I’M STILL FANCY: LETS’ TALK ABOUT MY HIATUS

It’s been a while since my last post... {That sounded way too much like a confessional}... Let me just let you know.. Miss Fancy Threads is a live and well! Rather than keep you in suspense I will tell you what I’ve been up to..I started A START UP! Yep after working solo dolo doing creative branding and consulting as Fancy Girl Creative NOW Creative House U.S. The moment I started Creative House US we begin amazing clients to work with {HUGE BLESSING}.

I’m still fancy. I’m  excited to get back to Miss Fancy Threads and talk about all the things we love to talk about here... mostly fashion {this is a fashion blog}. I have missed you guys!!

So bare with me people... The fancy is coming back..Bigger, Better, more Bombastic {I always wanted to use that word.} When you ask... 8.25.2015.

"Live Color Fully": Saying Goodbye in Technicolor

I'm on vacation in Panama City Beach, soaking up sun, enjoying family, and of course shopping! {I don't think I'd be a proper fashion darling if I didn't}. 

 I found myself thinking of a dear friend of mind who was so precious to so many, a colorful ray in the rainbow of life. We lost him suddenly earlier this month.... and our hearts broke at our loss, but rejoiced in the fact that he lived. He enjoyed life and looked at it with what some would say would be rose colored glasses...always seeing the bright side, but I feel like he did.. Is there any other way to live? Looking at life expecting the beauty (even in the seemingly bad), and touching  all those around you for the good. So when we all prepared to say goodbye to our dear friend who left us way to soon...I didn't pull out the trad LBD {little black Dress}. I Pulled out a Citron colored, sleeveless pouf dress, a black tuxedo blazer and a colorful paisley handkerchief with black background. I contemplated whether this was too loud and too colorful, but my friend lived his life colorful...and it has made all the difference for us all...

Welcome Back Overalls!

                                               Its that day! You  know, the one where all the pictures from the past surface to social media and photos that may have once before been absolutely embarrassing have somewhat of a cool factor. Yep its throw back Thursdayyy! Much like throw back thursday.. the same happens in fashion... Many of the looks from times past surface on to our runways and to streets.. soo let's take a look into the past to a trend some young fashion darlings the moment they thought would never come in their lifetime, others wishing the trend would die amongst all the other denim trends that didn't work, while for others its a second chance at getting the look right... This throw back Thursday Fashion edition  is dedicated to....yep..OVERALLS

{A well deserved welcome back Overalls!}

I mean for all of us 90's fashion feinz, if you were anything like me when you saw Drew Barrymore wearing her overall's accompanied with daisies in her hair, you rushed to your Gap, Something special, delia's to get your very own pair. If you can't tell.. I actually like the overall look more so than I did before.  I feel like I have a second chance at the look myself to give a new spin for my adult age. I like the idea of pairing a blazer with the overalls and some fancy fine wedges or a pump in a pop of color.

I feel you can still rock the overalls as as an adult, but I would steer clear of the more super tight, spandex ones.. for the world's sake..actually that's probably the overall trend to just leave alone altogether #notightoveralls.

I definitely think the one shoulder can be pulled off, but if you are a woman of a certain age, I would slightly steer clear of this look and leave it to the young.. if only to avoid looking like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for 2014. 

I think the creative bohemian can work two trends at one time, {as seen above} kimono + overall = win.  Sometime's several trends at a time just work or should I say werk.

I think you can never go wrong with a black shirt, denim, leather jacket {not in the summer}, black sunnies and killer shoes.. So when in doubt Keep It Simple and just add cool shoes and you have instant cool chic{k}.

I can't wait to see overall looks on the streets in my town.... {not too many}.

This is one throw back, I am glad to see revived.

Runway Bridal Party: Make your Bridal Party look amazing

What is that sound? It's the sound of wedding bells ringing in the season of non stop planning, bridal party fabulousness and the celebration of two people joint hands in wedded bliss. Just over a week ago those bells rang for my sister after her and her beloved of two years tied the knot. {Ahh Sweet Love}

This was my first time being in on the ground floor of planning a wedding..Typically unless its family or framily {friends that are family, I am not up for what can sometimes be a real task of patience and endurance. However, this being my little sister of course I was on board. The first thing to tackle after securing the groom, rings  and the venue is...  "What to wear?!?"

