“Don’t you like think these look so fab and cute?” With a realistically fake smile on her face, Veronica turned and held out a knockoff version of round CHANEL sunglasses. She then pretended to inspect them with the false interest of potentially buying them, knowing that she would never be caught dead wearing such a cheap looking knockoff when she already owned an original pair, but as her gaze reverted back to her companion Veronica let out a gasp as if an idea suddenly came to her. “…You should get them!”

Penny’s initial reaction when she sees the sunglasses is to say no, she doesn’t think they’re cute. The whole big round frame look was never really her style and they always looked weird on her. But Trixie seemed incredibly excited about them, and Penny is nothing if not supportive. Plus, the other girl probably could pull them off with ease. “Yeah, cute.” Penny nods with a smile before turning her attention back to another item. It isn’t until her friend gasps that Penny gives Trixie her full, undivided attention again. “Uh...” she looks at the glasses and back up at her friend’s excited expression before taking them with a small, polite smile. She doesn’t know how exactly to get out of it until she checks the price tag. “Girl,” Penny frowns, giving Trixie a look as she holds the tag in front of her. “now in what universe are real Chanel sunglasses anything less than 100 dollars? Do not let them play you like that.”

libby has never had a crush on another woman before, but let’s be honest….it would be penny. in the midst of her constantly worrying about penny dating a loser guy she would realize it was because she was a loser with a crush on penny and welp it would probably come out by accident.

they would make beautiful music together. literally. what a combo they would be in and out of the studio! libby’s songs would be about her and created with her. amazing.

their outfits would coordinate so beautifully. like they would look so hot together and they know that and their outfits would be fire to prove that. instagram would flag them for being too hot!

hand holding at the club because libby would probably whoop a man’s ass if he hit on penny.

they joined tik tok to do the savage challenge and they haven’t posted on it since. but megan saw and reposted it and they died collectively that day.

libby would love to be around penny’s family someday. her family is so different from hers and seeing a family so together and vibing with each other would be so cool in libby’s eyes.

constant encouragement to get their shit done. they would motivate each other to be their best selves on the daily.

Penny is like Rex’s new knight and shinning armor now. Literally, if it wasn’t for her suggestion for Rex to make a pros and cons list when it came to picking out a cereal, he would have lasted hours on trying to make that decision alone and let’s not even think about how he hadn’t been done with his grocery shopping at that time.

And sorry to say this Penny, but after both helping Rex and offering to continue to do so, you are now stuck with him. You can’t take it back now, he is most likely gonna rely on you for other things now. Sorry, not sorry.

The moment he finished off listing out his pros and cons for the first two boxes of cereal, it felt as if some of the anxieties he had over having to choose was suddenly lifted off of his shoulders. Rex didn’t even react when the girl before him sat the Frosted Flakes back against the shelf, completely nixing it out of the running, and thus making it one less cereal he had to choose from. The corner of his mouth then twitched, and before he realized it, he had a small smile on his face. “Yeah, fuck the Frosted Flakes!” Rex repeated, throwing his left arm up and he punched the air. Then she presented him with the Cheerios, and this time, he stared at them with a look of determination on his face. “I-I sure am! As mentioned perviously, Cheerios are more heartier and healthier than the Cinnamon Toast Crunch.” He stated. “That means that if I want to wake up feeling more refreshed and good about myself, then, well, this would be the one to go. Not only that, but they don’t get soggy easily either and Cheerios are by far, the brand of cereal that’s the most fun when adding fruit to it! You can’t really add much fruit to Cinnamon Toast Crunch unless you want to cause an imbalance with the cinnamon or find yourself with a weird taste in general. And when that happens, it would only result in making a waste of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch because who would want to eat something that they don’t enjoy the taste of?”

Penny laughs when he punches the air, his excitement over his first win practically contagious. She nods her head once, narrowing her eyes and trying her best to keep her face serious as she tries to playfully mimic the determination in his tone. As he talks she pays attention to his points again, and she’s a little impressed by how rationally he’s looking at all this. She’d never thought to really get into what makes a cereal good or not, just always knew some things were trash and she wasn’t wasting her money on them. But this was a new fun way to look at things, a little extra but fun. “Well,” she tosses the box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch onto the shelf haphazardly, dramatically presenting him with the Cheerios. “looks like you’ve made your choice.” Immediately she fixes the box of cereal she threw on the shelf properly with an embarrassed laugh. “Felt bad, sorry.” she admits. “I’m Penny, by the way, in case you still require my free shopping consultation services.”

