Just working on a prototype about how people work with an AI collaborator in a Mixed reality context~
The bubbles represent the team member’s opinions and ideas. The AI collaborator does not have entity and its opinion bubbles represent the AI itself.

So how does my thesis could be applied on to the real world outside the program? My thesis encourages designers, developers and makers in the alternative reality field to explore more about the forms of mixed reality and the collective experience with considering the participation of different people, crowd and communities, no matter they are social media lover, academic experts, gamers or housewife. The connection between totally different kinds group of people intrigues interesting interaction.
From the social dynamic aspect, my thesis reminds us that interaction can happen outside of the virtual world in a tangible way when immersing in alternative reality. The easy way to explain this sentence is you search Pokemon through your cellphone and see someone else is apparently doing the same thing, you start a conversation and ask for his or her number. This alternative reality technology gives us a new way to create different kinds of connection.
The implication embedded in the people/avatar/the symbol of self reveals decent amount of private information. Why I said decent amount of private information? As you know, people tend to express emotions/ display identity/ indicate status on social media, but doing this is conflict with their tendency of being conservative and wanting to keep privacy so that they won’t completely expose themselves. They do want to share something but not to share everything. Sharing makes connection to others, that’s the reason why there are so many different forms of social media exist. With the Mixed reality and mixed crowd experience, the physical space become whole new social media platform, we could create new ways of posting stuff online. Such as if you are driving, your avatar will have a driving pose.
The appearance, the moving pattern, the special effects of Your virtual self may indicate you are in the traffic; or you are busy with running between places, or you have been sitting in a meeting for centuries, or you are drinking beer watching the final sports game, but it doesn’t have to reveal your identity, your nationality, your gender. When people in a similar situation, scenario and environment, a specific community forms, no matter how long it lasts. The technology of alternative reality breaks the limit of geographic location, allow us to be in the community immediately in a more tangible way, compare to browsing social media on website or through your mobile app.
What’s more, the community could be very flexible, it doesn’t matter if it just last for a sport game, it doesn’t matter who these people really are, as long as you can share your emotion and your current experience with them at the moment.

I started to experimenting with HoloLens. I put the simulation I had into HoloLens so that people can actually experience it and give me feedback, which is important since the study of simulation outside the system somehow lacks the participation of audiences. Prototyping these experience breaks the limitation of simulation software and helps me push my thesis forward.
