The best laid plans...
sketches
This post is about a month late. That fact is a pretty good illustration of how busy my summer is. Sailing, moving into a new apartment (the lovely lady in my pictures in my new roommie), seeing a new boy, who seems to be sticking around, and more sailing have pushed blogging to the back burner. I'll be back soon... sometime. Promise.
West Wing and a book about baking/ being a goddess... oh the things our belongings say about us.
Still MIA from the blogging world. In the past two weeks I decided to move, found a new apartment and by this evening will be moved out of my old one. The only two hitches in this plan are that I'm "homeless" for a week between apartments and my camera is in the storage unit. I'm a SMRT blogger, genius really.
Day & Night
Day & Night
Sailing keeps me from blogging. I don't form sentences very well when I climb off a boat at 4AM and roll into work at 8AM.
Thank goodness for friends who take pictures or I'd be totally MIA from the blogging world.
Sunburns and face viels
Most of last week I spent in a swim suit and a face veil. Because of course if you are going to expose 90% of your body the part you want to cover is your face. It was for an event through the sailing club. Our team was Arabian themed. I've become quite proficent at rolling turbans. We won best costumes and drank champagne out of our trophy.
And here's a fact: I know how to belly dance but this picture is the closest I'll ever get to posting photos of myself doing so.
One final fact: face veils don't prevent sunburn.
Seasonal Depression
I think my poor little blog has caught a bug. I'm afraid it has been suffering from seasonal blog depression. I'm not sad, quite the opposite. But my poor little blog has been a little neglected. I'll break seasonal blog depression down for you:
Seasonal: -adj- pertaining to, dependent on, or accompanying the seasons (in this case summer)
Blog: -noun- an online chronicle of a persons thoughts, photos ect. (that would be this site)
Depression:-noun- the state of being lower in amount or value ( blog posts and photos being the item that is lower in amount)
In summary, it is summer so this blog has fewer posts. I've only taken one set of outfit photos in the past two weeks but Ms. Alexandra of Mode Moods asked me to guest post for her weeks ago and my Guest Post went up yesterday so until I get my blogging act together hop on over to her site and check it out.
Bamboo Pillowcases
Dress: Tinc, an small San Francisco Designer
Cardigan: Banana Republic
Sandals: via DWS
This dress is made from bamboo. It is probably the most comfortable fabric I've ever worn. Someday I will buy sheets made from bamboo. Someday when I'm wealthy. Come to think of it this dress looks a bit like a pillowcase. But until the day I can afford more than a single bamboo pillowcase my crisp oxford sheets will do just find. (Self promotion, what?!)
Girl Date
Dress: Marshall's
Cardigan: Banana Republic
Shoes: Steve Madden
Necklace: Loft
Belt: vintage
Bag: Longchamp
Way back when I wanted to start a blog I was googling possible names to see if they were taken and I stumbled upon Claire's blog, Between Laundry Days. Great minds think a like I guess.
I had such a great hopes for a post about our blogger girl date. But I seem to have lost my brain somewhere between Sunday's brunch and now. So until I find it I will leave you with this photo of the adorable and equally affable Claire, and a delish bloody mary from my favorite brunch place where Claire and I met.
Blankie
Jacket: American Eagle
Tank: Gap
Skirt: American Apparel
Necklace: Loft
Flying in style. Comfort comes first but you never know who you might meet on a plane. I'm an optimistic traveler in that sense. The prospect of sitting next to a cute boy or a potential future employer is always there. Juxtapose this with my propensity to freeze on planes, the fact that my preferred flying position is with my feet tucked under me and it makes for some dressing dilemmas. Look cute, be warm, be comfortable and don't flash your fellow travelers. Enter the maxi skirt. It is perfect, I don't know why I've not worn it to fly in before. Fashionable, warm, coochie covering and it even sort of looks like those airline blankets you get when you don't dress properly and need add warmth and modesty. My own little wearable blankie.

