Losing Your Memory [closed rp with misogynistic-ladykiller]
A quiet day slowly passed by. No work, no school. Nanako sat in her room, reading a book. It was a dumb, cheap romance novel - something Nanako had guiltily gotten into over the years.
Nothing was supposed to happen. Nothing was supposed to change.
But there was a loud knock on the door downstairs. Dad shouldn’t be home this early, and it wasn’t like she had many friends who would want to come visit her.
So… Who was it?
She placed a bookmark in the novel and placed it aside before making her way downstairs to the door. She opened it just enough to see who was outside.
"Hello?"
And then she saw his face. What was he doing here? He shouldn’t be here. Why was he here? Big Bro said he was long gone, that he’d never, ever come back to Inaba. But he was here. He was going to hurt her or throw her in the TV or-
But something about him seemed off. It gave the terrified girl reason to hesitate.
"Is… everything okay?"
The man hesitated a moment, seeing a young girl at the door and how she seemed.. Terrified. Of him.
Why was she scared of him..?
Adachi blinked, then offered her a slight smile. "I'm not sure.. I don't.. I don't remember much, you see." The man looked past the girl, inside her house, and he rose an eyebrow. Seeing these things felt familiar to him, but there was another feeling that accompanied it-- an odd hatred. But he didn't understand it.
"But I remember this place. Inaba. I remember this house.." he trailed off, frown tugging at his lips. From what he had gathered from walking around the small town, he felt that people didn't like him. That people were wary of him. But he couldn't care less what they thought. Even though the ex-detective had amnesia, he still felt the same sort of misanthropy toward others.
But for some reason, this young girl was different to him. Why was that?
"I don't remember why I'm here. Why I'm back." Yes, he remembered Inaba. Vaguely. "I was just walking around and I found myself at your door.."
He sighed, scratching at the nape as his neck. "I don't suppose you know me..?"
"Pathetic."
"And just why do you see me as pathetic, exactly? Because I’m different from you? Just who do you think you are, anyways?"
Tohru glared at him as Adachi continued to talk about the two of them. As much as he hated to admit it, there were a lot of things that he said that he could relate to. Then there was the fact that they had the same name and looked alike…
For now, all he could do was accept that they were the same person, somehow.
"I’m not sure what I want at the moment, to be honest. There’s more important things to worry about."
Such as trying to stop a killer, for instance.
Adachi couldn't stop a chuckle from leaving his lips. The fact that this younger version of him was glaring-- That was such a joke. It seemed the kid already hated himself.
"Oh yeah? What's so much more important than getting good grades? Than getting praise?" he shook his head. "None of that stuff matters, you know. You're going to work hard, but you're going to get nowhere. You'll end up at some shitty job you hate, and you'll live.. All alone."
The man frowned as he said this, and he.. looked lonely.
But only for a moment.
{Shiver}
"Maybe they shouldn’t have him on cases like this… He’s not really compassionate." she hugged her arms closer to her chest. "Well, I’ve lived here all my life too but he should know better than to yell at a girl that’s still traumatized about what she saw." maybe Saki was being a bit dramatic, but it wasn’t entirely an exaggeration. She decided to spare him the details about her recent nightmares; even if he didn’t seem to be like Dojima, she wasn’t sure he was going to give her sympathy. He was just doing his job.
"No… I didn’t see the killer, but, isn’t that what usually happens when weird things like this pop up?" This was mainly a thought that occurred to her from all those slasher films she had seen. The killer always went after everyone who knew something, even if they didn’t see who did it. "But… Maybe that only really does happen in movies." she twiddled with her thumbs nervously.
"It’s okay, Adachi-san. I’ve just been kinda nervous lately. I feel like I have to constantly look over my shoulder…" as she said this she looked around. Although she had seen familiar faces around them she could swear that maybe one of them had a malicious intent against her.
Feeling his hand on her shoulder had startled her since she had been thinking about other things. “Sorry…” she apologized. She was supposed to feel safe, because at least if anything were to happen right now he would be there to protect her. Why did she still feel so uneasy?
"Thanks, Adachi-san. I trust you… and Dojima-san too. I just think you’re easier to talk to." she managed a small smile. Saki was surprised when Adachi pulled out his cellphone, but his offer made her feel a bit more at ease. She nodded, "Definitely." she reached into her bag pulling out her cellphone.
