I’m always a slut for bad decisions.
Jacob Frye, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (via incorrectacquotes)
"Evie... I need your help with something."
“Oh?” Evie asked suspiciously, narrowing her eyes at him and then giving him a small smile as she put her hand on his shoulder and squeezed it “What is it, Jacob?”
Jacob blushed again and looked down. "I... I wish to court someone, and... And I'm not sure how I ought to go about it. Could I get your advice?"
"Who are you? What are you doing here?"
{Question starters: X}
“Someone who must clearly be lost, good sir,” Marletta replied, a look of innocence crossing her features as she played off her true intent with a shy smile, “I do hope I’ve not trespassed against you. I was merely running some errands when I seemed to have gotten all turned around.” She knew the streets were dangerous, both the Blighters and their new rising opposition, but curiosity and mysteries were her passion and she wanted nothing more than to unravel them.
Jacob raised an eyebrow. A lady as obviously as well-bred as the one before him belonged on this dingy street as much as he belonged in a session of Parliament. It made a warning bell go off in his head, and he sauntered toward her, an easy smile on his face.
"Right," he drawled lazily, taking off his hat and giving her a small bow. "Jacob Frye, at your service. Allow me to escort you somewhere more safe? The gangs prowl around at night, and I wouldn't want you to be hurt."

“I haven’t been able to sleep… Not since I was rescued from Jack’s cell.” His voice was hoarse and there were bags underneath his one good eye. “I would kill for a bottle of whiskey. God, even a knock to the back of the head would suffice. I don’t think I’ve ever been so tired in my life.”
“Whisky won’t help you, Mr Frye,” Amelia, a new recruit to the order who’d been rescued from a Templar-run institution a few weeks before the Ripper Murders started, replied calmly as she worked, “And a knock to the head would only provide you with continual headaches as a result of concussion - here,” a steaming cup of some sort of pale herbal tea was placed on the table next to him, “It’s Chamomile and Valerian - I put a little honey in to sweeten it, since the Valerian can be a little bitter, but at least it’ll help you sleep easy tonight,”
“You had us worried sick, you know - we would’ve torn London apart looking for you if your sister hadn’t arrived,”
The tea smelled lovely, but Jacob shook his head slowly. "I don't know if it will be strong enough," he murmured, ashamed of showing weakness in front of anyone, but especially a new Initiate.
The nightmares and memories had plagued him, day and night. He was struggling to shut them out, and struggling even more to determine what was real and what wasn't.
"It's a good thing you didn't," he told her, taking the tea and swallowing several mouthfuls. "He would have killed all of you... And I have enough blood on my hands as it is."
There was silence for a few moments as he fought back the demons in his mind to remember his manners. "Amelia, right? Thank you, for the tea and the company."

“Don’t sell yourself short,” Jacob told her. “He isn’t stupid - you are the best.”
He hated hearing her speak badly of herself, despite the fact that he only thought the worst of himself. Irritably, he stripped off his shirt, standing only in his soaking trousers.
“But not being ready is completely different,” he agreed. Marriage is a massive commitment and you’re right to not take it lightly.“
“Marriage was never really on my list of things to do” Evie shrugged, smiling at Jacob and letting out a quiet sigh as she sat down and picked up a brush to comb her hair before she bathed “Especially not all those miles away in another country” she added, looking over her shoulder at Jacob and shrugging lightly. “I couldn’t leave you”
“Here.” He gently took the brush from her hands and began to brush her long, dark hair for her. “Let me.”
Jacob enjoyed brushing his twin’s hair, knowing that she found it relaxing. He was extremely careful, using one hand to brush her hair and the other to massage the area where her neck and shoulders met.
“I’m glad to hear you say that,” he murmured into her ear after a while. “I don’t know if I could last in a world without you.”
Evie hoped he would brush her hair after she had bathed as well, a soft sigh of approval coming from her as she relaxed under his touch. “I believe that we were born together for a reason, Jacob, and I think we compliment each other don’t you? Our weaknesses are the other one’s strengths”
He smiled down at her and kissed the top of her head again. “Everything happens for a reason, Evie. And you are my strength - I just happen to be every possible weakness for you.”
Jacob set the brush down and began to massage her shoulders in earnest, working out the tight knots he found. There were an alarming amount. “Relax, Evie,” he murmured. “Let’s go and get you in the bath, yeah? The warmer you are, the easier this will be.”
Evie nodded, standing up from the chair as she began take off the rest of her clothes. She had no problem being naked around Jacob, they’d patched each other up enough times in various places to not be embarassed about such things. “Sometimes I wish we never came to London. I imagine our lives would be less stressful”
Jacob stood back and let her undress, his eyes following her movements keenly. He bit his bottom lip and extended his hand to her. The bathroom was upstairs and it wouldn't take long for him to heat the water for her.
"Our lives would certainly be quieter," he agreed cautiously. He'd discovered parts of himself during their time in London, and he wouldn't trade that for anything. "I don't know what I'd be doing if we were stuck back in Crawley."
"I'm just gonna wing it."
-Jacob Frye, about something he should definitely not be winging.

