「巫女」:: Well, at the very least he acknowledged that no matter what-there was no absolutes in her safety, and even if he didn’t say it aloud-that she was quite the powerhouse in her own right. It showed a level of confidence and respect for her that most people scoffed at.
She sighed a little and nodded in agreement with everything he said. Funny or not it was indeed true. Though she had to add…::
“He’ll scoff and tell me he’s fine too…Never wants to show weakness that one. Or ask for help…Even from his own wife…But I do suppose that this would likely be the most effective way of getting him out. You’re right…”
::she sat back some and looked over toward the direction the youkai had gone-::
“How shall I let you know when I’ve located him? There should be some kind of message-so you know when you can retreat yourself. Sango-chan would never forgive me if I allowed you to get hurt or killed either…”
“Yeah, he can be stubborn like that but I’ll admit, I do the same to Sango. I don’t like to see her scared or worried so I try to assure him I’m fine even if I’m not. Unfortunately for me she can see past the facade and force me to tell her the truth. You’re the same way with Inuyasha,” Miroku smiled tenderly as he thought of his wife. He hoped that she was able to get the girls to go to bed easily enough.
Miroku stood up from where he had been seated cross legged on the ground and stretched a bit, tenderly moving his freshly bandaged arm. At the thought of Sango being mad at Kagome he chuckled. “Eh, she’d forgive you. Sango would probably be more mad at me if I up and got myself killed. After all, three kids is a lot of work~” he stared out into the darkening sky, the breeze tugging at his bangs across his eyes.
“If you have an arrow to spare how about you shoot that up into the air. I should be able to see the light from your purification energy,” he offered up to her.
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: She wasn’t completely able to use the white magic ability…She couldn’t heal broken bones and poison was out of her reach to cure as well…But she’d come a long way in the months she’d chosen to train in this clandestine magic. She was surprised as anything though, when she’d discovered she had the talent. None of the miko she’d heard of or met before had it….But in any case she gazed at him as he crossed his healed arm over his chest.
She listened to what he had to say, congenially comparing the youkai they were faced with now to one he and the hanyou had taken down some months ago, She wondered how they had actually managed to take it down–and if that might work on this particular one…She chewed her lips.::
“We can try it~It might work. How’d you guys finish the one a few months ago? We may have to consider that too…This youkai is scarily strong it seems…”
“With the last one I was able to trap him with my sutras to keep him still long enough so that Inuyasha could release the windscar. Unfortunately we have no idea where Inuyasha is or if he would even be in the condition to raise Tessaiga,” the monk explained to her logically, putting his chin in his hands as he thought. “But a few spiritual arrows from you might be enough, but there’s no way to be certain. There are just too many unknown variables.”
It was frustrating, the predicament they were in and there was no way he was putting Kagome in harms way if he could help it. Unfortunately they might not have the luxury of choosing for themselves.
“We need to find Inuyasha first and foremost. Without him, even if he can’t fight, we could at least retreat and regroup. It’s too dangerous to go against that youkai head on and I’m not letting you get hurt.”
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: Naraku wasn’t the only youkai that was able to emit shouki…There were plenty of others…But it was true that she didn’t know of any whose shouki was as potently poisonous as Naraku’s was. Though he was right, this wasn’t Naraku.
Inspecting the monk’s arm she bit her lower lip while he spoke, She noticed him wincing, even if he didn’t make any noise of pain-and could tell it hurt something awful. She closed her eyes for a moment and placed her hand on the gash. She concentrated till her hand glowed a bit and a warming sensation pooled in his wound…Slowly the flesh began to knit back together…White magic~ Something she’d been studying in her off time~
Meantime, she nodded to his assessment of the creature.::
“That-or it just doesn’t think we’re worth the time…If it’s a youkai it can probably smell us after all…Either way-how do we sneak up on it? We don’t yet know what else it’s capable of…Or where it has Inuyasha…”
::She wished she knew her husband’s status…Clearly he wasn’t okay–but she needed to know how much not okay. A knot curled around in her stomach..He wasn’t dead, that much she some how knew…But – he could be really badly hurt-or–dying…She swallowed-getting a grip on herself and finished mending the houshi’s arm.::
“There…It’ll be tender for a little while…but it should be good. Got any ideas for sneaking in?”
