9 everyday behaviors that make you look dumber than you really are
Being a mom. Being a parent.
Twice I have been without income and not once have I ever thought of taking my last rands and drive to Pretoria to apply for maintenance. Some friends reckon I have pride. And now that I think of it...yes I do have pride. I have pride in providing for my beautiful daughters. I have pride in seeing them grow up to be intelligent beings.Ā
I believe had I chosen the latter I would totally miss out on some of these precious moments. Even struggling with and for them is fulfilling for me. So yes I am proud to say I work damn hard to provide for my kids and will not waste any second reminding someone of their responsibility. Being a parent is not an obligation to me but a privilege. And I shall not waste any breathe convincing someone otherwise.
This note is definitely dedicated to my beautiful girls, for without them I would be lost. Without them I wouldnāt be where I am today. I strive to be a better person because I want them to be proud to call meĀ āMomā. These gorgeous daughters of mine remain my biggest achievement.

Humility. A must have quality.
At the beginning of the year...I did not make any resolutions / goals. This was not because I wasnāt ambitious or anything like that. It was because I could feel my life turning a turn for the worst. I was about to loose my accommodation.Ā
Those who have been there know itās not easy. Accommodation doesnāt just provide a roof over oneās head but provides some dignity. Whatever happen in those four walls remain there...and now I was about to loose this. It felt heavy, when I lost the car the pain wasnāt as bad. I then prayed to my Heavenly Father to help me cultivate humility. I let go and let HIM. Meaning wherever he led me I was so to follow and be an obedient subject. This is not easy, besides my imperfect inclination thereās society that makes you feel being humble is sign of weakness. And seeing friends carrying on and achieving their goals when I wasnāt sure what tomorrow holds for me was hard. Now and then I had to pause and remember that I am on a different paths to theirs. The noises in my head got to much and I left the social media. I did so in order to focus on my journey.
Fast forward to present. I have been blessed with a job. I will be honest itās not what I hoped for, but I learned that this is from my Heavenly Father. I have learned to start all over again. Forget my almost 20 years working experience and let humility be at play. Humility enables me to pick myself up from that dark place called lack of confidence. Learn new ropes and takes each day as it comes. Itās not easy but I am giving it my best shot.

A thin line between love and love
There is a thin line between love and love. This is mainly parental love. As a parent I know how much I love my kids. How we always claim to go to ends of the world for our kids. But is this enough to raise responsible future leaders?
Yes love is a beautiful thing and children growing up in loving homes tend to soar in life. But love only is not enough, I believe love should go hand in hand with values. To equip them for the future.Ā
Late last month Bobbi Kristina passed away. And my reaction was sheās better off dead than live without her mom. See thing is as much as nothing is guaranteed in lifeā¦death is certainly is. So when loving our children do we ensure that should something happen to us they survive? Loving them should entail letting them go at times and not keeping them under wings so much. Truth be told we donāt live longer. We die young.Ā
We need to be careful that our love as parents is not toxic. But a healthy love that shields where it should and let go when need to. We are fortunate in that we bring up such intelligent generation, but this should be limited to gadgets only. We owe it to give our children basic life skills.Ā
This I believe is the difference between love and love from a parentās perspective.

