i really thought the point of "being lgbt+ doesn't absolve you of racism as a white person" was that white people arent absolved of racism by being marginalized but it really seems like people think other marginalizations make it okay. no being disabled doesn't do it. no being poor doesnt do it. we need to fight against racism actively no matter what.

Genuinely so important to me that there was no romance in phm.

And the person he needed to be brave for was his best friend. It wasn't a lover, a partner, a romantic interest. It was his best friend.

And honestly this isn't even specifically about aroace grace- Rockys story could so easily be a romantic one. He's been completely alone trying to finish an impossible mission without his crew for years. And then an alien comes and they learn how to communicate. And with that alien they both save their planets. Rocky gives Grace fuel with no hesitation, even if in the movie it means he will get back home 6 years slower. 6 years longer to see his mate. And he still does it without hesitating for even a second.

That kind of devotion and story could have so easily been romantic. Two aliens who help save each other, who are both the most important people to each other, but they're not lovers.

Phm being a story about friends means so much to me

"I argue that anti-Haitianism, a foundational hemispheric form of anti-Blackness, can be traced to the inception of Haiti and all that the creation of Haiti birthed. The founding of Haiti as the world’s first free Black Republic in 1804 occurred after a bloody and violent revolution (1791-1803), which, at the time, was unanticipated and unsuspected by the Saint-Domingue planter class, the political left of France and England, and other actors. The late anthropologist Michel-Rolph Trouillot argued that the events of the Haitian Revolution were 'unthinkable' in the framework of Western thought. The Haitian Revolution inspired admiration, resistance and hope for Black people who were chattel slaves. It spawned unrest throughout the Caribbean region, in maroon communities in Jamaica and St. Kitts, and throughout the slaveholding South of the USA. And as historian Michael O. West and sociologist William G. Martin argue, the founding of Haiti gave birth to Black internationalism in the sense that Haiti served as a model of Black liberation for other enslaved Africans. By the way it's like. Really fucked how society's thoughts on epilepsy is just "get over it." Seizures can cause permanent brain damage. Seizures can kill people. Seizures hurt like hell. Allow me to reiterate that seizures can kill people. And you're just gonna casually put flashing lights, a common trigger for seizures in your advertisement, in your animation meme, in your edit, on your billboards, without even thinking about putting a simple disclaimer? That's unbelievable. Your little anime edit could deadass cost a life and you're not gonna put a warning because it's "inconvenient" or "people like that shouldn't be on the internet" (ableist) (the problem exists outside the internet also). Or you'll give insufficient ones like putting it in the captions or only giving like one second before the flashing lights appear, meaning that the trigger's already in motion before anyone who needs the warning can read it and save themselves from literal physical danger.

We need to start commenting under other people's posts about how to properly warn for flashing lights and eyestrain. We need to be emailing and calling companies about their possibly triggering advertisements that could induce seizures. We need to stop tolerating ableism and start speaking up for the more vulnerable.

Also, stop putting epilepsy warnings. That's like saying "warning: schizophrenia" on a post including unreality or "warning: dyslexia" on a post with a typing quirk. First off, the disability mentioned isn't the only group of people that this could trigger. Second, it doesn't truly get the message across and instead makes it worse for those with the disability-- scrolling through the epilepsy tag on Tumblr should get you to view the content of other epileptic people, but no, you just get a bunch of flashing lights and eyestrain, even though you could instead tag for, oh I dunno, flashing lights and eyestrain.

Anyways this Disability Pride, and for every month that comes after, think about epileptic people and others who are triggered by flashing lights/eyestrain. Happy pride to those who experience seizures too frequently due to the unaccommodating and ableist societies we live in!

Just to try and help out and spread the word, there are two chrome extensions I've found that might be able to help.

Seizafe: This extension scans youtube videos and warns you if they contain things like flashing lights that could cause a seizure.

CogniShield: This extension (supposedly, it has like no reviews) dims the screen to a safe level if flashing lights are detected; it can also be used to limit volume. It might help.

If anybody else knows of any accessibility tools, please share them.

I do think you lose your right to medical privacy when you decide to become a politician and it is mad fucked up that these people hold our lives in their hands and are allowed to disappear for months on end with no explanation. You need a doctor’s note to miss school for a cold but we have no clue if Mitch McConnell is dead or alive and Tom Kean was allowed to fuck off for 4 months without telling the public why. I don’t give a fuck about your privacy, you’re not protecting my privacy, if you’re leeching tax dollars and partying it up in a rich person rehab resort somewhere while your constituents vote against our access to healthcare, we should be allowed to know. Fuck you. I say this as a disabled person, I’m always having to explain the nature of my disability and the details of my health but we’re not allowed to know what the fuck is going on with these people.

This is likely to be of no interest to anyone other than myself, but I am so inordinately proud of my little popularity contest spreadsheet. There's a few patterns of interest here, but I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that Scott's data alone brings the average view count of vsmp as a whole up by a whopping 22 thousand views, which I think qualifies him as an outlier. If you factor in Owen and Shelby, then yeah, it's no wonder it seemed like the entire fanbase was on team Scott Goldsmith.

Racefakers and rcta people are so werid, yall just like the idea of us, you don't actually see us as people 😭 you see as pokemon cards you can use for whatever reason or quirky identities with culture you want to steal so you attempt to "transition" to another group to gain access to it, because you think its a cool club your not invited to, you want what you think is some sort of privilege or special treatment but you dont actually understand nor want the hardships racialized people face, thats especially why a lot of people like this choose groups they consider "ideal" in some way which HEAVILY plays into the model minority stereotype Asian people are often assigned by white people. I do understand that its typically white women or white teenage girls doing this, so there is an air of self hate or low self esteem, but its still racist and it will never not be racist regardless if your self image is struggling, thats not an exuse to essentially fetishize and water us down to cute aesthetics or some area of privilege you feel your owed or want acess too, it is just inherently built off of an extremely unhealthy and racist view of people of color.
