He doesn't know why he's here, he doesn't know why he's snuck into this course - oh wait, there we go, that's right. The cute brunette with the scarf. Tony leans back on the chair, a hand on his morning coffee, the other spinning his pen.
Material Selection - of all the courses. How boring.
He looks down at his 'notes' before rolling his eyes and closing the notebook.
v = (E/p)^0.5 or logE = logp + 2logv
E = S/r_o
K = (EG)^0.5 where K >= (2E*gamma)^0.5
K_ic,min /E = (r_0/20)^0.5
d_gamma = K_ic^2 / pi*sigma_f^2
This Fucker.
"What was it? It was a Friday night. There was a huge party at some guy’s apartment back when we were at MIT. I didn’t know Tony personally before then, only heard about him; how he had this reputation of being something of a boy genius, and I guess that was true. Heard once, something about jailbait, but at the time, I brushed it off. When you hear things, word of mouth, the story starts to change, so maybe someone said something and it got misconstrued, whatever it was, I didn’t pay much attention to it.
Anyway, so I’m at this party and in comes Tony, already an entourage kind of hanging around him and he heads straight for the booze, paying no one else any mind. The air about this guy, alone. Whatever conversation I was having with, crap, I can’t remember his name… well, it picks up and I kind of forget that Tony’s there. Until I go to refresh my drink.
This fucker is sitting on the counter, in the kitchen that they’ve dubbed ‘The Bar’, and he’s talking with Matt, the host, and a few other people who are just hanging off his every word. I feel like, hey, if I ask for a refill, I’m bothering them.
But Matt notices me approach and claps me on the shoulder ‘Jim, what is up man, glad you could come’ kind of thing, and at that point, I manage to actually get a good look at Tony.
Scrawny, brunette, sleepy-eyed, though I think that was because he’d had a few drinks, but what I think I noticed the most was how young Tony was. I mean, of course he was, MIT Wonderkid.”
“First time I saw Rhodey? Well, actually he was a pretty familiar face, not a lot of guys like him around campus – and in my faculty you know. Guess though, first time I met him was at some guy’s party – I forget his name, something along the lines of Marcus? Mark? I don’t know, something starting with an M – it’s not important.
So, you know, underage then, but really how many seventeen year old kids didn’t drink? Right? I thought so – so there I am, minding my own business, doing what I do, livening the party up, and I may or may not have been attempting to get the attention of some really cute blonde from psychology.
It wouldn’t have been hard you know – or at least I figured, I was – am a popular guy, and it doesn’t help that genetics and charm are part of the Stark-appeal. And there he is, letterman jacket and everything, it was kind of cute. Suppose that’s what they all did, really – guys in his club.
But, not important, there was free booze and a hot girl. So there I am, sitting on the bench, a cup in my hand, arm slung around the girl, talking about –I don’t even fucking know, half those guys don’t even understand what I’m saying, and then I get introduced to the Rhodester. And you know what the first thing I say is? And god, I’m an idiot.
I say – Stark, friends call me Tony, but you may refer to me as god.
And the look on his face, god, I was being such an idiot.”

"And here I felt a little guilty about leavin’ you."
"Clara with the legs, right. So Cathy, we’ll go with Cathy. Y’know, physics major. Blonde."
"As you should -- guilt should be your natural state when you leave me, sort of. We were both uh, busy I guess."
"Oh yeah, Cathy, Quantum Cathy."
"And what kind of guy goes to his friend’s room at 7:10 to complain about it?"
"Girl isn’t a keeper."
"Kind who knows there’s at least a fifty percent chance said friend ain’t slept yet."
"I think y’might be overestimating my dedication to this brief relationship with, uh — Cathy? Clara. Her."
"You want me to pull up a list of girls names starting with C? Might make it easier for you."
"Actually I think I was with Clara last night — she’s the uh, the foreign exchange right? Clara with the legs?."
Compressible Flow -- That Other Lecture I'm Not Supposed To Go To
Introductory Notes:
Flow speed << sound speed -- if this isn't the case, the fluid is compressible.
