The main plot line focuses on a presidential election happening in a small island country, currently ruled by a King (but they felt like it's time for democracy). One of the candidates is Eufrat Halves, who was one of the people that came up with the idea for a system change.
Unfortunate circumstances cause our man Eufrat to go through a little mental breakdown, which makes him doubt whether he's the right man for this kind of position. A close coworker of his, Adam Vasilowicz (or Vasilovich, I spell it both ways), takes advantage of that fact and starts thinking if there's some way to manipulate Eufrat into stepping down and appointing Adam as the substitute candidate. But before he can go through with that, Adam has to make sure he's got a thight grip on this country's throat.
You see what many people don't realize is that Adam is hella evil. Not only because he's manipulating Eufrat (and other poeple) but he's also involved, with the dirty criminals that run this city from the shadows. He works closely with a man named Michael Wave (yep) [picture of Mike at the bottom] and the two of them plot against the big man at the top of the bottom: Martin Rodgers. Michael worked closely with Rodgers for years (and owes a lot of what he's got to him) but Adam convinced him to betray his boss.
Adam brings over to the island lots of thugs, guns (he has "connections") (lived a crazy life before he even came to this island) and drugs that he starts distributing locally, just to fuck with Martins monopoly. Takes a while before Martin figures out who it was, that decided to make his life worse, but before he can do any serious damage to the two co-conspirators, Martin kicks the bucket. Tragically and accidentally busts his head open on an icy stairs (or maybe he was pushed ? haha i dont know...)
Martin had an adoptive son named Francis. After his death, Martin's company (legal) and all his legacy (illegal) was supposed to be transferred to Francis. However Adam, of course, couldn't let an opportunity like this pass him by and convinced the poor mourning Francis to make a deal. Details of which I'll omit rn but what's essential is that Adam gets the company and can do all his illegal biddings in peace, while Francis gets an illusion of owning anything (crumbs, some of Martins people and bussinesses, nothing of actual worth in this situation). Ofc Francis realizes too late that he's been fucked over.
Now, back to Eufrat, who at this point is still technically in the presidential race, but his heart's not in it. Another tragedy strikes as his dear mother dies. Eufrat is doing bad, he's attempting to take his own life. The attempt sends him to a hospital, and while in there he's having a conversation with Adam, his only friend, and says it's probably for the best, to have Adam run for president (success!?).
Time passes, Adam's doing great, everyone else not so much. It seems that mr Vasilowicz actually won over the hearts of voters and is heading for the undoubtable win.
Eufrat actually had another, actual, very good friend, Ettore. They knew each other for years and their friendship only started deteriorating recently, due to Eufrat's untreatable alcoholism and many bad decisions (like, example above, appointing Adam as his replacement). Ettore is actually THE KING, of the whole island, and as much as he doesn't fully enjoy this position (wasn't really his choice) and was in full support of the system change, he cannot stand to see a man like Adam, become the president.
Ettore knows what kind of evil deceiver that guy actually is, but, despite all his power, can't get rid of him (he doesn't have absolute power and everyone thinks he's just crazy and hates Adam bc that guys is replacing him, basically). That is, until Francis comes to ask him for help, in doing exactly that. Francis is able to provide the witnesses (that won't be bribed over by Adam) and whatever proof they need to bring that guy down, that is of course, if Ettore agrees grants him protection (because let's be honest they definitely putting Francis and all his guys in jail too after that).
So, while those two guys are preparing for all that, the election day comes, Adam wins. Gets immediately prosecuted. It takes few court sittings but eventually Adam realizes this is a lost case. He's been biting back but seems like it's time to dip before things get bad. Before they, god forbid, put him in custody. And so he runs away like the coward he is and that's the last that anyone's seen this guy.

Extra guys: I only mentioned Mike in the text but I draw these guys a lot lately so you should at least know who they are. These all are or were gangsters:
Randall - worked for Martin (how the hell do you spell showfer), then works for Francis, they're actually pretty good buddies.
Michael - worked for Martin, worked for Adam, didn't get much of a chance to work for Francis bc he decided to quit. He's main job was an attorney type thing (aka get em out of jail free card for all Martins thugs)
Aldona - used to work for Martin back in the day, quit and started working for Eufrat (as a secretary), you'd think she'd be spying on him or something but she was actually trying to quit the life of crime. But still hangs out with these thugs occasionally. Also her and Mike are like, dating.
Boris - Martin's top guy. Was doing all types of dirty work. Also decided to quit around the time Francis took over. A good friend of Randall's. (i thought i draw him a lot but somehow didn't have a better picture than this old one)