One of my favorite song is by Kerri Hilson, knock you down. Although the song refers to love, I like to change it to life. For it is true life can sometimes knock you down. And as long as you breathe you need to get right up and move on. Try and try and try again.Ā
My life journey has taught me that no matter how hard it knocks you down, staying down is not an option. For staying down might mean being trampled over by other people pursuing their dreams, and if you not careful you will be forced to assist them building those dreams.Ā
Yes itās not easy. When going through trials, even getting up in the morning is a mission. But you do anyway...and it is in this very moment you need to affirm to yourself and your dreams that itās not over. The fact that you opened your eyes in the morning is a blessing in itself. Counting blessings is one of the ways to focus on what one has than what you donāt have.
Marianne Williamson said:Ā Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. This stems from surrounding ourselves with wrong people, people with baggage and are in need of companions. We are not born with fear. We develop fear along the way which in turn make us doubt ourselves. This is the very same reason why affirmation is very important. Every morning you need to look yourself in the mirror and say I amĀ brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous. I am unique. Thereās no one like me. And no one will do a great job of being me than me.
As I am typing this I realise thatĀ āābeing under constructionāis a journey not a destination. That every day I should strive to be a better Mpho than I was yesterday.
Light
I would like to believe that we are all born with light, a spark within us. But somehow let our circumstances dim this light instead of ensuring it shines brighter. And once it's dim, darkness surround us and the truth is nothing positive comes out of darkness. We become bitter beings. Forgetting that we were created to be dependable. For when my light gets weaker I can get the person next to me to light mine and together our lights shine brighter. This is not a literal light! It's compliments, helping each other through this journey called life.
Powerful!
What is giving up?
It is true what they say words are powerful, very powerful. So then what is giving up? Giving up is normally associated with negativity, hanging in the towel it is sad. But what if giving up means leaving that path and starting all over on a different one? Will it still be considered cowardness?
There's this saying I love very much:
As you are falling, don't try to save yourself: just fall. You will find there's a springboard waiting for you. Don't fight reality, accept it. Only then you can change it.
The above saying means giving up simply means affording one the chance to rise again. Rise is an opposite of fall, hence it is impossible to rise again if you have not fallen. Thus letting go, giving up shouldn't be considered negatively it simply means leaving the course / path that no longer works for you and starting a new one. Starting on a clean slate, with no baggage. Truth is starting a new journey with baggage isn't fulfilling as besides the weight carried there will always be doubts, making it difficult to take a step.
Lesson learnt:
When everything is sad and done. Release the clutches, the load, the baggage usually associated with doubts and fears. Fall down in order to rise again. Life is an adventure waiting to be explored only by those taking risks, those falling and rising up over and over again. This applies to relationships, careers and so forth.
Yes I have fallen and will rise again, and again!!!
16 days into 2015
I have watched with interest the excitement of the new year in social media, but one particular one caught my attention. And that is claiming 2015 to be 20fit-in. I tried and tried to disseminate this as to what could have given birth to such claim. Especially being a South African, belonging to a diversified nation. Why would people want to fit in?
As a mother of two beautiful girls, I try and raise them to be global citizens and I think this will afford them an opportunity to be broad-minded if there's such a word. This means that they should learn to tolerate other cultures and develop interest in their way of thinking, living and so on. Hence I do have a problem with fit-in. Where would they aspire to fit-in in 2015? To a small number of people who are confined in their own little space? No ways! I refuse for this to happen to either me or my daughters.
The values I instill in them and the opportunities presented to them should be enough to want them to fly, to soar to have curious minds, accept differences in other people and grow. A person confined to a "space" is unable to grow.
So am much as I haven't been creative enough to come up with a slogan for 2015, I will stick to growth.

So today I finally mustered up the courage to share my company with friends. It's been a long time coming, but just like with embarking on a new journey or an unknown territory it has not been easy.Ā
Then I used the Global Entrepreneurship Week as a benchmark. I introduced it on Facebook. And the response in an hour has been overwhelming. I am armed with passion and dedication to making my company work. I know it's not going to be easy but I know one day I will look back and appreciate the fact that I took this first step.
The race
Life is a journey. It's a marathon. When you stop running you get hit either by other runners or things in our surroundings.
However, what is important is understanding your race. The mindset you have to keep in order to survive the up hills, make it through the steep. Most of the marathon ( I mean, real marathon) runners will tell you that physical preparation is important. But what is even more important is psychological preparation which ensures reaching the finish line.
But life is different our race does not stop, it takes pause here and then but never stops. I believe you only stop running in life when you die. But during the race we're able to take a break and pace ourselves according to our strength. Meaning not looking as to how far our opponent is either behind us or in front of us. For what makes us unique is the fact that each one of us know what pace we can run in. Focusing on either long or short term goals, taking a water break (acknowledging our achievements along the way) and carrying on with this wonderful journey.
Yes it has it's challenges, we might get knocked down (and probably use this time to exhale a bit) but we need to get up and carry on. To avoid being stagnant but grow from each mile or kilometer we get through.
Motivation
"The doctor never cures himself" is so true when considering motivation. I think that is why motivational speakers always seem on top of their game. It is so easy to motivate the next person and quite a challenge to do the same for you. As human beings we are created with the need to succeed, to be better today than we were yesterday. We have dreams we want to reach but somehow they seem unattainable. This is why a person who is not successful can assist the next to be successful. For it becomes easier to talk than to act. For action requires that....action. That is why there's a saying: "talk is cheap". What then? Could this be an obstruction that prevent us from reaching our goals? The truth is we cannot all be motivational speakers. But we all have aspirations and dreams we want to achieve. This hurdle can be overcome by treating ourselves as both the motivator and the audience. Put yourself in yourself's shoes. To break down those barriers what advice would you give yourself? The challenges you are facing, if they were faced by a friend how would you go about motivating them to reach them? See, it's not easy but I think it is achievable. Only by making ourselves a priority too in life. By having a daily heart to heart with ourselves. This way we face our fears and rejoice over triumphs. Easy come, easy go! Looking at yourself in the mirror and having a heart to heart with yourself is not easy. But I believe it's worth investing in. This journey is full of discoveries. Let's enjoy the ride.
