more toxic grace because he’s infesting my mind

grace growing strangely jealous of the other eridians rocky happens to talk to. grace subtly influencing rocky to stop talking to certain people, finding any excuse possible to keep them away. grace getting anxious whenever rocky stays out for too long, so rocky has to resort to taking grace everywhere with him (he doesn’t mind. he’s equally as anxious being away from grace so he can’t complain)

grace doesn’t even mean to act this way. rocky’s just one of the only people he’s held so close to his heart in such a long time and he can’t lose that. he can’t lose him because if he does, he doesn’t know what he’ll do with himself

i love rocky being obsessed with grace (or the obsession being mutual) but the idea of grace being obsessed with rocky is a little funny to me. you know he’d be awkward about it. he’s in his room losing his mind about it and he knows rocky can see him through the walls. he doesn’t care. he kind of likes it

i meant disgustingly toxic gracerocky. like grace or rocky losing their mind on their trip to erid and asking the other “would you kill someone for me. can you kill someone for me” and the other is hesitant but eventually they’re just like yes. yes i would

i know we love manipulative rocky because he’s older and just as (if not even more) intelligent than grace but what about manipulative grace. grace who can’t afford to lose the one person he’s had a deep bond with in years so he does everything he can to keep that person within reach.

grace testing rocky’s loyalty to him, really toeing the line at times. rocky isn’t stupid so he questions grace about it, and grace explains that it’s just human behavior. that he gets a little anxious about their friendship sometimes and he needs reassurance, needs to know that rocky would do anything to keep their friendship intact. and rocky would, in a heartbeat. because that’s what friends are for, right??

adding onto this even more because i need to.

they’re getting settled on erid. grace is already losing his mind so the next time rocky visits he asks, completely out of the blue, “would you kill someone for me?”

rocky hesitates. “is grace okay, question? why grace ask something like that?”

“answer me. would you?”

and it slowly starts to dawn on rocky that yes, yes he would. he would do anything for grace. grace just had to say the word and it’d be done.

it’s terrifying. it’s vile.

it’s beautiful.

“yes,” rocky says, his notes slower than usual. “i would.”

grace goes quiet. it’s the most silent rocky’s ever seen grace and it’s unsettling. finally he speaks, his voice low.

“then do it.”

Post-movie/book headcanons inspired by my convo with my lovely mutual @misterinaction

Rocky who, upon return to Erid, is very…touch and go. Some days he’s good, some days he’s…well.

Grace isn’t doing so hot, of course. With nine different shades of malnutrition, he is Suffering with a very large capital S. And Rocky, bless him, isn’t coping. He is…frantic.

Because Grace is the reason he’s still alive. His everything. The most comforting sounds in the entire universe come from that ridiculously fragile squishy body.

He desperately needs Grace to get better. He calls for the best medical teams possible, teaches them all himself about Grace’s body. Of course, anything for the Saviours of Erid. Some days are good. He’s restless and scared and humming at a frequency you would use to soothe your pebbles.

Other days, nobody is allowed into Grace’s rooms because Rocky is consumed with paranoia and he doesn’t trust anyone as much as he trusts himself, Grace doesn’t trust anyone as much as he trusts Rocky, and Rocky needs Grace to get better, so he’ll fucking do it himself.

Paranoid Rocky. Scared Rocky. Desperate Rocky. All for Grace, who had to be put into another coma to preserve his strength and minimise his struggles with the 29 Eridian atmospheres of pressure, the ammonia, the burning heat. Rocky already promised he would not let Grace die, and he will keep that promise. Even if it means he has to endure sleepless weeks at Grace’s bedside, listening to his loud, squishy human body and organs get quieter and quieter. The silence of Ryland Grace’s march towards death by starvation is the single most terrifying silence of all.

It’s the worst Rocky has been since his last crewmate died, decades ago. He can’t lose another.

paranoid, desperate rocky haunts me. paranoid rocky isolating grace in his house, doing everything he can to help him, to fix him but nothing’s working.

other eridians begging rocky to let them help but rocky shutting them all out. none of them can help like he can. grace needs him.

grace is dying, and rocky wants to be the only one to witness it.