Miroku watched in amazement as Kagome’s pure, white light flooded out of her small hands and shrouded his wounded arm. The skin began to heal it’s self at an exceptionally fast rate. “You’ve gotten really good at that Kagome-sama,” he complimented truthfully.
He remembered when she first told him that she was beginning to study white magic. Having some prior knowledge on the subject he warned her that it was difficult to master, but like always Kagome wasn’t one to accept defeat. Instead she flourished as she began training, starting off small with helping wilted plants to stand tall and proud, then to small cuts and now to wounds as big as as the one he had now. Proud was an understatement of how he felt towards his friend’s progress.
Once the miko retracted her hands from his arm he flexed it, moving it around to check and see how much movement he could put it through. It still hurt but it was small in comparison to the burning pain that consumed it minutes ago. Letting his arm fall to his side, his thick dark brows knit together as he thought. Crossing his arms over his chest, he stared at the ground.
“There was one nasty demon Inuyasha and I fought on one of our jobs a few months ago. It was impossible to get close enough to strike him. So what we did was he distracted the demon long enough so that I could go around a great a barrier around the demon and trapped him...” The gears in his mind were spinning faster.
“Kagome, what if create a barrier around this one. We can make it strong enough to not break under his attacks so that we won’t get hit by any more...whatever that was. Then by doing so we can get close enough to see where Inuyasha is and his condition. If he’s unable to continue fighting I can distract the demon while you get him out beyond the barrier.”
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: Inuyasha was very important…To her especially–but she couldn’t reach Inuyasha right now. She could reach Miroku though…And he was important too. He was her friend after all-and they didn’t know what had shot at them exactly-so what may be a not so bad injury maybe become something worse later…
She ignored the fact that she’d said something he didn’t understand, it wasn’t important at the moment. Normally she would have made a half assed attempt to explain-but they didn’t have the luxury or time at the moment to worry about frivolous word explanations~
Sitting back a bit as he sat up, she pushed her hair out of her face and bit her lip.::
“You’re right…We need a strategy…And while we figure out one-let me heal your arm~”
::Compromise~ That was what it was all about! She just hoped that her mate could hold out till they figured out a way to get to him–and defeat this youkai with the laser gun!::
Miroku tried to protest but seeing that she had made a good point, he sighed and let her tend to his arm. The gash was nasty, it was bleeding a decent amount, not enough to be life threatening but enough to were some dripped down his fingers and splatter onto the blade of grass below, staining their tips crimson.
He bit down on his teeth, clenching them together as she began inspecting the wound, not wanting any gasps of pain to escape. They had enough to worry about and he didn’t need her worrying too much over him. It may hurt but he would live. Inuyasha was the one who was in real danger, wherever he was.
“Whatever is out there, it knows we’re here but it’s not pursuing us. Maybe it thinks it killed us with whatever that was. The concentration of that attack was fueled with evil,” he frowned, not wanting to say what was on his mind. It almost felt like miasma, but Naraku was the only one known to produce it. Then again, it didn’t feel the same, and he was dead, trapped in the now broken jewel for eternity. Still, could another creature create a similar concoction?
“If we can’t fight him head on, can’t sneak up on him...we gotta trap him.”
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: Light footed the pair flew through the forest as quiet as mice; save for the soft clanging of the houshi’s shakujou rings while he ran. It wasn’t enough noise to really warn anyone of their coming–but it was enough to scatter a few fauna from their path as they drew closer to where the auras supposedly converged.
The miko stuck her nose through the foliage when they arrived-and tried to peer around herself, while the monk did the same…::
“Definitely…But-what-or who is the other aura…?”
