The size difference between a dog and a mouse is a large one
What is a mouse to see
but the claws that tear
and paws that churn earth,
a nose that tracks and teeth that bare.
Never the tongue that soothes
or the ears that listen,
the chest that breathes,
the heart that thrums.
The mouse knows,
the mouse knows of life
beyond hunting
and being hunted,
but wanting is dangerous.
Empathy is a luxury,
caution is survival.
