I Really Need Chimmy
Pairing: Park Jimin x f reader (ft. Jungkook)
Word count: 4.9k
Genre/tags: Slice of life, fluff, established relationship, slight age gap (Jimin is a few years older), a bit of comedy
Warnings: None
Synopsis: You hear about the BT21 Happy Meals and decide you need Chimmy. So you order a bunch of meals and have Jimin help you open them. He suggests turning it into a game: you each take turn guessing which figures will be in which box and whoever loses faces an embarrassing punishment. What starts as innocent fun quickly devolves into chaos when Jungkook shows up with several more Happy Meals and derails the entire thing.
A/N: This is my first fic and I'm honestly nervous to post this (I'm in the middle of writing several others right now) but I had this idea in my head and thought it would be cute and funny. Please let me know your thoughts. Constructive feedback is always welcome.
Cold, flickering blue light washed over the walls and furniture of your living room, random blobs of color dancing across the television screen. Fragments of quiet conversation and the occasional swell of music blended into the comfortable atmosphere of the room as a rerun of one of your favorite dramas unfolded before you. Your head rested in Jimin’s lap as he ran his fingers through your hair. Neither of you was paying attention to what was happening on screen, but this had become part of your routine when he was home. Jimin lived for these moments. These simple, mundane, domestic moments spent with the person he loved. They helped ground him - make him feel human again when fame got to be too loud. You were both scrolling through your phones, pausing every few minutes to show the other something funny. You had been in the middle of showing him this TikTok of a dog getting itself stuck in a gate when you were interrupted by a loud buzz indicating your food had arrived. You sprang up excitedly, rushing to the door like your life depended on it, which earned a chuckle from Jimin. You eagerly thanked the delivery person and sent them on their way, emerging moments later with several McDonalds bags. You placed them on the table in front of Jimin, and sat down beside him again, hands already rummaging through the bags in pursuit of your food.
“Yay! Finally! I’m so excited!” You squealed, doing a little happy dance while retrieving your Happy Meals from the bags and carefully placing them on the floor beside you.
“I still don’t see why you needed seven of them, Y/N. You’re never going to eat all of that food,” Jimin remarked, looking at you like you were one of the strangest people he knew, and he knew BTS, so that was saying something.
“It’s BT21, Jimin. There are seven of you. It makes perfect sense. I would have gotten fourteen if I could have, but I thought that would be a little excessive for the delivery person to have to deal with,” you explained it like it was common sense - of course you wanted all of them, but you would have honestly been fine with just Chimmy. However, you knew you couldn’t guarantee which toy it would be, so there was no way you would have settled for just one. You just hoped that you didn’t end up with seven RJs like you had witnessed happen to some people on TikTok.
Jimin just stared at you for a moment, as if confused by your logic. It did make a bit of sense if he really thought about it, but he didn’t see why you needed to collect figures for each member. After some thought, it hit him. “Ah, I get it now,” he explained, taking his own food out of the bags, smirking at you as he spread his food out on the table. “You just want to have a better chance at getting Chimmy.”
“Well, yeah. I mean, Chimmy is the main one I want. I would be happy with any of them, but it would be criminal for me not to have Chimmy, you know?”
“Jagiya, you do realize who you’re dating, right? I’m Jimin. Jimin of BTS…”
“Yes, which is exactly why I need Chimmy. Now, are you just going to sit there smirking at me or are you going to help me open them?”
“Why did we need to buy the actual meals though? I could have just driven you to buy the toys.”
“That ruins the mystery, babe! It’s no fun just to buy the toys and not be surprised by what you get.”
Jimin shook his head in disbelief. He thought you were being a bit ridiculous, but he also couldn’t deny how cute he thought you were. He eventually relented, reaching over you to grab one of the meals near your feet. “Fine. I guess I’ll help.”
“Yay! Thank you,” you said, leaning forward to plant a soft kiss on his cheek, then picking up one of the meals and placing it gently on your lap. “Let’s do it together. On three.”
“Y/N, really? You wanna do a countdown to open Happy Meals?”
“Sorry, I forgot you were an old man who doesn’t like fun,” you teased, attempting to snatch the Happy Meal out of his hands. Jimin anticipated your move though and quickly held it up above his head, rolling onto the balls of his feet while still on the couch knowing the box would be well out of your reach unless you stood up again.