::She mused-softly–before she felt another aura surge–and the monk called out her name-She had just enough time to look up before Miroku dive bombed her to the ground and ahuge beam cut through the trees just above them.::
“Holy,….! What was that—?! A laser?!”
::Was her exclamation, in the heat of the moment totally forgetting that no one in this era knew what the heck a laser even was…But it didn’t matter-she realized a moment after that the monk had been hit and possibly hurt by it-She shoved him off::
“Gods~It got you! Did it hurt?! Let me see it!”
Miroku clenched his jaw, his teeth grinding against each other. His uncursed hand clutched his left arm where the strange light had hit him. He could feel his arm throbbing with each pulse of his heart, blood seeping through between his fingers and rolling down his arm in rust colored streaks. When Kagome rushed over to look at it, he shook his head. It wasn’t a terrible injury, he would be fine. Inuyasha was more important than his arm.
He hadn’t understood her weird language but deemed that it was most likely from her time. This was a common occurrence and under normal circumstances he would ask her what she meant but there was no time.
“I’m fine,” he managed to get out, sitting up and narrowing his eyes at where the beam had come from, but sensed no more charged youki energy. Was it possible that the demon was unable to attack again so quickly? Or was it because it assumed that one blast was all that was needed to kill them?
“Whatever that thing is, it’s strong...we’re not going to be able to fight it head on.”
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: The miko nodded in agreement. Reconnaissance was probably the most sound way to go about this first off. Worried about the hanyou as they were-they’d be no good to him if they got caught too! She gripped her bow and removed an arrow from her quiver to nock it, just in case–as she looked sideways at the houshi.::
“Ready then?”
::She asked, before she looked back in the direction she’d pointed at. They had to be ready-who knew what lay beyond that treeline…She couldn’t tell how far the youkai was–or where exactly it was…but she had a guess it was there–with her mate. She steeled herself for gathering intel.::
“Let’s go!”
The moment the words left her mouth they were hurriedly racing towards the tree lines where they sensed the two auras, his staff jangling quietly in hand with each step, causing the golden rings on the top to clank together. His sandals slapped against the soles of his feet, dust from the worn dirt path of travelers before being stirred up in their wake.
As they neared their destination, the strong aura of Inuyasha was now easily identified. “That’s definitely Inuyasha,” he whispered to his partner, both of them slowing as they came nearer until the stopped behind a thicket of trees that were dense enough to keep them covered and out of view from prying eyes.
Stepping in a little ahead of the miko, he peered through the leaves, trying to get a look at the situation at hand but before he could see what was going on he felt a huge surge of power heading their way. “Kagome-sama!” The monk yelled in warning and tackled the woman to the ground to protect her, the beam of whatever evil it was catching his arm in a graze as it struck where they had just been standing only moments ago. A grunt of pain escaped from him as his tattered sleeve hung limp and burned, and despite it only having just barely hit him it was painful. Whatever was out there was not messing around.
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: It was a bit of reassurance-that was true…But it also posed a bit more of a worry on the other hand too…because if something had happened-then it was something that could overpower his hanyou nature-and that wasn’t a good thing for any of them! She chewed her lip and looked sideways at her houshi companion.::
“Keep well ready and alert though~We may be running into a lot of trouble for everyone if we find him and he is in trouble…”
::She exclaimed softly, not quite going into the thought process behind that statement-but she was sure she didn’t need to. Though she nodded adamantly as the houshi told her that they’d find him and bring him back home. She was not going to quit this hunt-or go home till she found him! That was for sure.
She scanned the area with her aura sense as well-hoping to pick up anything that might give them some clue of her husband…She closed her eyes for a moment to concentrate–because at first sweep-it didn’t seem like there was anything there…But upon closer inspection…::
“There’s a slight hint of dual youki–in that direction…I-think-Inuyasha’s is part of it…But I’m not positive. It’s been diluted a lot since it was there.”
