CH … … Ahem.
((Thank you! <3 ))
"Happy birthday to Yaz and Feign, wherever they might be."
"Oh, yeah, of course. I’ll let the boys know. Sometimes I think coffee is the only thing keeping us guys alive." A small smile, setting down paperwork to retrieve the coffee with a bow of the head. It seemed Piers knew him better than he knew himself, and had prepared for such.
"So - you two, you’re good friends, I take it?"
"I firmly believe that coffee has the power to help you solve almost any problem. It's not even just about the caffeine. Sometimes, the simple act of brewing or sitting down and drinking it gives you a precious few moments of focussing on something else and that can work wonders, don't you think?"
"Good friends? No, I wouldn't say we're good friends. Somewhere above acquaintances. Enough that he can ask me for a favour and have me agree to it."
"Joesphine, right, okay. He said you’d be visiting, I guess I’ve been too busy to remember. I - Thank you, though, it’s appreciated." Having a rather curvaceous red-head bring him coffee daily probably isn’t going to look good to the rest of the BSAA, but god, he needs something to keep him away.
Is it unusual to see a civilian on the base? Especially one who is quite clearly there for legitimate business reasons. "Hopefully not too busy to sit back, relax, drink your coffee and eat your brownies. Piers is always full of praise for you but I know he thinks that you work too hard sometimes. Mind if I leave a couple of business cards with you? It's always good to pick up a little extra trade and if I'm delivering to you, I may as well be delivering to others, too."
The Hand that Feeds (Munky/Quinn)
Fixing the backpack she held on her back, she reached into her pocket pulling out her wallet. “As good as that sounds, if I could get a cherry pastry and a coffee with caramel squirts added to it. That would be wonderful.” Pulling out her card she set it on the counter, waiting for the woman to ring things up.
Such a simple order, but some places couldn’t do it. Quinn was hoping she could get it here at least. She continued to let her eyes wander around the small little coffee shop with a smile.
Everyone liked their coffee differently and she prided herself upon the fact that she and her staff always did their utmost to ensure the customer received precisely what they desired. Every coffee was made to order, and they did receive some unusual requests. This one wasn't difficult in the least and as the brew filtered and dripped into the waiting cup, she served a pastry onto a plate and set it down on the counter.
"First time in here?" She asked, taking a chance on a guess, and pointed to a sign above her head. "If it's your first visit, the coffee's on the house." It was a bit of a gamble, having a policy like that, because there were people in the world who might attempt to take advantage of the generous offer. But it was a small price to pay in order to give the right sort of impression - that this was a place where the customer came first and every visitor was appreciated. It wasn't simply a business; it was a labour of love.
It takes him a good few moments to stop staring as if this woman is indeed some supernatural being and he summoned her. “I - No. You’re - Uh - Piers sent you, did he?” Briefly he recalls the conversation.
It's always possible that she was summoned by him. Unlikely, but possible. It's probably just down to coincidence that she happened to show up at the very moment he decided he needed a coffee. Probably.
"That's right, though I'm guessing he didn't furnish you with a name? You can call me whatever you like, but most often, I'll answer to Coffee Lady, Miss, or, in exceptional circumstances, Hey You. I'd prefer you either call me by name, however. Josephine, Jo or Munky is fine."
The Hand that Feeds (Munky/Quinn)
Quinn had always been a heavy coffee drinker, it got her through so many days in high school that she practically had it running through her blood now. Though visiting a new city, she never enjoyed that shit that they gave you in the hotels. It was disgusting and just gave coffee a bad name. Even worst a bad taste that took forever to get off your tongue.
So when she finally found a place that looked like it served a good coffee. Including those treats you can get with the coffee. She took the opportunity to go in and give it a shot.
The door opened, and she looked around. Not much to judge a places coffee off how it looks, she moved towards the counter. It seemed slightly dead, okay not slightly. It seemed like even the dead weren’t gonna be coming in.
Oh Well, she didn’t mind the quite. Standing in front of the counter, she waited. Before seeing the woman. “Hi there!” She gave a very friendly smile.
The thing about silence was that you could quickly grow used to it. Unlike many coffee shops, there was no loud, intrusive music blaring out from hidden speakers, just a quiet background hum of some easy listening jazz to permeate the hush. Mellow and laid back, much like the owner and much like the atmosphere she tried to create.
Engrossed in her paperwork, the owner of the coffee shop failed to hear the tinkling of the little bell above the door which signalled the arrival of a customer. Only when she heard a voice did he glance up, surprise registering on her features for a split second before being replaced by a warm, welcoming smile.
"Good morning! Welcome to JoJo's. Bean of the day is Santos, a Brazilian arabica bean, so nice and strong with a full, rich flavour, so perfect for an espresso, but the choice is, of course, yours, so what can I get for you?"
My team is full of manchildren and I am so, so tired. The evening is dragging on, that’s for sure. "Why is the coffee pot empty when you need it -"
This sounds like a job for the coffee fairy. Or the next best thing, anyway. As if on queue, she arrives, fulfilling her promise to supply fresh coffee and has even brought along a portion of bite-sized brownies as a gesture of goodwill.
"Not interrupting, am I?"
The Hand that Feeds (Munky/Quinn)
January was always a quieter month than most. After Christmas and the start of the new year, people were full of resolutions to get fit and healthy and that usually meant cutting back on caffeine and sticky, baked goods, meaning they avoided going out for coffee. Luckily, she knew they'd fall back into bad habits by the middle of February and business would be booming once more.
The quietness didn't perturb her too much. If nothing else, it was a good time to make a few repairs, give the place a little freshening up with a new coat of paint. Section by section, the coffee shop took on new colour, new life, was refreshed and renewed. By the time customers came flooding back through the door, they would barely recognise the place.
The guys she'd contracted to touch up the paintwork would be starting later in the day, but that was okay because she had someone else coming to measure up for some new flooring. That would take a chunk out of her savings, but worth it. There was nothing worse, in her opinion, than the place looking shabby. While she waited for him to come in, she busied herself with some essential paperwork and minded the counter, ready to serve any customers who happened to come in.
Mistressofthebean is a beautiful, witty, and memorable OC, and is also a great writer. Seriously, you guys! I actually think it’s a shame she stopped playing Renolicious ;3;
Awww, Silke! Thank you. <3

"They used to call me the Fairy Coffee Mother due to my ability to conjure up a mug of steaming, fresh coffee out of thin air. But that only works if you believe in magic. I brought some with me, just in case you didn't."
"May the beans be with you..."