Rex shook his head in disbelief. See, this is why the reality within a video game was so much better than that of the real world. Not only did he not need to deal with the demonic ways of the capitalists, but he is even able to take charge against them depending on the game he was playing. “And they wonder why there’s a continuous surge of people struggling to make ends meet” He grumbled to himself. No, now’s not the time for him to get all heated up about this. As unfortunate as it is, capitalism is a part of life and right now, his main focus was on the cereals right now, and when she held his two potential choices in front of him, Rex took a deep breath. Pros and cons, he told himself; what are the pros and cons. “Okay, um, for the frosted flakes, I like how they’re pretty much corn flakes but with an added kick to it due to the sugar coating. A-And With the sugar already added, there isn’t a need to do so manually, which is a plus. Tony the Tiger is also a fun and appealing mascot, and seeing him on the box does make the desire of choosing frosted flakes that much more. B-But then we have the cinnamon toast crunch, which has the better commercial approach….even if it, uh, does promote cannibalism due to having each of the little cinnamon squares eating one another. B-b-but that doesn’t negate that the cereal has just the right balance of cinnamon to it in where even when eating it without any milk, the cinnamon won’t taste overbearing. And even with the milk added, it’s still remains crunchy until the very last spoonful, unlike the frosted flakes in where it becomes instantly soggy once the milk is poured.”

Penny listens attentively as he talks, keeping track of all the positive and negative things he has to say about each cereal. She’s sure they look kind of ridiculous to anyone walking by, but she can’t find it in her to care. If this is what helps, then this is what it’ll be. A small, quiet laugh escapes her when he mentions cinnamon toast crunch’s marketing plan promoting cannibalism. It’s a fair point. Not one that would make her stop eating the cereal, but a fair point nonetheless. When he finishes there’s a beat of silence as Penny thinks, trying to sort through the list in her head. “Oh, are we tied on pros?” she mutters to herself. His cinnamon toast crunch list came with a subpoint here or there but in the grand scheme of things it looked like they were tied. She hums in consideration. “Well, soggy cereal is for demons so frosted flakes loses based on that alone.” she announces. “Aaaaand, I don’t really count the cannibalism thing as a point against cinnamon toast crunch cause that’s not their fault, it’s corporate.” she adds with a small shrug. “So Frosted Flakes is done. Fuck that.” There’s a hint of finality in her voice when she says it, and she even puts the box back on the shelf to seal it’s fate. She picks up the cheerios and gives the boy another encouraging smile. “Ready for round two?”

The mood shifts when she sees Meg. Not in a negative way, it’s never in a negative way. It’s good. Well, better than good. It’s weird. Penny isn’t necessarily sure why she’s always so excited to see Meg, but just chalks the joy up to feeling safe around a familiar face. It makes sense. She left everyone she knew back home, so anywhere she can find a second of familiarity is welcome. It’s the same reaction when she’s with Chip, Libby and Riley; she’s sure. “Meg! Hey!” she gives her friend a small wave as she approaches. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? We could’ve came together.” To be fair, she didn’t expect to see Meg here, the picnic didn’t really seem like her scene. But she’s happy she’s here regardless. @itsjustmeg

Rex released a loud gasp, shifting his gaze towards the girl who had spoken up before he widened his own eyes at her. “But that’s extortion!” He remarked in disbelief. No way was he going to buy all three when he knew all he needed was just one box! “Capitalism is already bleeding our wallets dry with taxes, why do they have to bring cereal into this by giving us an abundance to choose from!” Was this why there were so many brands? And that wasn’t even including the knockoff brands in which Rex has yet to look through. “I don’t know…….Uh, Yes?……. Maybe?……..N……..Yes. That might help.”

Penny giggles and nods. “Extortion’s kinda’ their gig.” It’s not an exaggeration or a lie on her part, capitalism at it’s truest form was just corporate greed, especially when it came to food items. She learned that from her dad. And Wizard Kelly too, but mostly her dad. “Because capitalists are evil and hate poor people.” And no, she’s not just saying that because she herself is currently broke as all hell. Capitalism is an evil institution. She watches the boy patiently, eyebrows raised as she waits for him to make a decision. He’s clearly struggling with decision making and the indecisiveness reminds her a little bit of Zoey, so she knows that getting frustrated with him would do no one any good. Besides, she’s a pretty patient person when she needs to be. “Alright, let’s do it then.” she claps her hands together, setting down her own basket of groceries. She picks up the boxes of frosted flakes and cinnamon toast crunch first, holding one up in each hand. “Ok, go for it. Tell me what’s appealing about both. Whichever’s got the most positives goes onto the next round.”