The faster the fluid flows, the greater the potential interactions there are to compress the fluid
Liquids: compressible flow is rare and requires high pressure
Gases: compressible flow is common, sonic flow and air pressure ratios are 2
Compressible Flow:
Compressible flow has extra variables density and temperature and make use of the equation of state and conservation energy
Bernoulli's is no longer applicable
Mach = M = flow speed/sound speed = V / a -- this is a good indicator of compressibility as a mach number less than 0.3 means that it is incompressible
Anything above: subsonic, transonic, supersonic and hypersonic
The Speed of Sound:
Rate of propagation wave infinitesimal strength
pressure under pulse with frame of reference moving with discontinuity = steady flow allows application of steady vontrol volume equations
Continuity: delta_V = C/rho * delta_rho
Momentum: delta_V = 1/(rho*C)*delta_rho
Equating the above gives: C^2 = delta_P/delta_rho
As wave becomes infinitesimally small, weak process approaches icentropic and aa^2 = dP/drho
M indicator of compressibility -- nearly incompressible flow and pressure change due to stagnating flow
Delta_P = P_o - P_inf + rho*V^2/2
M = V/a = sqrt(V^2 / dp/drho) - sqrt(2delta_rho/p)
P = rho*R*T ; R = Ru/M_gas
Cv and Cp are both constant at a reasonable temperature range (<1000K)
Cv = R / k-1
Cp = kR / k-1
Calorically perfect gas: s2 - s2 = Cp*ln(T2/T1) - R*ln(P2/P1)
Cp/R = k/k-1
Combination of gas laws: P2/P1 = (rho2/rho1)^k or p = pi/rho1^k * rho*k = constant rho^k
a = sqrt(kRT)
"What kind of girl kicks you out of her room without even offering coffee? I can’t feel my brain. She woke me at seven."
"And what kind of guy goes to his friend's room at 7:10 to complain about it?"
"Girl isn't a keeper."
The double pendulum delivers an insight to nonlinear dynamics and complicated motions. This mechanical device involves two pendulum bars linked together that exhibit chaotic motion when forced from equilibrium.
Chaotic motion theory has three primary features:
1. It is deterministic: It can be modelled mathematically involving formulas with no random element involved. Whilst this is the case, it is impossible to distinguish random process.
2. Highly sensitive to initial conditions: More commonly known as the ‘butterfly effect’, systems involving chaos theory will result in widely different results after infinitesimally small changes to its initial conditions.
3. Unpredictable and unrepeatable: Relating to the above two features; no two experiments will have the same results due to the hypersensitivity and variations involved in the initial conditions.

Chaos - Here we have two rigid linkages with an attached point mass. Now, chaotic motion - chaos theory - involves studying the behaviour of dynamic systems that are unbelievably sensitive to their initial conditions. In the case above, the slightest degree off will result in an entirely different result, the motions will be different and this is in fact practically impossible to determine - it’s unpredictable, it’s chaos theory, or as others call it the butterfly effect.
"I think you mean rugged-good looks and wit and charm there."
"Did I? I mean — of course I did. Sure. Gotta keep that ego inflated.”
"Someone has to, guess since you hang around me so much the responsibility naturally falls into your hands."
-
"Yeah, ‘cause you buy me coffee. Maybe I’m just a fan of your pretty-boy face."
"I think you mean rugged-good looks and wit and charm there."
"Focusing, I’m…focusing."
:”I didn’t say anything at all.”
"No but- you're - I'm....not focusing at all."
"Well, it doesn’t sound all too invigorating I’ll admit. And really, the day you refuse? I’m going to think that the old man paid you off to stop hanging around me."
"You know me. I’d take the money and keep on hanging out with your sorry ass anyway. For some reason.
Wait, why am I hanging out with you again?”
"Oh, ouch that’s a stinger. But hey, let’s face it Barton, you’re attached. Unbelievably so, because really, admit it - I’m your favourite."
"Ruined it. Here I thought I was going so well - okay, maybe you’re right. Maybe, let’s say you are. Are you going to help distract me? It’s? It’s boring alright?"
"As if I’d ever refuse an offer like that. Besides, learning how to side carpals is getting seriously dull."
"Well, it doesn't sound all too invigorating I'll admit. And really, the day you refuse? I'm going to think that the old man paid you off to stop hanging around me."
"Focusing, I’m…focusing."
"There’s nothing less convincing than a guy repeatedly saying out loud that he’s ‘focusing’. Admit it, you have no idea what you’ve even been readin’."
"Ruined it. Here I thought I was going so well - okay, maybe you're right. Maybe, let's say you are. Are you going to help distract me? It's? It's boring alright?"
"Focusing, I'm...focusing."
"I could possibly do it in a line of code but that’d possibly make it all the more confusing."
"C’mon, coffee break. I managed to get my code working for 9500 it’s a new record. I need to celebrate, caffeinate, recharge - whatever you’d like to call it."
"None of your devil speak. I find y’hard enough to understand as it is.
"Alright, alright. Far be it from me to prevent you from feedin’ your unhealthy addiction to caffeine."
"Nearly everyone does Barton. Don’t take it too personally. I am you know, the grandmaster."
"Let’s go, my shout."
