BIOGRAPHY !
Miriam Lara Spyrou was born in the middle of a storm and maybe that was a warning to her parents how much of a storm their middle child would be. Isaak and Lara met in college when Lara came to Greece for college. They were nothing more than partners in biology for a semester, parted ways at the end and thought they'd never see each other on the vast campus. But the following semester they ended up in a literature class together. And then the next semester they were in a math class together. And finally they ended up at the same summer break destination. They started hanging out and that was the end of that and the rest was history. They married at twenty six, Lara getting work in a college in the bursar office of the college in Issak's hometown. Isaak got a job as a marine biologist. Their first son was born two years after their marriage. Then Miriam came two years later and finally a year and a half later Raya. Unlike her two siblings, Miriam was a whirlwind, never sitting still for even a second. Neither of her parents could keep up with her.
She was five years old when her father first took her out on a boat. He wanted to show her his work, but Miriam was more fascinated by the boat than she was the fish. He took her on a sail boat shortly after and Miriam became incredibly curious about how it worked. From then on, she was fascinated by watching the different boats on the water, waiting for the day she could finally learn herself. Her parents weren't going to encourage that, but thankfully Miriam's grandfather used to sail for fun. If nothing else, she was a stubborn child. Her mom tried to move her fascination to something academic rather than sports, but Miriam wasn't interested. She played volleyball in middle school and high school, focusing all her spare time into fixing up a boat with her grandfather. He promised her when they fixed it up, he'd teach her to sail.
Coming from a very academic family, Miriam was expected to do well in school and she did... for the most part. She wasn't academic minded like her brother or a quiet observer like her sister, she argued with her teachers and was loud most of the time. She watched as her older brother graduated and went off to college, her sister skipping a grade and became her classmate. But Miriam had her own skills she was good at and she was determined to make it work When she was sixteen, she and her grandfather finished the boat and he took her out on the ocean for the first time. He taught her to sail and she loved it so much that she begged her parents to let her join a competitive sailing team. And from then on her life was complete.
Miriam met a girl in her sailing club when she turned eighteen who she quickly fell in love with. She and Katina could be found on the water most of the time, training together. The two of them were talented enough that they were talented enough that they were close enough to competing in the Olympics, but they got into an argument and broke up—Katina took off to America. Heartbroken, Miriam didn't know what to do with her life. Sailing had been her everything and she'd let a relationship get in the way of her career, making such a critical mistake in trusting Katina . Only six months later did her grandfather get sick and passed away. He gave her the boat and Miriam took off on the water. She sailed from Greece and kept going. At first she was looking for Katina. She still followed the other social media and could see the woman's trail, but then she started to remember how much she loved sailing. Three weeks into her trip, she started blogging her trip on YouTube and people started following her. Although she never intended to make a following on it, she was enjoying the positive attention.
Aurora Bay was supposed to be a stop. She was planning on keeping her trip going, but why not stop in town and taking a break? Miriam got a job at the Scuba Club, bartending on the side at Sea Foam. She's trying to live her life, remind herself why she started sailing in the first place—because of her love of boats, being on the water, and enjoying the waves. Miriam might be taking a break from her sailing journey, but she takes her boat out quite often on shorter trips, uploading the videos for those curious about her adventures. While she does miss home sometimes, she absolutely knows that her family understands and who knows... maybe she'll convince them to move to Aurora Bay.
Hinata was still trying his best to get out and be more sociable but he found himself incredibly awkward at it all, so he decided it would be easier to do so by asking someone that had a lot in common with him to do things together. So, he asked Miriam. The two worked together and she was cool, so he thought he'd invite her to drinks.
"My cousin owns this bar. Just a little fun fact, ya know." He shrugged, finding this whole making friends thing was pretty awkward.
Miriam was so new to town that she jumped on any opportunity to meet new people and hang out with someone outside work. She was curious to see more of this town and more of what it had to offer since she was probably going to stick around for a little longer. Being away from home was nice and she felt like she was closer to finding her ex.
"No way! That's so cool." Owning a business seemed like a really fun thing to do. She had no idea what kind of work that took. "Does that mean you get free drinks?" Miriam tilted her head to the side and grinned. She didn't care if it was shameless to ask. "Or at least a discount."
"Sailin'?" He questions, interest piqued. "Y'sail? What size boat ya got?" Sailing was one thing he never got the hang of especially in less than perfect weather. Too many factors to take into account, too many ways shit could go wrong, someone sailing confidently was respectable. Though the second part of her response didn't clear things up much. "How's that stoppin' ya from goin' out on th'water?"
"She's 35 feet. My dad took me to work with him once. He's a biologist, works with a lot of fish, wanted to show me the job. I fell in love with the boat." He'd been annoyed at that too. But she loved it regardless. "I stopped here for a break. I'm sticking around for a bit, but I don't know how long I want to stay here for. So it's more of a do I want to move my whole house." Granted the boat was still a tiny space. "
"I'm more of a yacht girl myself," Eloise admits, "I don't suppose you're wearing a bikini while you sail? Should I be calling you a captain? I'm Eloise by the way."@miriamspyrou
"I've never been on a yacht. Seems boring to not, you know, work on the boat when you're on it." Sailing was the fun part of being on the water. Of course Miriam couldn't be too picky. "Oh, please don't. That always makes me feel official. Which I mean I guess I am, but I hate responsibility. I'm Miriam."
"People go all out, dude. It's pretty cool. I've never won anything, but they have like costume contests and stuff. Couple costumes are a hit. Kind of went solo last year."