The bride wants her bridal party to look amazing! I mean thats a given, but as we found with us being bridesmaids we all are different, Some Curvalicious, some petite, some with bounty full blessings, some super fit, and some of a mix of  several of the previously mentioned. . No two women are a like.. that's the beauty of it all. You want to make sure that your bridesmaids look wonderful and are  comfortable and confident {because that shows in pictures} you have to choose bridesmaids dresses that work for the shape of your bridesmaids. 

If you haven't hired a stylist for your bridal party then here's a mini guide for DIY styling of your bridal part

1. Have your Bridesmaids send you measurements and  a head to toe photo of them, so you will know their shape. 

 2. Decide if you are going to go with individual dresses that fit each girl, or one that looks great on all. { The second may save you time and money}

3. The colors for your bridal party: You may have various beautiful skin tones represented in your wedding party. Certain colors aren't flattering on different skin tones and will reflect in your pictures. This should not stop you from picking a color that is your heart's desire, but it is for your consideration only.

4. Make sure you give your brides maids plenty of notice that you have chosen them to stand with you on your special day so that they are able to achieve any fitness goals they may have had in mind and cut down on the cost of alterations when the time comes for last minute fittings. 

5. When choosing your bridesmaids dresses if you have curvalicious babes:

***Choose silhouettes that flatters the curves, that outlines the shape with out being too revealing.****

What I Like Wednesday: Everything, but the Kitchen Sink

Wednesday  is dedicated to things I like, or have newly discovered I like. Normally I would do these in categories, but there are so many good things I like right now that I like that are not in the same category save for that their all AWESOME!  So in the spirit of doing away with categories I'm throwing in everything, but the kitchen sink. {only because I didn't see one that was new that I liked.}

1. The So Good App 

If you want to find  all the great places, shops, businesses,  and places to mingle mix and be, locally it's all here in a wonderfully designed visually appealing app. Recommendation: IMMEDIATE DOWNLOAD

2. Broods

Talk about love at first sound. I love the sound of these guys. Caleb Nott and Georgia Nott have created some of the coolest sounds. Perfect for rainy days, or just chill work days... Enjoy.

3. So Worth Loving Tour

I have followed So Worth Loving since their first vintage garments printed with the phrase "So Worth Loving" on the back. Their blog inspires and promotes loving yourself. An amazing blog, amazing merch, a mazing message and its going to be an amazing tour. Can't wait to see them when they roll in to my city at the end of the month.

4. Jem the Movie

Let's just say  I screamed a little when I saw that Jem the Movie is coming to life. I screamed double time when I saw that  we the audience the lovers of Jem can  get n on the movie making. I cannot wait to see the all the Jem style moments.. and the misfits too.

5. TopShop X Adidas Originals

After a tough week for Love with the break up of Goop and Chris Martin, it was nice to  know that love is real for some. So of course the Love  between TopShop and Adidas brought about something really wonderful that we can all  be moved by  love yet again. A must see collection.

6. Shop Artifacts

Ahhh.. Shop Artifacts! Of course this would be on my list  of what I like as this is one of my favorite online boutiques. One because it is my online boutique and  two because it has amazingly cool vintage and handmade goods that you'll love. The blog is kind of cool too.

Sunshine, Sun Rays, Better Days and L'Wren Scott

This week Fashion and well the world lost another incredibly talented, gorgeous, beauty.. L'Wren Scott. 

While most of us myself included have never met her.. So many.. {many} of us have embraced her work, loved designs and eagerly awaited what was next. However, after taking her own life… we will never see those beautiful creations again  or the wonderfully beautiful  L'Wren Scott. 

It puts life in to perspective when you look  from a far or up close wonderful people, with more talent, poise and the ability to captivate and audience and or a room with just their being…  {Alexander McQueen, Isabella Blow to name a tiny few}and yet they don’t recognize how much their rays lands on so many.. and they give up. 

As they champion everyday, smile and beauty in tow, talent on hand.. but yet sadness inside. I guess the inalienable fact  is those people are not just in the lime light of our world..but could be the very people near and dear to us…it could even be us.

Not to sound macabre, but this is the reality of our world, is that so many fail to see what they bring to this world. If only… If only we took every moment we could to be in a moment.. when we are talking with our family, friends, colleagues , even our baristas ..and just make sure we are not missing the moment to know that their presence in this world is needed. We may not be a able to save anyone, but what if, just what if your kind words… saved a life. What if your words… penetrated the walls of insecurity and feeling of worthiness and your ray of sunshine melted sadness…What if? 

