as the (self-proclaimed) biggest fischer frey apologist in the world, here’s how i would handle his (potential) arc this season.

assuming that fischer isn’t once again a one-off character thrown in for no reason & given screen time only to be forgotten about in the very next chapter with no explanation whatsoever, i think now would be the best time to really push his relationship with mc & get some much needed character development in there.

fischer frey has … a lot of catching up up to do in terms of redemption. as far as fleshed out characters go — he’s just not there yet, no matter how many scenarios i like to create in my head. he’s the oldest twin, but other than the fact that he’s mean, we don’t really know a whole lot about him.

i really think this season would be a great opportunity to do a deep dive into his character. he was obviously trying to impress his peers with his troll story in the first chapter — understandable. he’s a fourteen year old boy, he wants people to think he’s cool (as most kids do). the twins are not popular. on the social totem pole, they struggle to keep a standing, if at all. they don’t get invited to things, cassandra has friends other than them — they don’t have friends. they have each other.

i truly believe that deep in his heart, fischer knows that colby could make friends - easily. i think that fischer struggles socially. his personality, he’s found, turns people away; so, fischer keeps colby on a short leash. colby isn’t allowed friends due to the simple fact that fischer doesn’t want to be alone. he knows he doesn’t have friends, but he does have a brother that he can pull down with him so that he doesn’t look like a complete loser. fischer realizes he doesn’t really need anyone, just as long as he’s one step ahead of colby.

that being said, no matter how bad you want to seem cool — nobody is going to risk their life to go into the forbidden forest to do it. why does it matter so much to him? that should be focused on, i think. mc has a habit of putting other people’s needs before their own, and fischer needs someone other than cassandra, (whom uses the twins as guard dogs more or less) and colby, (whom wants to do his own thing.) fischer needs someone that genuinely wants to be his friend. someone that is able to slowly wean him off of colby and make him realize that he’ll be okay without his brother.

making fischer a core character, whether it be in this season or a future one is so important to the twins’ storylines as a whole. i really hope that the game takes a similar route, because when the twins inevitably have a falling out, there needs to be a common ground between the two — someone that goes out of their way to bring them together again, and i don’t mean cassandra. in order to do that, mc has to make some sort of connection to fischer, as that bond with colby has already been formed.

in a perfect world, they’ll survive near death experiences together & next time fischer decides to impress his whole class with a story, it won’t be a lie.

✴︎ Astrology

Colby gives off the kind of vibe where he’s into understanding someone’s mindset. So I feel like when someone casually says in public, let’s say their friends or in astronomy class, “Oh, I’m a Pisces and you?”

I feel like Colby would label that person in his head as ‘emotional’. But, he portrays it with wry scepticism through body language. Maybe a roll to his eyes or he scoffs mentally. Given the fact that Pisces are often emotional. (Yes, I’m a pisces, let me roast myself.)

But deep down, he’s fascinated about people who infatuate themselves with zodiac signs and use it as part of their personality. Why? Well, people that often latch themselves onto zodiac signs can be seen as a form of self expression. Similar to poetry. 

And he loooooves poetry.

✴︎ Games.

Back on a collaboration post with skrewtiny about Fischer. I mentioned how he would’ve been a gamer.

Weird, I know! Hear me out on this :’)

But Colby?

He would lean towards games that suit his personality more. Stuff like Omori, sky: children of the light, or this could be seen as bit of a stretch but little nightmares. (All 3!). Games that focus visually more on atmosphere, emotion, and story rather than your typical mainstream competitive games.

In a way, that actually reflects colby’s character. He’s the type to think deeply about choices, like whether to talk to the mc or not, because he’s scared it might affect his relationship with his brother. That kind of emotional, story-driven focus fits him perfectly.

✴︎ Music.

He definitely leans toward something like Cigarettes After Sex or Gracie Abrams, he just has that sad pretty boy energy. The kind of boy who listens to slow, visually appealing songs where the lyrics weigh on you. And honestly, I can completely picture him having a collection of CD’s or even a record player, not because he’s pretentious, but because he likes the aesthetic ritual of it.

So, would this make him be the type to replay a song and listen to certain lyrics? Yes. It’ll be similar in a sense where other people recite and read poetry until it sticks into thier brain.

✴︎ Rain watching.

Colby absolutely strikes me as someone who loves staring out of the train window on the way to Hogwarts or on the way back home, especially when it’s raining. There’s something genuinely therapeutic about it for him, the rhythmic movement of the carriage, the soft tapping of the rain hitting against the window. I like to think that he also unconsciously puts anyone that is talking around him simply as background noise.

And the lighting in the carriage during the evening only adds to it (bonus points if it’s the mid of November and it’s dark out by 4pm).

✴︎ Journaling

He expresses himself through scrapbooking. I like to think it plays well into Herbology too. If he sees a flower he likes, he’ll tuck it into whatever book he’s reading and preserves it. And I like to think he documents his surroundings in notebooks as well, like keeping a cinema ticket, or the packaging or wrappers from the Hogwarts Express trolley. Even the jellybeans. He’d flatten the wrapper, jotting down his thoughts on the page, finally trying the sweets wizards and witches kept talking about.

And with flowers around Hogwarts (particularly the green house), I feel like he’d also label them like how flower botanist do aka the names of the flower, where he found them, what type of flower it is, etc.

✴︎𝐇𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬

Colby strikes me as the kind of boy who fidgets when his thoughts race. We see hints of it in the game: he's noticeably introverted, often trailing after his brother, who vividly takes the lead in most situations. It's as if Colby's real personality sits quietly in the background.

Because of this, I imagine him as someone who's generally anxious, someone who hasn't quite found his footing yet. And it’s given me the idea that he’s the type to fiddle with his wand as a coping mechanism. A way of pulling himself back to reality when his thoughts drift too far.

But also as a nervous habit whether that’s by turning it over in his hands or tapping it against his lap.

✴︎𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠

He's definitely lost in his thoughts a lot but not phyically lost; he's still aware of his surroundings. More so like immersive day dreaming.

He always seems like he’s half way in another world, like he’s existing in another version of his current life. That could be why he tends to follow his brother’s lead or repeats what he says (not because he lacks his own thoughts), but because blending in feels safer. It’s easier to stay close to someone who can control the situation when your own mind is somewhere else half the time.

✴︎𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭

I like to think he has a Pinterest account and by Pinterest, I mean private (gotta play it safe). Maybe he uses it for fashion, or just as a place to collect inspiration.

Like moodboards to help picture the things he wants to write about, or even how he sees himself in the future. So we're visualising boards named as oufit ideas, writing stuff, quote ideas, etc.

It's a digital space where he gets to be whoever he's too shy to be out loud.

✴︎𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐱𝐝, ever head or it?

It's no mistake to imagine Colby using it. I like to think due to the adaptation with the technology and reaching hogwarts years later, there would be a section of computers in the library. Colby strikes me as the type of guy that not only snoops about but knows his timing well, knows when to go out to do things which goes against Fischer.

Given how he enjoys poetry in-game, it's no mystery that he'd gravitate toward old black-and-white classics or slow burn movies of today's era. (Such as twilight or even a series of unfortunate events). He wouldn't just rate a movie/film but write a review too, he'd do it for the quiet thrill just for himself.

✴︎𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠

He definitely writes. Maybe not in a way people expect, but as in scripts, or small story scenes, probably full of scribbled-out lines and notes only he understands. He writes when he has time usually when it's quiet. Maybe in the library, or late at night in bed. And I like to think he doesn't always finish things. Not because he's lazy, but because sometimes it's enough just to get the thought down. It's his own way of processing things.
