I AM BACK
Hi followers! First off, I’m sorry for being MIA for awhile. Some of you may remember (other new followers may have no clue) that I was pregnant. Well, little man arrived June 9 and my world is infinitely better because of him. Anyhow, thank you all for continuing to follow during this period! Now that we are more settled in as parents, I plan to carve out some time for writing.
In other news, I did get my butt back to my MMA gym in late summer! Boy, what a transition that was! At first, I was a little discouraged. I dropped the pregnancy weight before getting back into the gym but thin does not equal healthy. I went from being in top physical form to-well- weak. I went from banging out 50 push-ups in a row to barely being able to do 10. Don’t even get me started on my lifting maxes!
Well, it’s been about a month and a half and I can definitely feel the progress. I feel stronger, healthier, and all my Muay Thai skills are coming back. I haven’t taken any jitz yet. I need a little more of a push to get back into that. Many more women are taking jitz now though, which is super exciting and should make that transition more manageable.
Well, that’s it for now! Balancing everything I used to do, including getting to the gym, is much more challenging with a kid but it’s all about priorities. I don’t go as often as I used to, but I make the most of my time when I’m there.
Rest in peace Dr. Angelou. You've touched and inspired many, including countless Wake Forest alum first hand. Thank you.
Mark Cuban called the recent comments about blacks purportedly made by Donald Sterling “abhorrent.”
The Dallas Mavericks owner even went as far as to say of his Clippers counterpart: “He’s obviously racist, he’s obviously bigoted.” But, Cuban said, even those kinds of people are allowed to own NBA teams in this country.
So, therefore, Sterling should not be forced out of the league. “In this country, people are allowed to be morons,” Cuban said Monday night in Dallas’ locker room before Game 4 of the Mavericks’ playoff series against San Antonio.
"They’re allowed to be stupid. They’re allowed to think idiotic thoughts …. Within an organization like the NBA, we try to do what’s in the best interest of the league and that’s why we have a commissioner and a constitution and I think Adam [Silver] will be smart and deal with Donald with the full extent available.
"But, again, if you’re saying a blanket, ‘Let’s kick him out?’ I don’t want to go that far because it’s not about Donald, it’s not about his position, it’s about his mess — and what are we going to make a decision on?"
Cuban made it clear that he thought the NBA would be better off without Sterling as an owner, but he also said it would be a “very slippery slope” if the league started forcing owners to sell based on comments made in private.
"In no uncertain terms am I supporting what Donald Sterling said, or his position," Cuban said. "He’s obviously racist, he’s obviously bigoted. And in this day and age when you’re in the public eye you’ve got to be damn careful — if that’s your position and that’s unfortunately where you’re at — you better be damn careful what you say, even in the privacy of your own home.
"But regardless of your background, regardless of the history they have, if we’re taking something somebody said in their home and we’re trying to turn it into something that leads to you being forced to divest property in any way, shape or form, that’s not the United States of America. I don’t want to be part of that."
Mark Cuban on Donald Sterling: ‘People are allowed to be morons’
Cuban conveyed different sentiments today on twitter. @mcuban: I agree 100% with Commissioner Silvers findings and the actions taken against Donald Sterling
Umm-did Jones watch the same fight everyone else watched? Talk about losing respect for someone.
If MMA Doesn’t Change, Someone Is Going To Die
No one needed to see Marlon Moraes continue beating on Josh Rettinghouse. Moraes had outclassed his opponent in every facet of the game for 15 minutes, piling on abuse and bludgeoning his lead leg. Rettinghouse could barely support his own weight, let alone continue to defend himself, and as he hobbled back to his corner at the end of the third round, you could only hope that someone would stop this. As anyone watching Marlon Moraes fight Josh Rettinghouse on a World Series of Fighting card would know, though, that just wasn’t going to happen.
Rettinghouse got off his stool and answered the bell for the fourth round. No one stopped him; he’s a professional fighter, and like most others is probably far too tough for his own good. He fought for 10 more minutes, hopping and scooting and doing whatever he could to survive to the bell. The ringside doctor and the referee, supposedly there to protect the fighters, and the people in Rettinghouse’s corner, who presumably know him and care about his well-being, all decided that this was OK. This was not OK.
Moraes, who seemingly could have turned up the pressure and put the fight away, seemed truly uncomfortable. He coasted through the final rounds, playing it safe and looking almost disconcerted. The announcers lauded Rettinghouse’s Do You Want to Be a Fucking Fighter Warrior Spirit. One of them may have even nominated a 50-44 mauling as a possible fight of the year contender.

I'm somewhat frightened by her
Not again!?!?!?
Weidman v Machida postponed until July 5. Just like last year, the All-American will be on the Independence Day card. The expo is also that weekend so head out to Vegas and enjoy.
How do I get started in something? DO IT. How do I get better at something? DO MORE.
(Seriously, if there was a shortcut we’d all be using it)
It's on!
The fight will still happen even if Hendricks misses weight. Lawler wins -he's the champ. Hendricks wins - guess it's just a win. My guess is he would face the winner of Condit v Woodley in a few months for the title.
Hendricks weighed in at 171.5 lbs. He has to lose the full 1.5lbs because the fight is for the title. He has two hours. It’ll be a disaster if he can’t cut it. There’s no way of knowing how much water he has left to get rid of. Not to be funny, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the beard goes. He may have to take ounces where he can. He already stripped down. I mean, I’d shave my head if I had too (I have a LOT of hair. It must weigh a pound or two).
Anthony Leone takes on Eduardo Dantas for the Bantamweight championship Friday night! Why am I pumped? Because Leone has been training at my gym - Westchester Fight Club in New Rochelle, NY. My Kru, Primo Bellarosa, (that’s him in the green jacket) will corner him. Pretty awesome. Makes me miss training even more but soon- very soon.
It's now Weidman v. Machida. Honestly, is anyone surprised that Belfort was out less than 24 hrs after news broke about the TRT ban?
I, too, have been concerned that Belfort could fail a drug test, leaving UFC 173 without a legit main event.