Where the gray wall? Where is the less than ideal lighting?! We've left the porch people. *happy dance*
I've a new, though probably temporary, photographer. My best friend from college moved in with me this week. She is playing her rent in groceries, laundry duties and photos. She's going to spoil me. We had pork chops and wine for dinner and all the dishes were done when I got home. We were joking that her spot on the couch is dependent on her photo taking skills for the day. So what do you all think? Does she get to say another day?

Broccoli Crumbs
Jacket: Gap circa 2001
Jeans: American Eagle
Shirt: Old Navy
Necklace: Loft
Heels: via DSW
Did you know that broccoli leaves behind just as much crumbs as crackers? I can be a little obsessive about things I like. Not people or tv shows just things, like new shoes and food. Mainly food, if I am are going to be honest. I'll get on a kick and eat the same thing everyday until I burn out on it. My current obsession is broccoli. I eat it the way normal people eat chips or crackers. I break the little stalks apart with my hands and dip them in anything. But I've been cleaning up a lot of little green flecks on my desk, my kitchen counter and my table. I'll have a dusting of green on my boob shelf. Admit it, I'm not the only one whose ladies catch her spills. Lady like aren't I? Who knew a veggie could be so messy?
My latest obsession that isn't food are these shoes, which sadly need a better photo. My co-workers call these clogs my big shoes. As on "Oh, you're tall today. You have your big shoes on." They make me a whopping 5'6". I'd wear them everyday if I could. It is nice to be able to stand at bank counters without standing on my toes, for example. Why are bank teller counters so high anyway? Short people need money too.
I might not have an outfit post for the day but I have way too many images of wedding dresses that I sketched over the weekend. I'm not sure I've ever drawn a wedding dress before but Hours of listening to my date practice the wedding march and Ave Maria got to me. (Finally posting something to my other little blog)
drawn2:
Sitting in a church for 2 hours watching a wedding rehearsal gives one a lot of time to sketch… I promise I’m not wedding crazed
(two gowns and a dress to elope in)
Laziness
Top: via Marshalls
Jeans: American Eagle
Shoes: Target
Laziness lead to me not caring enough to change before a last minute dinner plans. Laziness lead to me forgetting to focus the camera before taking pictures. Laziness lead to me not bothering to fix the aperture setting. Laziness lead to me writing this four sentence post.
Please excuse the fact that disqus, blog lovin' ect. will probably be broken while I attempt to re-do the look of the blog.
Population: 415, Curves Ahead
Dress: J. Crew
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Forever 21
The pick up trucks as a back drop are intentional.
This weekend I went to a wedding "up north" as people say here in Wisconsin. I said "up state" and was kind of laughed at. I think the fact that I didn't even get the geographic terminology correct is a good indicator of the little bit of a culture shock that the weekend was. I never though of myself as a city girl until I moved to Madison, the smallest city I've ever lived in. For most of Madison's residents, it is the biggest city they've ever lived in. I've gotten used to Madison's size and rather like it but that didn't prepare me for a wedding in a town of 415 people. I'm pretty sure I experienced a moment of claustrophobia when I read the population sign. But I will say that the fried chicken we had for dinner beat the well pressed J. Crew chinos off all of the floppy yet somehow dry chicken I've had at just about every other wedding I've been to and this dress agrees with its new grease stain.
I've worn this dress to 4 weddings and one rehearsal dinner now. I love it and have numerous photos in it and yet every time I see another picture I'm struck by exactly how much T&A I apparently have. I don't know a better way to say that other than "BAH! BIG BOOBIES" and then the big butts song starts playing in my head, which isn't exactly mature of me. This seems like a strange thing to say as someone who takes pictures of herself almost everyday. I really don't know how I'm not more aware of what I look like. But the honest truth is that although I know what clothing size I wear, I am still taken a back by certain pictures of myself. It's not necessarily always in a "Wow, I need to lose weight" kind of way, thought I'm not immune to those thoughts, just in a "Hmm, That's what I look like?" Does anyone else ever have that experience?
For this weekend though I say "Thank you," to my curves because I'm pretty sure my dress would have fallen off without them and almost did a few times anyway. Having a date who know hows to do dance and likes to spin you turns a reception into a real workout and is something I should have considered in picking out an outfit.