::Her hand lifted to point in the direction she thought she could sense it coming from…It wasn’t much to go off of…but it was something! A start anyway.::
“Then let’s go but stay alert. If Inuyasha is having trouble with another youki we can’t run straight into the same danger he’s possibly in. We have to take a more cautious approach and see what we’re up against. Once we have more information then we can develop a strategy,” Miroku staring off into the distance as he followed the invisible line that her finger pointed to. Now that she mentioned it, he was able to sense a faint youki presence as well, the two almost muddled together and making it difficult to differenciate.
As much as they both wanted to run towards where they thought to be where Inuyasha was, the settled for a quick pace, not wanting to be caught by surprise by any nasty demons. Cautiously, he slipped his hand into the insides of his purple robes, grabbing the slips of paper that he always kept stocked in case of an emergency such as now.
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: She inclined her head in a silent thanks for him generally trusting what her gut told her…Though if she was being honest-she really hoped her gut was wrong in this case. Though at the very least her gut told her that he was alive still..that was some comfort. Though truthfully not a lot-because it was just a gut feeling.
She knew how fidgety he was while she was away too…If the many, many times he’d come to check on her-or get her wasn’t enough to tell-she also had the stories of her friends to let her know how he didn’t like to be away from her for too long. It was sweet, and touching in a way…
The miko glanced up at the houshi as he tried once again to reassure her-and likely himself, teat the hanyou was probably alright. She smiled some-because he was right. He was stronger then almost all the creatures they’d ever encountered. It was like the human and youkai blood combined made him a super hero. Even on his human nights..::
“I-don’t think so…He wouldn’t have gone out at all if it was his human night, would he have? At least–not without back up himself…”
::It was kind of difficult keeping track of the exact days in this era~She had to admit. One of the small flaws of living here~::
Miroku shook his head in agreement with her, thinking back to the recent night skies. “No, he probably would not have gone out knowing him. I think the new moon is next week so that’s reassuring,” he relaxed, remembering seeing the thick crescent of the moon last night when he and Sango had taken time to sit outside and relax after the kids had been put to bed.
“There, well that’s a bit reassuring at least,” he cracked a small smile for her sake as they trudged down the worn path. He kept his senses open, being aware of his surroundings to try and sense anything that was off in the air. Unfortunately everything appeared normal to him. Had the hanyou really ventured off further than normal.
“Don’t worry, we’ll find him and drag his ass back home,” he promised, though the setting sun wasn’t helpful. He just hoped they wouldn’t encounter anyone or anything before they reached Inuyasha. Night time was prime time for demons and monstrous humans alike to go out on the prowl and he wanted to avoid any extra fighting if possible. “Just stay close. Inuyasha will kill me if he finds you with even a scratch on you.”
He just… slid…
Like the dirt was slippery…
In those… sandals…
Miroku sliding into the dms
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: She nodded in agreement. She could very easily see Sango flipping the heck out that Miroku had left their kids alone…Even though they’d be sleeping. And an angry Sango was a terrifying Sango! So-she waited for the few minutes it took for the houshi to bring the taijiya back to their hut, and silently fidgeted.
When the monk returned with Sango in tow, she nodded at her friend-and just assumed that he had explained what was going on…She gave the taijiya a small smile-and then nodded at the monk again as he announced they should go–and she hurried to follow him.::
“Maybe…I hope that’s all it is…But I don’t know…I’ve got this…bad feeling…you know?”
::She was grateful for his attempt to keep her spirits up as they moved away from the village in the direction that the hanyou had gone, but she couldn’t shake the thought that something was very wrong~::
“Well, your bad feelings aren’t something to be taken lightly,” Miroku agreed with her, knowing full well how many times her gut instincts had aided them in the past.
As much as he wanted to believe his own words about the hanyou stubbornly staying out to fight he couldn’t truly bring himself to believe them. He knew Inuyasha well, and he especially knew how much he hated being away from his miko for very long. It always made him anxious and fidgety whenever Kagome went off with Sango or Kaede to help them and even now he didn’t take up as many jobs with him as he used to when Kagome was trapped in her time.
