I question id like to ask to anyone who reads this book is if it was worth it in the end. Was it worth the millions of lives to a achieve world peace? It all comes down to looking at it from all perspectives. From a long term perspective it might look a little differently. While millions died in the accident, millions more might be able to live in the future as time goes on. I like to think of this situation as an allegory for nuclear weapons. That old question on whether or not nukes are worth it is still brought up today. Nuclear weapons are capable of destroying humanity, and yet the have not only ended a war, but potentially prevented many others. Its a difficult question to answer. Could tragedy ultimately be worth it in the end?
