Do Something
Recently, I did something that felt a little out of character for a Sunday evening. After an extremely full weekend that included a day at Six Flags, followed by our band playing a show, followed by my son’s baseball game the next day, and finally, getting the kids fed, bathed, and put to bed, I did something. Normally, I would have sat on the couch, turned on the television, and scrolled through the Internet during commercials. Instead, I picked up my guitar and learned a Bob Dylan song.
It felt so good to do something. To make better use of my time, and have something to show for it. We would all be better off if we put this into practice more often.
In case you were wondering about the Bob Dylan song, it is “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You.”
Save Money. Live Better?
While returning from vacation, I passed a Walmart truck plastered with its slogan, Save Money, Live Better. On its face, and based on my own experience, I believe this to be true. Saving your hard earned money can certainly make life better. However, Walmart has other ideas. They’re not encouraging you to save your money, they’re encouraging you to spend your money on things you probably don’t need. Essentially, Walmart and many others are saying, “Spend Money. Live Better.”
Saving money by spending less on an item does not make for a better life. Saving and being more intentional with your money does.