"I love that. I never really had time to celebrate Halloween back home. I was always more of a stay at home and hand out candy kind of person and then have a scary movie marathon. However, I do enjoy dressing up. Oh? Couple's costumes. If you went solo last year then is there a special someone now that you think you'll take next year?"
"You live on a boat?" Gillian asked, her curiosity definitely piqued. "That sounds rad as hell--yanno, minus the seasickness. Or, well, do you get seasick? Or does your body just build up a tolerance like with dairy?" she rambled. "I will say though, as someone who pretty much grew up in an RV, those vacuum seal bag things were a game changer. Or storage bins? Those came in clutch too when it came time to swap out the parkas." She moved away from the rack she'd been perusing, a denim overshirt draped over her arm along with an old Van Halen tank top she'd immediately nabbed. "There's gonna be a fair in a few weeks? Happens every year to kick off the summer. There was this cute Ren faire thing last year too? People dressed up for that. But otherwise I think you're good on needing specifics til the end of the year? The Bay goes big for Halloween in particular."
Miriam got that a lot. A bunch of people who didn't really think living on a boat was all that fun or interesting. "I don't think I've ever gotten seasickness before. Maybe when I was little. I've been on boats since I was like... a baby." That wasn't true, but it felt like it. "Wait an RV? Are we the same person but you're on land and I'm in the water?" Miriam laughed at her own joke. "I have a few storage bins. I find it kind of wasteful to have too much as far as clothing goes. I donno. I like to live with nothing." She nodded as she listened to the different events that the town held. "Ohhhhh, a fair! Like the American ones I see in the movies?" Maybe she should stick around longer. "Someone else mentioned Halloween earlier. I think that's great. I love Halloween. I never really celebrated it back home."
"You live on a boat?" Her eyes widen with a hint of both shock and amusement—unsure if that's the coolest or scariest things she's ever heard, "That don't freak you out? I feel like if that were me, I'd be scared to death 'bout that thing tippin' over and makin' me the next shark meal."
And now that it's out there, Dixie wonders if maybe that's a thought she should've kept to herself. A worry that instantly subsides the second she hears the word dress and event: her two favorite things.
"I mean, I don't think you've gotta buy sometin' for every event 'cause they do tend to have a lot of 'em, so maybe like one or two would suffice. You need help findin' somethin'? I may not work here, but I know this place like the back of my hand."
"I do indeed live on a boat. Well for now at least." Miriam wasn't sure if she was going to live there forever, she surely didn't want to make this town her home for good. This was a stopping point for now. "No, I've been sailing for 10 years now. I've practically lived on the water since I was born. There's really not that many shark attacks every year. The movies make it seem like it happens more often. I'm more afraid of people on land than sea creatures." Miriam shrugged.
"Well it's more like I don't have many clothes to begin with and a lot of mine are old or worn from all the time they've spent out in the sun." All her stuff was mostly work clothes that were not appropriate to wear to a nice event. "Are they usually more casual or are there fancy events? I'd love help. I'm Miriam."
"Only been in it a couple times. Freak storms came through." Those were some memories he wouldn't forget, as short lived as the snow was the change of pace was nice. "Was gone by evenin'." He followed her gaze to the water before his eyes shifted back to her. "What's keepin' ya?"
"I've been sailing in freak storms before, but it doesn't snow a lot where I come from. Mostly rains." She liked the rain though, just not really when she was stuck in a storm on the ocean. "I don't know. Probably that I don't really want to move my home again yet and I'm not renting a boat when I own a perfectly good one."
"It's kind of too early but there's always a sick Halloween party at Sharky's in October." Diego shrugs, "if you're into that kind of thing, I guess it's not really too early, huh?"
"Well, my friend," she turned to him, "I'm glad you told me. I need at least three solid months to plan my costume." A Halloween party did seem nice, if she stuck around here that long that was. "I love dressing up."
"I haven't been steadily back since I was in high school, but the town does love a good party," she responds, "you should be fine through the summer, though."
Miriam had no idea what to expect in a town like this one because she was from a town that was much bigger. She'd spent her time on the water, rather than in small towns like this one. "I'm holding you to that." She went through the rack some more to see if there was anything cute. "My wardrobe mostly consists of clothing I can sail in."
"Pass, pass, pass." Miriam shuffled the clothing on the rack. "The problem with living on a boat means I have to be picky with clothing. I have no space at all for stuff I'm never going to wear again." Which was why she normally grabbed new items from thrift stores since it was... well cheaper. "I need some more summer time dresses since I'm going to be sticking around here for a bit." Miriam looked at the person beside her. "Does this town do a lot of events I should be prepared to spend money on an outfit for?"
"I've never actually been in snow before, but I'll take your word for it. I'm a warm weather girlie." Miriam finished applying sunscreen and looked outside at the water longingly. "I wanna get out there like now."

"Alright, so here's the deal..." Jaime starts off, "I accidentally double purchased some tickets to get a tour of the Winchester Mystery House and it turns out, they're non refundable. Rather than wallow in self misery, I'm bestowing these extra tickets to whoever can give me the most interesting fact they've ever heard. I will be fact checking these tidbits of information so don't try to one up anyone by lying. And... go."
"What's the Winchester Mystery House and why would anyone want to visit it?" Miriam was new in town and didn't know what there was to do around here. A mystery house did seem like fun, but she really wanted to be sure it was something she wanted to give out a free fun fact to get. "Cause that really determines, you know, how cool my fun fact is or whatever. I don't give those away for free."
