Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about sharks.

For the longest time, I feared them. Movies, stories, all of it made them seem like monsters. But the more I’ve learned, the more I’ve realized something:

Sharks aren’t evil.

They don’t hate.

They don’t sin.

They don’t kill for cruelty.

They survive.

They’ve crossed these oceans for millions of years, long before us, carrying instincts older than empires. Always moving. Always enduring.

And honestly, there’s something beautiful in that.

It changed my perspective.

Now instead of fear, I feel awe.

I’ve even been thinking about creating Renaissance-style paintings of sharks and sea creatures pieces meant to show their beauty, power, and ancient place in creation.

And if I ever sold those works, I’d want the money to go toward protecting sea life.

Because these creatures matter.

Not because they’re harmless.

But because they are alive, ancient, and worthy of respect.

Maybe art can help people see what fear often hides:

I have a dumb headcanon for Regular Show. You remember the episode "Every-Meat Burritos?" In the end, they claimed that the titular burritos tasted like chicken.

My theory is this: It IS chicken. It being an "every meat" burrito is just a scam to lure in customers. What's in the burrito is just ground chicken, probably seasoned slightly to conceal the taste.

Evidence:

1. Almost every single recreation of the EMB tasted terrible when prepared with multiple types of meat.

2. Most of the meat types listed in the commercial (bat-eared fox, naked mole rat, crow, pigeon, opossum, long pig, hagfish, coelocanth, etc) are either inedible, dangerous, or, in the case of "long pig" (an outdated term for human flesh), illegal to consume.

3. As shown by "binging with babish", all the meat types need to be cooked for different times at different temperatures - which can take ages. Therefore, if it really was "every meat", they wouldn't be able to just give away four burritos a few minutes after someone orders them.

4. Deceptive advertising is a constant throughout the series; the maximum glove doesn't work as advertised, the TV store warehouse does NOT give away free TVs, Dudetime cologne doesn't get you any ladies, and so forth. Therefore, it's quite likely the restaurant follows this trend too.

5. Given the expenses of acquiring all those meat types, the resulting burrito would probably cost more to make, and sell, than an actual fast food restaurant item. Fast food is cheap, after all.

I think a big part of the reason Pokopia is hitting so hard for so many people is that we have had an absolute glut of post apocalyptic media that take the "humans are the monsters/disease/problem" angle. Even the most well meaning solar-punk I can think of often have this undercurrent of 'humanity's nature is inherently short sighted and exploitive and they must constantly be kept in check to protect the environment' which slides very quickly into 'the world would be better off without humans in it to complicate and threaten things'.

But Pokopia fully does not do that. The world is lonely without humans and lesser for humanity's absence. So much of the game is about how Pokemon miss humans and are struggling to make sense of a world without us, how the ecosystem is just as hurt by our absence as any other species, and how the things we left behind, even in ruins and burned shells, are often beautiful and strange and helpful to the Pokemon who find them.

Pokemon have always been this allegory for the natural world- back to the original idea of the games inspired by children who caught bugs and kept ant farms- and thus the relationship between Pokemon and humans becomes this allegory for the relationship between nature and humans. And Pokopia looks you dead in the eye and says "the world would be poorer without humans, and if we all vanished tomorrow the echoes of who we are and the things we did would still ring out for eons uncountable. We would be missed and mourned and searched for and the wound of our absence would be deeply felt on this earth for the rest of its turning. The actions of a few greedy short sighted humans will never change that."

And that. That hits.