My parents raised us with the idea.. to leave people better than we found them.. I have watched my parents give waiters or waitresses who start out seemingly as if they hate life and us.. the most attention and watch that same waitress/waiter turn in to the most engaging, joyful persons in the whole place. My family has taken that on.. being great doesn’t start with your talent.. being  beautiful doesn't start with your looks..It starts with how you treat that person who is standing next to you.. {we have to sometimes put down our gadgets to notice them}. 

And if the person who is struggling to feel like more.. or feels like you have nothing to live for is you…. email me at [email protected] and I will try to connect you with some great organizations as well as  let you know… that life can change in an instant.. your good, your joy happens at the corner of your next thought.. so think GOOD and know that your existence, your very presence is needed in this earth.. your ray of sunshine is needed..and wanted.

L'Wren Scott I didn’t know, but her work moved me and inspired me.. all the way here in little Columbia, SC…how wonderful is that.

A Snow~Tastic What I like Wednesday!

Okay, I'll be the first southern climate fashion girl to say I was excited about having a longer and more real winter weather. I would get to wear most of my fabulous coats that I hardly ever to get to where all of during a normal winter season..However, what I was not expecting was this SC state of emergency snow~Ice mashup that swept our state the last few days with a {Boom Boom- KAT} sort of rhythm...So today while being stuck inside or at least to the vicinity of home... I decided to dedicate this What I like Wednesday post to Today's Snow~Tastic Day of 2014. A guide of the cool things to watch, see, and do on a snow day like today and some you can definitely still do if its not snowing.

2014

We're off to the races in 2014...Making moves achieving.. exercising  off all the  things we so indulged in over the holidays.. we make lists of resolutions, and create vision boards...The year is wide open for extraordinary possibilities.. I am a list maker... I love a list, but when it comes to goals and visions I wanted to do something fun, sparkly to reflect and inspire this golden year I am excited about.  I decide to write the major dreams and visions I have down on little slips of paper and tie them with gold foil.. I got a mason jar and filled it with glitter..{one entire large container..well worth the glamour} and added all my slips of dreams and visions and goals...

It turned out to be an awesome piece of art  on my end table, but more than that every time I see it reminds me of the magic of thinking positive and that life is a beautiful and as golden as you believe it to be. Even life just so happens to gets a little grey.. you can be thankful..for the golden days you've had and the ones that will surely be ahead. 

I felt a little surge of excitement every time I placed a little slip of paper in the jar... The jar by no means automatically makes all your dreams goals and wishes come true {clearly}..but it's going to be cool to know that at the end of the year I will be able to look in that jar and see all the wonderful things I achieved and worked at..and if there's a few left... that's okay too..

So here's to a great golden year my friends..and the pursuit of dreams, visions and purpose.

We are well in to the start of New Year..and with it came a brisk wind being called the Polar Vortex…but for me  it is called the “A reason to wear fur!” That being said a post about all the amazing furs and Faux furs out there was absolutely necessary.

Living in Famously Hot South Carolina you may only get..maybe three really great days so you don’t want to go spend money on a really expensive fur or faux fur. Thankfully for me, my mom gave me her amazing Fur she had in the 70’s. I picked up a second one at a really great antique store in my home town. Right now is a great time to buy your fur-faux fur pieces because winter items are on sale. 

I feel like a great coat is like a curtain opening to an amazing stage production. Amazing coat… even more amazing clothes underneath… 

There are so many great fur inspirations, but these are a few of my favorites:

 I love  a low-key, high-octane fur look.

If it's not cold enough for a coat..I vote uber cool vest...

    Leather and fur... Perfect mix...

What's a couple of furs between good friends... 

If you are going to be buying a fur this season.. here are a few tips if you buy a used fur:

A few tips for buying a vintage fur…

*Look for  tears in the fur.

*Make sure you keep your fur in a cool climate, preferably in a cloth bag

*Furs have to be in a cool temperature, if you have the money to pay for fur storage.. do..if not see previous note. 

*If your fur starts shedding it is because the fur is dry and not in the right temperature. Shake fur lightly careful not to tear as it is at its most fragile state.

*Lastly make sure you wear you fur on as many cold fabulous days you can!!

This weekend I had the pleasure of being a spectator at the Spartan Beast race and cheering on a friend! Let me first  say, Congratulations to our friend Garrett for a job well done and to all the Spartan Beast participants. You all were amazing.  The willingness to not give up and not sink, whether it be mud, barbwire a sand bag hill, even fire..you just kept going. I was inspired...so today to movitate your Monday.. Refuse to sink people! Give it your all! If you slip..get right back up and show life who's boss. Persistence, courage, preseverence are some great life acessories to wear!!!
