Honestly never understood why Axel was usually labeled by the fandom as one of the “masculine girls” alongside Eva and Jo. Yeah, she’s assertive and strong, but those aren’t. exclusively masculine traits. I’m not saying she’s particularly feminine, either. It’s more that she doesn’t really lean in either direction.

Actually, going further, why is Eva considered masculine? It’s been a while since I’ve seen any of gen 1, but from what I recall Eva is also just, like, strong and aggressive. not overtly masc. and the fact that she’s not conventionally attractive probably contributes to fandom perception. I feel like Jo is the only one who’s a bit more confusing surrounding the topic since she has a more complicated relationship with femininity in canon from what I remember, so for her it isn’t quite the same case as assigning gender to base personality traits.

Anyways, it just seems weird to me how the fandom categorizes those three characters. Feels like some people need to ask themselves, “Is this character really masculine, or am I just unable to attribute these entirely gender-neutral traits to anyone who isn’t a guy?” I do get that it has to do with societal perception on how women are “supposed” to act, but it’s still important to be self-aware about.