Flipping her phone open she typed out “足立-さん”. “Okay, I’m ready.”
The detective couldn't help but laugh. "Maybe you should go tell the station yourself! It's not like they'd listen to me.." And they wouldn't. Not that he'd bother bringing something like that up at the station, anyway. Like he gave a shit about what this girl felt about Dojima. Though, he didn't care much for Dojima either.
A shrug. "Yeah.. That kind of thing only happens in movies, you know, but.." he sighed, sounding defeated. "But another thing that happens too often in movies and not in real life-- how the good guys always win. But that's not the case here, is it..?" he wanted to laugh, because he was talking about this game. This entire game he created for himself, a game that he would sit back and watch, since that fool Namatame would be acting on his own from now on, he was sure.
Hearing that she trusted him brought a false smile to the man's lips, though it would look genuine to most. Trust. She trusted him. Wasn't a very good judge of character, was she? Well, she was a high school girl, after all.
Quickly, he recited his number to her, eyes watching her fingers as they danced across the cell phone. Ah, it felt nice. It felt nice that she trusted him, that.. That she'd keep in contact with him.
He had control.
"Just.. Call me whenever you don't feel safe, no matter the time!" he offered. Though if the bitch called around three in the morning or so, he wouldn't be very happy.
"Or you can text. You know. Whatever you feel most comfortable with."
“Nothing’s real.” [ayy your character seems interesting so just dropping a thing in here hope that's all right eheh]
"I know. I’ve known. It’s why things don’t hurt as much as they ought to, if this was real.”
She holds out her hand with disinterest, staring at the broken pointer finger, the angles it shouldn’t be at.
"Nothing really hurts, anymore, you know?"
"I think you know." Fog rises around her, thick and choking. There’s perhaps a hint of concern in her voice. "They find human concerns trivial. Trivial and amusing." The girl coughs once — twice — and goes back to eerie quiet.
She takes a step towards Adachi again, and her eyes are so blue, like nothing real could ever be. ”I won’t hurt you. Whatever you do is your choice, and I won’t blame you. After all, nothing is real here, right?”
The atmosphere is getting crueler. Harsher. Thicker.
The man cocked his head.
"Are you talking about the shadows?" he asked, suddenly feeling goosebumps. The way this young girl spoke was a bit unnerving-- Maybe she was just fucked up at a much younger age than he had been?
How awful.
"Whatever I do? What are you talking about?" he narrowed his eyes, starting to feel a bit irritated by everything. Waking up would be fantastic any time now. He didn't want to listen to this dream talk shit.
And it didn't feel right.
He’s right; it’s pathetic. You’re pathetic! Stop freaking out!
The chiding voice of reason had a wonderful point, and for once Yosuke actually managed to follow the good advice—at least to a degree. It wasn’t as though he could just stop himself from being scared, but he could at least stop cowering in a corner and actually be of use.
Deep breaths…deep breaths…
After taking a few moments to collect himself, Yosuke let his hands fall to his sides and took inventory of their situation. Adachi was full blown freaking out to his side, which oddly helped Yosuke to think rationally. If they both just sat around blindly panicking they would end up killing each other before they could die of suffocation.
"On top of me?! You’re bigger than I am and a you’re a cop! You’re supposed to give me the boost up!" Honestly, what sort of adult used a teenager to get out of danger first?
Adachi jumped a bit, surprised by the teenager's outburst. Shit, he supposed the teenager was right.. But..!
"W-well It's more dangerous outside the elevator, don't you think? So I should be the one taking the risk!" he managed to sound annoyed-- which he was. Of course the detective was more concerned about himself than this brat, but he wouldn't just flatly state it.
A frown. "But, if you insist, Hanamura.." really, he supposed the less work for him, the better. Honestly the man just didn't like the idea of Hanamura climbing on top of him but this.. This was a desperate situation.
Huffing, the man stood under the hatch, then promptly knelt down. "H-hurry up..!" he hoped he would be able to hold the teen's weight-- Adachi wasn't exactly built for this kind of thing.