Libby was relieved that at least one familiar face was at this picnic. She was not in the mood to mingle just yet and the sea of unfamiliars was starting to overwhelm. She wasn’t an introverted person by any means, this just wasn’t her scene. And since she wasn’t in charge of the music (for now) she needed something else to occupy her mind. Enter Penny. “Do you think I can convince the DJ to let me take over?” she asked her friend half-joking. “This is the blandest music I have ever heard. Is it country? Is this what royalty listens to in this modern day? Unacceptable.”

Penny hadn’t expected this. The picnic was a nice idea, she wouldn’t lie. It was nice seeing so many people come out to celebrate with one another. She just was expecting something a little...more. Better music, for starters. “If you can’t I’ll distract him so you can take over anyways.” Penny looks at Libby, and while she knows the other girl is joking Penny is dead serious. “And if we get caught...I mean, what are they gonna’ do? Be mad?” she shrugs, motioning for her friend to come with her to the food tables. If she can’t dance to good music she could at least eat. “Let’s go try some casseroles, that sounds new and fun.”

“well thank you, madame,” riley responds, in an equally as bad accent as penny’s - though theirs comes out a bit more french than british. picking up the larger of the drinks, they take a sip and then widen their eyes at the cake pop options. “oh! oh! brithday cake!” realizing how rude it was to just claim a flavor like that, they calm down a little and give penny an apologetic smile. “may i please have the birthday cake one?” a little giggle escapes their lips at both the awkwardness of their questioning and also at the way penny calls them out. “i mostly just try to look busy and avoid my boss. right now he’s over at his girlfriend’s store for lunch, so really i’ve just been sitting here. i got a new game on my phone! it’s like a word matchy one.”

penny grabs her own drink and is taking a sip when riley gets excited. she laughs a little, choking on her drink because she’s caught entirely off guard by her friend’s enthusiasm. “please, take whatever one you want.” she shrugs. “but i’ll remember birthday cake is your favorite for next time.” penny adds with a smile. “ooh is your boss mean? or just strict?” she asks, genuinely curious. penny’s been meaning to get a job soon but the more she hears about bosses from hell the less excited she is about it. so asking riley about their boss is more research than anything. “a word matchy one.” penny snickers, teasing riley’s word choice. “i’m disappointed it’s not something a little more exciting.”

“oh! penny!” riley re-greets the other girl, smile just as wide but more genuine this time as penny approached with snacks in hand. seeing their friend was more than enough to lift their spirits, but they’d never turn down a good cake pop either. “ooohh,” they awed as they bounced on their feet a little in anticipation. “which one’s yours?” their hand moved from drink to drink as they waited for an answer. “and it’s not too bad. okay, yeah, it sucks - but at least it pays.” really riley wouldn’t mind their job at all if it weren’t for the owner being so… well they didn’t even really know how to begin explaining branch’s odd behaviors.

penny waves her arm over the drinks and cake pops with a grand flourish. “only the finest cuisine for my friends.” she jokes, attempting a stuffy british accent that even to her ears sounded a mess. “the smaller drink is me.” she answers, picking up the little bag of cake pops and holding them out to riley. “there’s birthday cake and vanilla and chocolate, i think. i asked for an assortment of pops cause i didn’t know what you’d want.” she explains. she props her elbows up on the counter and grins when riley admits her job can suck sometimes. “don’t know why you was just gonna’ lie to me like that.” she laughs because she knows retail can be the worst, in any capacity. “that’s true,” she nods “has it been slow like this all day? like what do you do when there’s no one here?”

“Your marks in class have been very good. They always are though,” Berlioz says as he approaches the desk Penny is sat at. He pulled up a chair and sat down. He adjusts his glasses and sets down some papers of hers that he had recently graded. Berlioz was always happy to sit down with his students for one-on-one teaching or if they just needed to chat. He made extra time out of his day to be available for it even if it meant skipping his lunch break or staying later in the day. Penny was one of his brightest students and he admired her ambition. “What did you want to work on today, Penny?”

