I found this brief to be really fun and exciting to get creative and really weird. I liked using the bandana to cover and obscure the subjects face. I am really happy with some of the results from this shoot.

Rush Hour Sequence
During the editing class, I realised that using only the subway pictures which I captured people coming up the stairs with my in camera flash worked on its own. There wasn't a need to put any other images into the sequence as this gave it more fluidity. I tried to create some repetition through my sequence with the puffer jackets in images 3&4, and the more front facing angle in 2&5.
Structure evaluation
1. What was the project theme and what did you think of it?
For this project, we had to create 5 architectural images of both 3 exterior and 2 interiors. One of the exterior images had to be of the full building and had to be perspective corrected. I was quite nervous to start the project as this was a genre of photography I had never investigated before.
2. What part of the project did you enjoy the most/found most
interesting (making the photographs? Optimising images? printing?)
Personally, I enjoyed optimising my images the most as this is when I found that they really came to life. Especially my interior images as I chose to compose them.
3. What new techniques have you experienced?
I learned all about perspective in architectural photography and how to control and correct it when taking these images.
4. What technique would you like to develop further?
I would like to develop my knowledge and skills as a whole of this genre of photography as I don’t feel that I got very creative with the project because it was so new to me.
5. What do you feel is the most successful part of your project and why?
I feel that my exterior detail shots are probably the most successful part of my project as I think they look visually appealing and have the dramatic look that I aimed to achieve.
6. Did you encounter any problems in your project?
When I shot my images, it was quite overcast so I don’t feel that there was as much initial contrast in my raw images as I would have liked to begin with. However, this was the only free day I had to shoot images for my project, so I had to work with what I had.
7. How did you learn from them and how did they affect your final images?
I have learned to wait for a brighter day with more direct sunlight to create more contrast on the building. Overall, I don’t feel that it impacted them too much once I brought the contrast up when editing.
8. What would you do differently given the chance to complete the project
again?
If I was to do this project again I would like to set myself more time to get inspired and more creative with my imagery and plan ahead with weather.

Architecture contact sheets
Architecture Plan
For my architecture brief, I will be taking images of the college building. I plan to present my images in black and white with lots of contrast to make the building look stark and intimidating. I think this will fit the industrial style exterior of the building. It will also fit my own personal feelings of going to college sometimes, with the big industrial looking building crowded with so many people can sometimes feel threatening and intimidating. For the interior shots I will capture different classroom environments to show how the inside of the building differs in ways to the outside, with classrooms feeling more welcoming and inviting. When capturing the inside of the building it will be important to composite many different exposures to get the white balance right of multiple light sources within classrooms.
I will be using a canon 6D with a zoom lens for exterior detail shots. For the overall wide shot of the building and the interior shots I will use a wide-angle lens. I will also be using a tripod.
Moving Image Evaluation
1. What was the project theme and what did you think of it?
For this brief, we were asked to create a 90-second-long video of anything we like. The video had to include different camera movements and compositions that we had researched prior to filming our videos. Personally, I found this brief to be challenging, in terms of thinking up what type of video I wanted to create.
2. What part of the project did you enjoy the most/found most
Interesting?
I found sequencing my video to be the most interesting part, seeing the video come together was rewarding.
3. What new techniques have you experienced?
This was the first time I had used my camera to take a video rather than a photograph, so the whole brief from start to finish was a new experience to me, learning about the 180 rule when capturing my video to sequencing it using iMovie.
4. What technique would you like to develop further?
I would like to practice making my own video sequences more, as I found it to be interesting. However, I don’t feel that my final video was that great as it was my first time.
11. What would you do differently given the chance to complete the project
again?
If I had to do this project again, I would borrow one of the colleges 6D cameras. I used my own canon 2000D to film my video and the quality wasn’t great when I had to use higher ISOs. If I had to use the 6D it would be able to manage working at a high ISO setting much better. I would also try and get more creative with composition and camera movements. However, since it was my first time I was just trying to get used to these new techniques.
12. Discuss any technical issues with your final video?
In some parts of the video, it was quite grainy and poor quality due to working with high ISO settings, I could have fixed this by bringing in an extra light source or like I said, working with a better camera than my own. However, for my first ever attempt at creating a video I think it wasn’t too bad.
Moving Image Plan and Contact Sheets
For the moving image brief, I have decided to create an advert for nikes Air Force 1 trainers. I want to advertise the trainers as trainers ‘for everyday’. I am going to do this by having my boyfriend wearing the trainers in many shots doing things such as going a run and on a date. I have decided to have my boyfriend feature in this advert and try to utilise camera movements such as tracking panning and zooming. Below are my contact sheets.
Research task
Moving Image Research Task
Camera movements
DOLLY ZOOM
This camera movement is achieved by dollying the camera towards or a way from a subject whilst zooming the lens in the opposite direction. This movement is often used to portray conflict or supernatural force. It is often used in horror, thriller, and action films as it creates a sense of unease.
PANNING
This camera movement is when the camera is moved horizontally, left to right or right to left. It is mostly achieved using a tripod and can be used to reveal new information to the audience. When done with speed this movement becomes a whip pan and can be used to add energy within the scene.
TILT
Camera tilts are the same as the panning movement only they are vertical instead of horizontal. Camera tilts are often used to give a character dominance or again used to reveal new information to the audience like the panning movement.
TRACKING
A tracking shot is a movement that involves the camera moving through a scene for an extended amount of time. They are often used to follow a subject to build tension or show the subject moving with a purpose.
PULL FOCUS
This camera movement is when the focus is changed within a continuous shot. It moves the focus from one subject to another. It can be used to bring attention to certain details, transition between scenes and reveal something that was hidden in the scene.
Compositional techniques
LONG FOCAL LENGTH
A long focal length Is mostly used to create a shallow depth of field and isolate a subject within a scene.
STANDARD FOCAL LENGTH
A standard focal length may be used to make a scene look more natural and realistic to how the human eye would see the scene.
WIDE FOCAL LENGTH
This focal length is mostly used when the environment is important to the shot and is used to bring attention to the space around the subject.
BIRDS EYE VIEW
This viewpoint is shot from above your subject looking down on them, often with some of the scene included around them. These shots can create a sense of scale within your scene.
EYE LEVEL VIEWPOINT
This viewpoint includes having your subject at eye level with the camera and is often used to engage the subject with the audience in a natural way.
LOW VIEWPOINT
This viewpoint is mostly used to give a subject more dominance or make them appear more intimidating. It is shot from below the subject looking up at them.

These are my 5 images that I have sent away to be printed. I have used deadly digital for my prints and have went for a matte finish as I think this will add to the grittier feel my images already hold. I decided to choose these images as technically I think they are my strongest and creatively I wanted to show a variety of people and a diversity in what they have bought and how they appear. Overall, I am pleased with my selection and looking forward to seeing them printed.
These are my final ten images all resized to A3 and have now been submitted to Moodle.
This is the location where I shot all my images, there is an alley beside the store where I had my subjects step into the alley to achieve the open shade lighting.
GRADED UNIT UPDATE
Had a slight bump in the road today as deadly digital emailed me to say that my images were low quality, this is because I made my diptychs using bridge then had to convert the files from pdfs using adobe acrobat which I'm assuming brought the quality down. To resolve this issue I remade all ten diptychs using photoshop instead of bridge and resent them to be printed.