Cats [the-siscon-homo]
"Huh. Maybe you don’t really like them, but they sure enjoy your company for whatever reason. Cats don’t usually follow around people they dislike." Perhaps it was the fact that the detective always seemed rather lonely or out of place whenever Yu saw him around town. It was kind of sad, if you thought about it. No one deserved to be alone, after all. Maybe the animals were trying to give Adachi some sort of company, no matter how welcomed they were. ”I do have a particular fondness for them, it’s true. I can’t help wanting to take care of them and make sure they have food and water. Uncle says he doesn’t mind as long as they don’t get into the house.” Glancing up, he took a chunk and divided it into smaller pieces so it would be easier on the cat. Not that they should really be eating something so tough, but he supposed it was better than nothing. ”You can’t hate them too much, or you wouldn’t bother sharing your meal, I’m sure.”
Raising a thin eyebrow, the man just shook his head. "A lot of people seem to hold fondness for them.. Not sure why.." he sounded like he didn't really care, but..
A shrug, a look to the side. "I guess you could say that. I can't let them starve." The man finished off his skewer, tossing the stick into the nearby trashcan. "But, since you're taking care of them now, I guess they don't really need me anymore, huh?" he frowned.
The cats didn't need him anymore, huh..
Tch, no. That's not what was bothering him. This wasn't about these damn animals needing him. This was about something else.
Something else entirely.
He hated Narukami.
"Hello, Hanamura-san. Still crying over that Konishi girl?" he smirks.
For a full five seconds words seemed to completely fail Yosuke, his expression going from stunned, to hurt, to angry in seconds flat. ”Don’t…don’t even say her name! You don’t deserve to say it!”
It was funny, really. Yosuke had always held the mentality that when things were desperate he would just keep fighting until the end. Wasn’t it human nature to try and survive? To struggle against all hope, no matter what? If he had to die in that other world then he might have well at least gone down swinging. And yet there he was, weakened and shaking, all alone and without the strength to pull himself back to his feet.
Regret flooded through him, sudden and terrible, and Yosuke finally understood the ramifications of his actions. His bravado was gone, replaced by the fear of death and the unknown, and if the boy had had any strength left in his body it wouldn’t have mattered, not when he felt frozen to the spot. Was he really going to die?
The brunet’s breathing quickened as Adachi approached and he tried to steel himself for what was sure to come. Even if he managed to pick up one of his kunai it wouldn’t help him, not when a gun fired far much faster than the teen could think. It was horrifying to think that he might have mere seconds left to live, but at least it would be quick. Not that that was very comforting.
"D-Don’t touch me…"
There was still a chance—albeit a minute one—to escape. Adachi was close to him now, on the same level, and if Yosuke could just gather up his remaining strength he could wound the other in return. If he was fast enough he could even kill the detective, although that wasn’t what he had initially wanted. Now that things were so desperate, it didn’t seem to matter. Maybe they would both die, but Yosuke would have at least accomplished something.
But then Adachi was already moving, and Yosuke’s window of opportunity closed. A small, surprised noise slipped free as the other flicked him in the forehead, but other than that he hardly reacted. He…had failed? It was really over. Adachi was right, as terrible as that was; no one was coming for him. Yu wouldn’t realize his best friend was gone until it was far too late.
No…!
The man was taunting him, trying to upset him and it was working. Yosuke didn’t want to die, he didn’t want to be so useless, and he hated himself for being such an idiot. He could feel tears threatening, but there was still some life left in him. He needed to force himself to act, to try once more before he let himself go. Death was too horrifying of a concept for Yosuke to just accept after all. Gathering his energy, Yosuke grabbed one of his knives and forced himself shakily to his feet.
"I can’t die here…"
A sinister grin crawled it's way onto the detective's lips-- he'd be lying if he said he wasn't enjoying every second of this. It was like he was feeding off the boy's despair. Adachi's felt as if his words were daggers, and he kept twisting the knife deeper and deeper, wishing to inflict more harm upon the boy's now fragile mind.
His hands twitched at his sides as he took slow, even steps back. Away from Yosuke. As he stepped away, new shadows began to form, and they made their way toward the injured teenager.