“Another round!” The words were slurred, but also spoken enthusiastically - Jacob was drunk and enjoying it immensely. He turned around and grinned widely. “What about you? Can I get you something to drink?”
“No thanks, I’d rather not lose my sense of reason.” She smiled at him and sat down. “I knew I’d find you here, after a gang war goes well you always end up at this bar.”
Jacob gave her a lopsided smile. “If it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it,” he told her, raising his pint in a mock salute. “And that’s your loss, love. This place may look like a shithole, but it’s got the best brew on this side of the Thames.”
Aiden sighed, shaking her head at the drunkenness of the Assassin. “I’m sure you don’t want me singing off pitch, Celtic folk songs. So drinking a pint isn’t on my to do list. But by all means, drink to your hearts delight.”
She rested her elbows off the bar counter and ordered a glass of water. “Maybe another time.”
“Nonsense!” Jacob replied, his smile huge. “I love any kind of folk songs, Celtic or otherwise. The more off-key, the better!”
He took several long gulps of the beer and let out a satisfied sigh. “Ah. Tell me, love - if I brought home a bottle of whiskey, would you share it with me? That way only I’d hear your off-key songs. I wouldn’t want to drink it by myself, you see. That’d just be a waste.”
“Well, first things first. What makes you think I want to go home with you?” She laughed a bit and took a sip of her water. “Perhaps I’m content here?” Of course she was simply teasing him, but he didn’t have to know that. “After all, I did just get here.”
She tapped her chin in thought, but she already had her answer planned out, “Though it would all depend on the quality of this whiskey.”
"Well... We can stay here, then! I just didn't want you to have stage fright - there are quite a bit of people here, and if you plan on singing, I didn't want you to be nervous." Jacob gave her a wink, completely missing the teasing in her words.
"And as for the quality of the whiskey, I would give you nothing but the best." He grinned. "Well, after a few drinks it certainly is."

Jacob took her hands gently in his for a moment before undoing the cuff himself. He gave her a small, shy smile.
“I think, as always, you underestimate yourself.” He took her hands again, marveling at how small and delicate they were when compared to his own. “I think you would make an excellent wife, and any man would be lucky to have you.”
He dropped her hands to rake one of his own through his hair. “I just… I don’t want you to lose him if he makes you happy. You do deserve to be happy, Evie.”
Evie took Jacob’s hands in hers again, smiling at him and shaking her head. “I’m not ready for marriage, and it wouldn’t be fair on Henry to lie to him about wanting to marry him when I just can’t do it. He deserves the best and I wouldn’t be giving it to him” she told Jacob with a sigh, squeezing his fingers and then moving away to start to pull her soaking wet over clothes off as well.
"Don't sell yourself short," Jacob told her. "He isn't stupid - you are the best."

“Marriage?!” The word was torn from his mouth before he could stop it. His guilt gnawed at him - could he really be so selfish as to keep her here when a good, honest, and kind man wanted to make her happy?
“Do you think he would make you happy?” Jacob asked quietly, letting her go and shrugging off his own coat. The vest came next, and then his soaking boots. He dreaded the answer that might come from his twin, and hated himself for wanting to keep her with him.
Jacob knew that of the two of them, she was better. Smarter, more adaptable, and willing to go on any adventure if it yielded a chance for her to learn. Keeping her in London was undeniably selfish, especially when he saw how happy she was when she was around Henry. When she was with him, on the other hand, all she did was gripe. Maybe it would be better for her to go…
He shook his head, not wanting to follow that particular train of thought. “He’s a good man. I’d hate for you to lose him.”
“I think he would make me happy” Evie nodded, fiddling with the cuff of her shirt as she spoke, she couldn’t wait to sink into a nice warm bath for a little while, a luxury that not many people had. “He’s a lovely man, he’s kind and caring and he listens but…”
She didn’t know how to express her thoughts and it frustrated her somewhat, she didn’t want to say the wrong thing.
“I don’t think that I am suited for marriage. It comes with a whole set of responsibilities that I am not ready to have yet, especially not in a whole different part of the world where their customs are so different from here. At least here I know where I stand”
Jacob took her hands gently in his for a moment before undoing the cuff himself. He gave her a small, shy smile.

Her words brought him a relief so intense he could hardly describe it. He went to her and wrapped his arms around her again, kissing the top of her head, despite the fact that her hair was still soaking wet from their dip in the Thames.
“It’s selfish of me, but I’m glad you want to stay,” he whispered hoarsely. His sister was his better half, and if she went to India, what would he do?
‘Probably sit around moping until she came back,’ he realized, squeezing her tightly for a moment.
“I know he makes you happy, but, God - India is so far away.”
Evie couldn’t help but smile at his affection, wrapping her arms around him and hugging him tightly despite how wet they both were. “I’m glad you want me to stay” she then admitted quietly, knowing that she nagged him a lot and got onto him about things, she was surprised that he wanted her to stay this much.
“He makes me happy, yes, but…I don’t know if it’s because he’s the first man to have ever shown me attention like this”
There had been men, boys really, when they were younger who tried to get her attention but that was nothing but them trying to get her to bed them she remembered. This was different.
“He spoke of marriage and I just can’t help but think that this is all happening so quickly”
