LI’L ABNER

Tickets are now on sale for our end of year musical Li’l Abner!! The Miskin theatre presents the comedy musical Li’l Abner, based on the comic strip characters created by Al Capp.

Sadie Hawkins Day, a race in which the women try to catch the man they want to marry is approaching fast, Daisy Mae hopes to catch Li'l Abner. However there is a turn of events when residents of Dogpatch, are notified by the government that they must evacuate because they have been voted the most unnecessary town in the USA.

Will Dogpatch ever be saved? Will Abner and Daisy Mae finally wed? Will everyone live happy ever after?

In this high energy, all singing, all dancing musical; come and join Li’l Abner, Daisy Mae, Hairless Joe, Moonbeam McSwine, Marryin’ Sam and the rest of these wild, funny and exhilarating characters on an epic journey to save Dogpatch.

Possibility of professional placement during August

This is not a college organised placement. The opportunity is to work on the Frinton-on-Sea Summer rep theatre season as design assistant. The skills needed will be scenic painting, general construction, propping, prop making etc. Frinton-on-Sea is in Essex so travel is necessary. Unfortunately there is no fee or transport costs available so this is voluntary work, but looks good in a portfolio/CV as professional work.

There are two weeklong slots available. 11th – 16th August working on “Hayfever” and 18th – 23rd August working on “I love you, you’re Perfect, now Change”. Likely hours are 10-6 most days with get-in, tech and opening being 10-10 (approx). As this is voluntary you are not tied to hours, but if you are successful you MUST be available throughout the process and attend all days. This is a fast paced, exciting environment and as such you should be prepared for anything. There is no actual workshop so whatever the weather you will be working outside!

In the first instance you need to email me at [email protected]. I will then pass your details and application to Rob Miles, the designer of the pieces.

You must write a letter of application introducing yourself, your skills, your experience, what you could give to the vacancy and what you hope to get out of it; also which week you are applying for and/or whether you may be interested in both weeks. Think about why you should be chosen. I will not be making any decision on this. The designer will make the final decision.
