lowkey I wonder if people missed the point or if I'm the one misinterpreting, because I hear

"I'm a straight man in the way that a tomato is a fruit"

and take it to mean "I'm straight but everyone else keeps deciding I'm not, the same way a tomato is technically a fruit but often gets called a vegetable"

and then he continues to self identify as a straight man in that conversation, but some corners of this fandom are either not grounded in reality or just hell-bent on thinking they can read between lines when they can't, or when there aren't lines to read between

idk personally if a guy repeatedly says "I'm straight" I'm gonna assume he's straight, because that's the thing he said. but sometimes this place makes me feel like a freak for ... hearing the cast when they talk

part of me wants to make wildly sarcastic parasocial assumptions just so people can see how ridiculous it sounds. but I know this comedy fandom can't parse out a joke and it would get so out of hand so fast (as if it's not already out of hand)

like yes there's obviously a legit discussion to be had about neurodivergence and the ability to read sarcasm. that's very real and I'm not arguing against that. I am ND myself, but with regards to sarcasm (with smosh in particular) it is usually extremely easy to clock a joke or to say "oh this might be a reference I don't get" and move on. and I wish more of the fandom could do that part idk

I unfollowed damien on tiktok, not for any personal negative reason, I just rarely use it anyway and I was sick of getting a dozen notifications about him a day (and almost nobody else) and my phone is STILL getting blown up every time he farts or something. not to be rude but I don't care? I hate getting all the notifications? I unfollowed so it would stop happening and it hasn't? super annoying ngl

I guess? they did threaten to block me because I was talking about how smosh fans hold queer/poc cast (in this case, chanse) under a microscope for doing the same shit the straight white cast does (make sex jokes or gay jokes or both)

tbh I forget the specific thing I said that got the "congrats you're getting a block" response, I was kinda on one I'll admit, but there was a specific thing I said. I don't take it personally. if you think you have to finger wag and hold the block button over my head, it feels like a parent trying to punish a child. I'm an adult and that shit didn't work when I was a kid anyway. block me or don't, but trying to taunt me with it is fucking weird

anyway I was right, this fandom still holds its share of racial bias and no accountability for it (or other behaviors, but this conversation was specifically about racial bias) and if you're so offended by that statement that you feel the need to block me, or threaten to block me like I'm supposed to be scared of it, look inward. whoever runs that blog has a history of being a hypocrite since it started, picking and choosing when certain things are acceptable (or rather, who they've decided is or is not allowed to say or do anything they don't personally like) and they have a history of ragging on chanse specifically (calling him things like "dehumanizing" and "pathological" because he jokes about his age or his sex life, things that half the cast do on a regular basis for laughs)

I think it's really fucking peculiar to use that kind of language about the black guy but not the white guys when they do the same things. I don't wanna hear "it doesn't get discussed" because if you look through that blog (check the name tags, they're pretty good about tagging) you will in fact find it, and they don't talk about the straight white guys that way. when spencer makes an off-color joke or tries to be "fake edgy" with some sideways misogynist humor, it's "annoying" but when chanse jokes about his age, he's pathological? it will not ever make sense to me in a way that doesn't point to racism.

and I don't wanna hear that shayne/spencer/trevor, even ian still, don't make the same jokes. they absolutely do, more often than chanse tbh. he's allowed to do it too, and that's not a debate. if you didn't like that kind of humor, you wouldn't be watching the content, because that's been in their brand for 20 years and they're clearly not stopping. if you can handle it when shayne or spencer do it, shut up when chanse does it. if you have a problem with the queer black guy doing it, I'm gonna assume at least one of two things (racial bias or homophobia) and in my experience I've never been wrong in those assumptions, so...