Penny had always been a bit of an overachiever when it came to school. Her parents were strict and didn’t support her friends’ mantra of C’s get degrees, so she always tried her best and pushed for more than the bare minimum. She’d honestly been scared that without their peering eyes she’d become complacent and skate by, but being here only seemed to make her more determined than before. Professor Chat’s music theory class had turned out to be one of her favorites, so she was grateful for his praise. She’d learned so much since transferring schools, but she knew there were things she’d need extra help with. That was the hard part, letting go of her pride and asking for help. Proud was her name afterall. Luckily for her, Professor Chat always seemed willing to help and that made it a little easier. “Thanks for making time to see me today.” she starts, hoping he knows she does appreciate it because most teachers wouldn’t. “Do you know anything about composing?” she flinches when she asks it, aware immediately it’s kind of a dumb question. “Sorry, that was stupid. Um, what I mean is, would you be willing to share any tips or like special rules about it?”

“Maybe I should go with this one….. O-or,…… I should go with this one instead!” Rex mumbled to himself, as he began to reach for a box of cinnamon toast crunch, only to pause mid-grab, switch gears, and go for the frosted flakes instead. And in a similar fashion, just as he was about to grab onto the frosted flakes, he once again, came to a halt. His eyes trailed towards yet another box of cereal that sat next to the frosted flakes, cheerios. “Oh…….Then again…..cheerios are healthier! And heartier!” He said, but rather than going for it like he did with the pervious two, Rex took a step back and released a frustrated yet confused sighed. “Why is it so hard to decide on a box of cereal!!!”

Penny always hated grocery shopping, especially now that she’s an adult and has to do it herself. The issue wasn’t the idea of the shopping, in any setting she loved picking things out. It was the having to pay at the end because money was, as usual, pretty tight for her. She’s throwing a box Rice Krispies cereal in her basket when she notices a boy near her who seems to be having trouble. “Cause capitalism wants you to buy all three.” she jokes as she walks over to him. “Wanna weigh the pros and cons of each? My mama says that’s the best way to make any decision.” she hopes a smiling, albeit unfamiliar, face will help ease him if even a little.

record stores were considered dead now with everyone moving to streaming and downloading but chip still loved them. he had fond memories of joining his father during his appearances and signing as well as his own when he entered the business. he'd been stoked to find out there was one on the island when he first moved and made a regular trip down at least once a week. he felt so comfortable and at ease thumbing through their selections. going down the aisle he'd been eyeing the letters without paying much attention and next thing he knew he was colliding into someone. " oh gosh, i'm so sorry! let me get those for you! " he says bending down quickly to pick up the album he causes them to drop. " i should've been looking wh---- penny?! " he asks excitement clear in his voice when he spots the familiar voice. @missprouds

you couldn’t keep penny proud from music, much to her father’s disapproval. her uncle bobby had always kept vinyls despite the ever changing way people consumed music, claiming that vinyl had a purer sound. she wasn’t sure about all of that but penny knew that sampling for production always sounded better when the source was a vinyl. ordering vinyls online was just pure extortion once you factor in handler’s and delivery fees, so she was ecstatic when she learned there was a record shop on the island. she’d been meaning to drop in for some time now, but with school and football she just couldn’t make it work. but today was a good day, she knew it. and it was only confirmed when she found a copy of janet jackson’s the velvet rope to add to the other records she was intent on buying. “look at God.” she whispers to herself as she picks it up, giving it a quick inspection before moving on to find anything else she’d want to buy. “oop!” she’s caught off guard when she walks right into someone, dropping all her records in the process. well caught off guard and a little embarrassed. “nah, don’t trip. i wasn’t paying attention either.” she explains when the boy bends down to pick up her stuff, she crouches down to help him only to find she recognizes the head of curls and the voice that goes with it. she can’t stop the smile that spreads across her face when he recognizes her too. “the one and only.” she giggles, happy to see her old friend and that he actually remembers her. “God, how have you been? it’s been a minute.”

it was a fairly boring day at work for riley. with it still being a little chilly out most days, no one was really in need of much sporting or camping equipment so the store was fairly slow. until the front door bell rang and riley perked up immediately. “hey!” they called out, moving out from their spot behind the counter to head towards the front. “welcome to go the distance! how can i help you today?” @missprouds

penny’s always been a girl dedicated to her friends. in any way she can she tries to show up for them, even if it’s something as small as bringing a friend a snack simply because she was thinking of them. that’s how she finds herself at go the distance on a complete whim, strawberry acai lemonades and cake pops in hand for her and riley. when she walks through the door it seems as if she’s the only person who’d stepped in for a while now. riley’s quick to greet her and she’s not sure if that’s their excitement at having something to do now or just a customer service personality reporting for duty. “it’s just me, you ain’t gotta do all that.” penny giggles, walking over to the counter to set the portable tray with their drinks down. “retail fucking sucks, so i figured you could use a treat.” she explains.