“Rude, jagi. I was going to help, but now I think I’ll just eat your food instead.” He whipped his hair over his shoulder with all the sass he could muster, smirking as he began collecting his food from the table. He made a beeline for the Happy Meals, trying to gather as many as he could before running away with them.
“Minnie! Wait! I’m sorry, okay?” He paused mid-run, dramatically looking over his shoulder at you, eyebrows raised while he waited for you to continue. You didn’t say anything further, and after a few seconds of just staring at each other he turned around again, taking a few steps forward towards your shared bedroom.
“And…?”
You let out an audible sigh. He was clearly having fun messing with you. Your eyes dropped to the food he was holding, realizing it was getting cold. You could just let him eat his food alone while you opened the remaining Happy Meals, but you weren’t entirely sure he was kidding about eating the other ones. You also knew he would hide the toys from you, refusing to give them up until you either begged or agreed to do a favor for him and you didn’t want that either. “And, I guess we do have a lot of fun together…”
Jimin raised his eyebrows, shooting you an expression that suggested he was only partially satisfied with your answer. A mischievous glint filled his eyes as he took another step towards the bedroom. He was clearly having fun messing with you. You considered tackling him, but decided against it, not wanting to deal with the mess.
“Okay, I guess you’re not that old either.”
“That’s better,” he said, grinning victoriously. He returned to his previous spot on the couch, setting the food back down and arranging it around himself. “Now, I’ll help you, but we do this my way.”
You gave him a confused look. “What do you mean, your way?”
“I mean, we turn this into a friendly competition. We take turns guessing what toy will be in each one and whoever gets the most correct, wins.” His expression changed to one of excitement at the prospect of beating you.
You were intrigued by his suggestion. On one hand, it would be fun to beat him so you could gloat. Jimin wasn’t known to have the best luck with stuff like this. But there was also a small chance that you could lose, and you didn’t like the idea of Jimin choosing your punishment.
“Alright, say I agree. What do I get if I win?”
“The satisfaction of knowing you beat me,” he explained, “and you get to decide my punishment.”
“We should decide punishments in advance so I have more reason to want to beat you,” you suggested.
“Bold of you to assume you’re going to win, sweetheart. But sure, we can decide before we start.”
“Okay, if I win, I get to post embarrassing pictures of you on your Instagram.”
“Fine, and if I win, you have to film a dance challenge with me which I will also post on Instagram.”
Jimin knew you were terrible at dancing and you knew he was bound to enlist Jungkook’s help to make sure it was something embarrassing. You also knew that Jimin’s digital footprint from the early years of BTS was wild and there were plenty of embarrassing photos of him that existed on the internet already. ARMY was long overdue for some new meme material though, weren’t they? The memes that would come from it would be far funnier than whatever pictures you decided to post of him from your camera roll anyway. Plus, his band mates would have new stuff to tease him about. You really didn’t want to make a fool out of yourself in front of the entire world, but you also loved the idea of getting to embarrass Jimin. After a few minutes of deliberation you had made your decision.
“Okay, you have a deal,” you concurred. “But how are we going to do this? Should we both just say who we think is inside each of them at the same time so we aren’t influenced by the other person’s answer?”
“That’s a good idea,” Jimin agreed. “Let’s do that.”
“You ready?” You asked eagerly.
“Ready.”
“On 3 we say who we think is in each, then we open together.”
Jimin nodded, his fingers moving to the cardboard flaps keeping the box secured, preparing to open it. “Hana…”
“Dul…”
“Set!” You began opening the box before remembering you were supposed to call out which characters you thought they were, stopping yourself. Jimin was ready though and the second you said ‘set’ he was already saying his answer.
“Chimmy and RJ.”
“Aish! Jimin, I wasn’t ready.”
“You said on 3. I went on 3. Not my fault you were unprepared.”
You glared daggers at him. He was right, but that didn’t mean you weren’t salty about it.
“Whatever,” you rolled your eyes dramatically, wanting him to see how annoyed you were. “Koya and Shooky.”