His lips curled, amused by the fact that Yosuke was still trying to fight. Still trying to get up. "What are you doing?" he taunted, laughing. "You can't win! You're going to die.. You're going to die."
As the detective spoke, a plethora of beasts emerged from the shadows, soon surrounding Hanamura, blocking off any chance of the young man's escape.
Instead of doing the deed himself, Adachi decided.. Yosuke should learn the hard way. Learn that.. That it was his own fault he was going to die. That he was too weak against the shadows, too weak to defend himself against the threat.
"You're outnumbered. Overpowered.." the man spoke in a still tone, though it was still very loud. Easy to hear.
"You don't want to die here, but you will.. You should've just accepted the fate of becoming a shadow..." he stared at the boy, gaze uncaring, as if he were looking at an old newspaper laying in the driveway. Hardly even worth looking at.
"But.. At least now you'll be with your senpai, right? Konishi?" the man let out a sound, a laugh that practically screamed he was no longer sane.
But it calmed down, expression turning oddly.. Calm.
"Tell her 'hi' for me, won't you?"

"Do you really expect me to believe that? I know who I am, and I’m not something like this. And just why do you think you’re so better anyways?"
Tohru wasn’t buying it, not one bit.
The man laughed.
"Well, seems like things are different for you, then, huh? How's school going, then? Making sure you get good grades right? So you can do whatever you want?" he waved a hand at the younger man.
"I'm better because I really know who I am. I'm better because I finally have control over everyone else."
He flickered his eyes at the teenager.
"We look exactly alike! You're Tohru Adachi, I'm Tohru Adachi. Want to be a police officer." He paused. "You still want to be an officer, right? Just to carry a gun?" he laughed.
"Pathetic."
"And just why do you see me as pathetic, exactly? Because I’m different from you? Just who do you think you are, anyways?"
"What? Just take a good look at yourself."
The man smiled a bit too wide, teeth bared in a bit of a sinister manner.
"Tch, come on, I know you're not that dumb. I'm you of course. Though, by the look of things, I must say I'm the better version."

"Nothing really hurts, anymore, you know?"
"Not me." She doesn’t smile. "I don’t hurt people. They do.”
Her hands relax to her sides, but there is a heavy pressure in the air; something like fear, something that drags you down.
"I’m a pacifist, really, I am. What can you do to me, anyways?"
Her voice sounds a little — strange. It’s like there’s a second, whispering echo.
The man rose an eyebrow.
"They? Who's 'they'..?" he frowned, feeling a bit unnerved by the child. This was one trippy dream, he decided.
The pressure, the atmosphere around them, Adachi wasn't oblivious to it. It felt a lot like the fog from the world inside the television.
"A pacifist, huh..?" Well, she certainly seemed boring. But at the same time, there was something.. Off about her. Something Adachi didn't like. So he frowned.

Cats [the-siscon-homo]
Rolling his shoulders with a sigh of relief, Yu bid Daidara farewell for the day and exited the shop. The load he’d been carrying this time had been far too heavy. Offhandedly, he made a mental note not to put off selling materials ever again. Slate-coloured orbs searched the sparsely inhabited street and took note of a rather … odd sight. Squinting as though his eyes were playing tricks on him, the Fool found that, yes, that was indeed Adachi, and yes, he was feeding a cat. With a couple more felines crowding the general area. There were few things in life that caused Yu to lose his calm, cool, and collected restraint, and cats just happened to be one of those things. So before he’d even given it any thought, he’d already made the short trek to the other’s location and knelt to scratch behind the ears of one insanely adorable kitten. ”I didn’t know you liked cats, Adachi-san.”
As if on queue, Adachi heard the familiar voice of none other than Narukami. How wonderful. Was the brat intent on ruining this small moment he was having with this dumb cat?
Glancing over at the kid, Adachi shrugged. "It's not like I particularly care for them. They've just been following me around lately.." he sighed, sounding annoyed.
"Seems like you have a liking to them." He laughed a bit. "Dojima-san always complains that the house seems to be surrounded by them ever since you've moved in."
Absent-mindedly, the detective scratched the one he had fed behind the ear. "Guess I've been hanging around here too much, since they recognize me.." he offered a bit of his skewer to Narukami. "Maybe that one's hungry, too."