“Just think Kagome-sama, Inuyasha has been held up in plenty of sticky situations. There’s not many demons or humans alike that could even come close to beating him in a fight as long as it isn’t his human night.” A pause. “It’s not his human night right?”
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: It was difficult not to fret…She knew that the hanyou could be hard headed, stupidly impulsive, and driven…but this was the first time he’d ever been hours late coming home. But-this was also part of the reason she’d come for help. Someone to keep her head level while she searched for him.
She took a slow, deep breath held in for a few moments-and then exhaled it-equally slowly-and nodded at the houshi with what she hoped was newfound poise.::
“M-maybe we ought to tell Sango-chan before we go anyway. Who knows if one of your munchkins will wake up before she comes home…”
::Despite her worry over the hanyou, thoughts of her friends invaded her head first anyway. Other people always seemed to come before herself and her worries, no matter what. That was just her way…But she looked at the houshi as he asked about sensing the hanyou, and she closed her eyes for a few moments-letting her senses unfurl and seek his aura…But it seemed out of range…::
“I can’t sense him from here–but I know he headed off that way when he left.”
“You are probably right. Sango’ll kill me if I left the kids alone for more than a few minutes,” he sighed, not wanting to risk awakening the wrath of his wife. As sweet as she was her temper was still something to be feared. “Stay here, I’ll be back!”
After a few minutes, Miroku returned with his wife in tow, both hurrying so that the search for Inuyasha could begin. After planting a chaste kiss on his wife’s lips he hurried over to the fretting Kagome, nodding to her. “Let’s go.”
Together the two of them began walking away from the village towards the direction that the miko had seen her husband go off in. “For all we know he got distracted fighting some demon and lost track of time,” he tried to cheer her up by keeping the mood light.
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: The little green miko fidgeted wildly when he came to the door frame-The fact that the hanyou wasn’t there was- the reason she was here. She looked up at the houshi imploringly.::
“It’s been hours–he hasn’t come home yet. Something had to have happened…and I’m worried…Would you come with me to go look for him? I’d go on my own–but he’d probably get all belligerent if I did go all on my own and he’s really okay…And if he’s not I’ll need help to get him home–So either way I need back up!”
::She explained, quickly. Though she probably didn’t have to explain…Miroku knew how the hanyou’s thought process worked as well as she did–but she was nervous-so she babbled out her reasoning.::
“All right, no need to fret, Kagome-sama,” the monk assured his friend in a calm voice, stepping out of the hut and releasing the mat, letting it close with a flutter. “Sango will be home any minute so the children should be okay. They are asleep and should stay that way. Hopefully...” he muttered under his breath and grabbed his staff and made sure he had some of his offudas.
“Don’t worry, we’ll find him whether he’s in trouble or not,” he assured her, knowing that she needed him to stay calm and positive in order for her to not freak out.
“Now I need you to tell me, can you sense his youki at all now or do you know the direction he went off in?” he asked her so they could know where to start.
ka-go-me :
「巫女」:: The miko nodded with a slight smile.::
“Will do~”
::she waved at him and turned to her stew…
Though the tables were turned a couple hours later-when she rushed up to the houshi and taijiya’s hut and banged on the entryway~and called out in a somewhat distressed voice::
“Miroku-sama~! Sango-chan! Either one! Or both!”
“Huh?” Miroku’s head jerked in the direction of the door, his thick brow furrowing as he recognized the miko’s voice. The children were done for bed, since they were little they went to bed pretty early still and Sango had left a little while ago to help one of her friend’s in the village with something. He hadn’t bothered to ask, knowing she would tell him when she came home.
Standing up, his feet brought him to the door, pushing aside the reed mat. “Kagome-sama? What are you doing here?” he asked her in confusion, considering he had seen her just hours before. He looked behind her and was surprised to see that a certain red clad hanyou was no where to be found and her far held concern.
“Is something wrong?”
