IT’S HALLOWEEN TIME TO GET SPOOKY

ok who the fuck got this on my dash it’s still june
get spooky
how does this appear every june
I am eight years late to it, but I’m finally listening to “Welcome to Night Vale” and despite being a famed podcast hater...I like it.
Also, how the fuck is my personal style simultaneously canon Cecil and fanon Cecil?!
Interviewer: Mr. Blanchet says that by extension of accusing Alain Therrien of being a racist, that you are calling Bloc Québecois a racist party, that they’re all racist. And he says that they’re not, that they come from a nation of Quebec which is welcoming and open, that they appreciate diversity. Do you think the Bloc Québécois is a racist party?
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh: This is a really important question.
In this experience, I have not named a party. I called out one person. But I will name a party.
The systemic racism that we’re up against was created by those in power. As far as I know, the only two parties that have been in power in Canada have been either Conservative or Liberal.
So let me name the parties that are responsible for systemic racism in Canada — Liberal and Conservative. Full stop.

b99 is more culpable, actually
all cop shows are propoganda, but most cop shows are made for 18-49 white men who’re scared of face masks
b99′s target demographic, however, is young, queer and racially diverse. b99′s target demo is all the people who’re the most vulnerable to police brutality. b99′s target demo is all the folks who absolutely should never be lead to believe the way to view the cops is the way you view jake fuckin peralta.
b99 had a bisexual Latina cop laugh and say she suggests police brutality, later showing interest and excitement over the exact sound weapon we’re now seeing used in retaliation to protests (side note: when i saw that episode, i thought that weapon was made up because it seemed so sci-fi villain-ish).
they have their whole host of cop characters, including the straight-laced official types, regularly treat their job like a game.
yes they had an episode about racial profiling. but what was that episode telling us? that at the end of the day, there are good cops within the system actively fighting corruption and winning. i recently saw someone in exact words say “b99 taught me that not all cops are bad.” that’s copaganda. even if you believe in your heart that some cops are good, they are still people with weapons designed to kill whose job centers on apprehending anyone they deem a trouble-maker, and they are. not. your. friends.
b99 wants you to believe that diversity within the system creates fair treatment, right? that a gay Black captain and a crew of racially and sexually diverse cops are the Good Guys.
in real life, the Seattle chief of police is a Black woman who is AT BEST allowing the people in her command to terrorize their city, and at worst actively commanding it. the tear-gassing in seattle? the little girl who got pepper-sprayed? that happened under the leadership and command of a Black woman. because cops are cops first. the job itself demands that they abandon their communities and their humanity. we joke about being [x thing] first and human second a lot, right? well, cops really are.
b99 talked about the prison industry, right? they talked about guard brutality, retaliation, in-prison violence, right? but think about the fact that within that plotline, the cops were the only characters who we were told didn’t belong there. how cinnamon roll jake peralta, a Good Cop Who Didn’t Belong in Prison, was interacting exclusively with people like a gang leader and an unrepentant cannibal.
b99 is deeply insidious cop propaganda. and i’ve watched it and i’ve enjoyed it! and i don’t believe the creators set out to make copaganda. i think they were trying to do a lighthearted riff on your standard procedural, and they cast a diverse group of actors, and they tried to write socially conscious scripts, and they slowly snowballed their way into copaganda while we were all distracted by andy samberg getting hotter.
i’m not at all saying don’t watch cop shows, if that’s your thing, i guess. hell, i’ve enjoyed more than one of them in my life. but please think critically about their messaging and choose to reject what does not align with your values. think critically about your values, and what influences them. and for the love of god, stop responding to people’s angry, grieving cries over Black people being systematically murdered by cops by defending your favorite fictional cop. real people are dead.
Black lives matter more than fake cops. that’s all.
Wow this person can go and never speak again
True story: I heard people (unmasked) talking about Sohla and saying she should be “grateful” for what she’s paid. I yelled “fuck you” at them.
Honestly, I keep thinking about stuff from one of Dominique Browning’s memoirs about the closing of House and Garden. She talks about how Condé Nast wouldn’t let them get bolts of fabric from the storerooms because they were afraid of them stealing computers and how very sudden the end of that magazine was.
So, yeah, I’ve said it before and will say it again: FUCK CONDE NAST.
(Also pretty sure she wrote somewhere about how people were shocked/angry at Conde Nast about her being EIC at House and Garden because she wasn’t someone who had come up through the system there and they usually promoted from within.)
Since I haven’t seen any mention of it yet, except on twitter, i’d also like to remind everyone that not only is June LGBT pride month, but it’s also Indigenous History month!
Please take the time to support, uplift and remember your Native, First Nations, Aboriginal and otherwise Indigenous friends and family. We are here, we exist! We have a long and winding history that deserves to be heard and respected! The word ‘Indigenous’ is so wonderful, and so expansive, and includes so many different cultures under its arms. Go out, learn about our histories and our cultures. Talk to the Indigenous people around you! We’re everywhere!
And not only that, but also be sure to give extra support to LGBT indigenous voices in this community. We are a minority that is scarcely acknowledged, and in desperate need of it. Too many times have I gotten strange looks for being so openly Native and so openly a lesbian. It’s as if that combination is impossible for people to understand. Support our content, buy from our stores! Or at least just include us!
I’d like to wish a happy LGBT pride month, and a happy Indigenous History month to everyone, but especially us LGBT Native folks. This really is our month to be open about ourselves, and I sure intend to. 💗🏳️🌈
Arata Isozaki’s Palladium Nightclub Through the Lens of Timothy Hursley
In May 1985, an old theater and concert hall opened its doors to the public for the opening of a brand new nightclub in New York City. Located on 126 East 14th Street, the project was commissioned by entrepreneurs Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, owners of the also famous club Studio 54, and was conceived as a vibrant and luminous independent structure arranged inside a rather classic shell, which appears as a beautiful backdrop behind the clean geometry of Isozaki.
PS I spent so many great nights at the Palladium in the late 80s/early 90s. These pics brought back those memories with a vengeance!
RIP Palladium

I kept giving TV recommendations for social distancing and telling people, “Hey, if you have time, watch Murdoch Mysteries.”
My mom started Murdoch Mysteries in early March, before the safer at home order in her state.
My dad has been sheltering with her and he enjoys Murdoch.
They announced to me yesterday they’ve gotten as far as “Sir. Sir? Sir!!!”—they loved it!—and I feel oddly proud.
(They love Watts and Crabtree! They think Ruth and Henry are perfect for each other! My mother loves the evolution of Margaret’s character!)
