fleeingdelphine:
Her name was soft and sweet much like how the girl in front of her seemed to be. It suited her. She drank more of her water and wrapped her hands around the cup. She wondered why they called her that though, of course her personality and appearance had to have something to do with it, but most people on the island went by nicknames so she must too. She continued to question it for a moment before shoving the thought to the back of her head when she spoke again. “Yeah, I do.” She gave a nod and a smile. “They’ve been to places I dream of going, so they interest me.”
The name she’d been assigned at birth rarely crossed Bambi’s mind these days. It was just that--an assignment, a figment of who she might have once been. A name tainted by crisp, English accents and a slight upturn of the nose. But that was beside the point--it all was. She was somewhere safe now. In Neverland, a place she didn’t understand but longed to, roaming with childish curiosity. Dreams--another thing she understood. Though again, why anyone other than Ollie would dream of ships was entirely beside her. “Bella--erm, beautiful.”

I am the eternal optimist. No matter how rough it gets, there’s always light somewhere. The rest of the sky may be cloudy, but that little bit of blue draws me on.

What were your parents like?
Nostalgia isn’t entirely in her nature, and though she misses her family, misses Italia, it doesn’t fill her with a sense of listless sadness to be so far from it. But she does miss her papa.
“Kind. Bella--um... beautiful.” Expressing her feelings towards her parents in English was a struggle, one she fought hard to keep up with. “Miss them.”
“No, not illegal. I would never do anything to get you in trouble, Bambi,” he promises, blue eyes as earnest as he can possibly force them to be. His fingers twitch against the bar, giving the impression that he had intended to reach out and take her hand, but had thought better of it. Three knows how to play his part by now, the young man caught between charming and respectful, yearning for comfort and closeness but ultimately demuring as if his attentions might be unwelcome.
He sighs, putting his glass down and scrubbing a hand through his hair, “It’s the other boys, yeah? They- they don’t know I come here, and I know they wouldn’t like it if they did… if they knew we were friends. They might stop me from coming back.”
She’d hardly been worried about herself with the question--undoubtedly, the Pirates didn’t seem to mind that she gave alcohol to the Island’s younger residents. Trade was trade, money was money. No matter how she went about it, the pirates had few rules for Bambi, so long as she kept them happy--and she had every intention of doing so. But that was beside the point.
Instinctively, Bambi reached out her own hand to lay over Three’s, concern in her eyes and a soft smile on her face. “Why?” The question was curious but gentle, not pushing, but... certainly laced with confusion. There were plenty of bambini perduti who made their way through this bar on their own time--why shouldn’t Three be allowed to as well?
Curiosity Slayed a Doe || Closed
Dawn didn’t realize her mistake until, admittedly, that very moment. She had kept an eye on the shore ever since she’d run out, whoever this woman was–she was not someone notable enough to travel with the ship. Not that Dawn knew all the pirates by name, and even then she only recognized a few by face, but still…The only pirate she’d known to remain on the island when the Jolly Roger departed Neverland’s shore was Benji. Much to her chagrin, as she often planned a coup d'état of the village itself. Not that she thought the boy-pirate could really defend himself, and in fact that was more of the reason why she didn’t attempt to overpower the village.
Whoever this girl was must be equally useless. Or she was left behind for a much more malicious reason, and Hook was about to enact his revenge on Dawn through her. Though it seemed unlikely. Or stupid.
“Practice?” she asked, tone clipped. “Problem? You have a problem?”
The simple fact of the matter was that communication and Bambi were not friends. She stumbled over her words, over getting her point across to the people of the Island. The Natives and the bambini perduti didn’t understand her. The bastards--or, fish-people--didn’t seem to venture that far down the coastline, and the tiny people of the trees... well, she wasn’t entirely sure they existed in the first place. Perhaps they were just a dream; she was never sure anymore.
And as the girl repeated her English words back to her, Bambi knew where the problem lay. She was impossible to understand. Nobody knew what she meant, nobody spoke her language. And so she was stuck, shaking her head and stubbing the toe of her boot into the hard, cold ground, trying to figure out how to explain what she’d been saying.
Slow, even breaths. “You... um...” Think, Bambi, think. “No like Wicked Wench?”
She took from context that she was asking the same question back to her and she nodded with a shrug. “I’m doing fine thank you.” Delphine wondered where this girl was from and she wondered what it was like there. More so wondering if they had good healers there. Her voice sounded very different from what she’s used to hearing so it made her wonder if she could understand what she was saying if she were to ramble on about things which she tends to do sometimes. She wanted to ask but it was none of her business and from what she’s observed most pirates aren’t too keen on talking about their past. “I’m Delphine by the way.”
Delphine. What an odd name... not that Bambi would ever say as much. She was many things, but rude was not one of them. A small smile played at her lips as she fiddled with the rag in her hands. “Bambi.” She offered with a grin, taking a moment to pour herself a cup of water as well, taking a small sip. It tasted like... like miele. Sweeter than she was accustomed to. Sweeter than anything back home. “You.. like ships?”
What about you? What if you end up hurting him?
She freezes, jaw clenched tight. It’s a possibility she’s never considered--what if she hurts Three? A long, slow breath escapes her lungs and her fingers once again claw at nothingness, then at the skin of her arms under her sleeves as she folds them over her chest. But she doesn’t have a problem, there is no problem. Va tutto bene. Lei sta bene.
“I wouldn’t.”
Are you worried that Three will end up hurting you?
The question strikes her as absurd. How could Three--dolce, bella Three--hurt her? Her brow furrows dramatically, a started laugh sweeping from her lungs like a bird through the air. “No. He will not.”
what's the worst thing you've ever done?
In the time it takes her to process the question, a huge shift occurs. Bambi’s smile disappears. Her eyes widen, narrow, and revert back to something just barely too closed-off to be normal. Her fingers dig into the nothingness of the air like claws until she hides them in her too-long sleeves. It’s too late to feign misunderstanding, but she tries anyway, as images of blood and broken bone and brain matter wreak havoc in her own skull.
“Hmm?” A cautious tilt of her head. “Cosa significa?”
have you ever been in love?
A somber smile slides over her lips; it’s a question she actually understands without much effort, and one that... well, addresses things she’d rather not consider. Bambi shrugs, a faux indifferent roll of her shoulders. “No.”
Does she even deserve to be?
bed, wed, behead: three, dawn, diva
Though she doesn’t quite understand the point of the question, she recognizes simply by tone of voice that it is one, and strives to understand the meaning behind it. She understands that they’re asking about Three, and that the blonde girl from the forest, and the one with hair like fire... but she can’t quite place the question itself.
“Hmm?”
Bed: DawnWed: ThreeBehead: Diva (if only bc that’s all that’s left. nothing personal.)
Do you think you're faster than your demons?
Though it is a rare sight to see Bambi unsettled or bitter, she is now both, her lips pursed, eyes dropping to the worn counter-top of the Wicked Wench. Is she faster than her demons? No one is. At least, she thinks not. “Devo provare.”
