would hold loosely on her form. She clenched her fingers to a tight ball. Wincing her eyes shut, she knew something had to be said. Thank you..? I'm sorry...?

Didier wouldn't look at him. She couldn't.

"Did your mother honestly loathe you so much, to give all that she had to take all?" It was a quiet voice that was mustered, one that held a hardened tone but also something else entirely. "More importantly, why did you not say a thing? If you were capable of murdering... then certainly you could have explained yourself."

Her fingers fumbled for the buttons of her shirt, its dampness clung to her ribs - peeling it back would not be pleasant. Though she had little choice in the matter. Once free from its prison, she began wiping down her moist skin with the towel - granted the shirt still held her shoulders. However she wanted to analyse the damage.

A sigh bristled from her, almost from relief before briefly glancing back. “You could have at least thanked me, you know.”