As soon as you finished speaking you both ripped the meals open, setting the food aside and immediately pulling out the toys. You didn’t want to read the name printed on the side of the small box, sliding your fingers under the cardboard to free the toy from its confinement. You had gotten RJ. Jimin had done the same, holding the toy up in front of him for you to see. It was Koya.
“Looks like we tied. We should probably put the food back in the boxes so it doesn’t get cold,” Jimin suggested, scooping up the food he had set to the side and returning it to its box. He then eyed his own food which had been forgotten in all the excitement and realized how hungry he was. Jimin passed Koya to you, then popped open the box that contained his burger, proceeding to take a massive bite, stuffing his mouth as full as he could without choking. He was so cute. You blinked at him several times, slightly annoyed but not at all surprised. Part of you felt bad that he had to wait to eat so he could help you open the Happy Meals; you hadn’t wanted to open them alone. Everything was more fun with Jimin.
You set RJ and Koya to the side so you could do as Jimin suggested, putting the food back inside the box to try keeping it warm: though you knew your effort was probably futile. You took the opened Happy Meal from Jimin and then set both on the table in front of you. Then you bent over, picking up two more boxes from the floor, passing one to Jimin who was still chewing his food. You saw an opportunity for revenge and seized it.
“Cooky and Tata!” You cried, grinning smugly and making direct eye contact with Jimin who nearly choked on the last bit of food in his mouth at your outburst. You saw him concentrate hard on not dying as he swallowed the last few bites that remained.
“Not fair, Y/N-ah! I was still chewing.”
“Yeah! Which is exactly why I did what I did. Now we’re even.”
Jimin glared at you for three whole seconds before he made his guess: “Chimmy and Shooky.”
“Are you going to guess Chimmy every time, Jimin?”
“Of course I am! If I guess the same one every time I’m bound to be right eventually. And I might as well guess myself.”
You couldn’t argue with that logic. Plus, neither of you expressly made it a rule that you had to guess different characters each time. You could honestly just guess the same two repeatedly if you wanted to, but where was the fun in that? Eager to find out which figures it would be this time, you held a finger up in front of you, quickly counting from one to three. Just as you were about to pull the toy out of your box you heard your phone buzz and paused to check it:
You tried being as discreet as possible while messaging Jungkook, taking advantage of Jimin being distracted opening the Happy Meal he was holding. You slipped your phone into the pocket of your jeans and proceeded to pull the small box from inside the Happy Meal onto your lap. Your eyes met Jimin’s as your fingers delicately wedged themselves under the top flap of the box. You watched him do the same and together you carefully pulled them out: Both were RJ. You let out an audible groan, tossing your head back in exasperation.
“Ugh! No! I was afraid this would happen. I saw TikToks about this,” you explained.
“Wait, you saw TikToks of people getting repeats?”
“Yeah, there was apparently someone who got like fourteen RJs. It happened to multiple people. Apparently McDonalds doesn’t always get all of the toys in right away and will sometimes only get one or two in at a time.”
Jimin’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Wait, you mean you’ve known this entire time that there was the possibility they would all be the same? And you still agreed to turn this into a game?”
“Yes! It’s way more fun this way isn’t it? It would be boring for you to just sit there and watch while I open them myself. Does it really matter though? We’re still tied.”
Just as Jimin was opening his mouth to protest, a series of three impatient knocks interrupted your conversation. You stood immediately, leaving a befuddled Jimin on the couch as you flung the door open. Jungkook beamed brightly, holding up several McDonalds bags and pushed past you into the apartment. Jimin looked between you and Jungkook, slowly connecting the dots. You two had orchestrated this entire thing and left him in the dark. Part of him wanted to be mad, but he honestly found the prospect of you enlisting Jungkook’s help amusing. He couldn’t let either of you know that though.
“I would ask why you’re here, Jungkookie, but I think the bags in your hands answered that question for me,” Jimin remarked, giving him a stern look.
“Y/N asked me to help, hyung. I’m sorry,” Jungkook insisted, setting the bags he was holding on the floor between you and Jimin. He took a seat between you on the couch, stretching his feet out on an unoccupied area of the table. Jimin swiftly reached out to push Jungkook’s feet onto the floor. Jungkook let them fall to the floor, giving Jimin the brief satisfaction of winning before swinging his feet up into Jimin’s lap.
Jimin pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling slowly before asking, “how many did she make you get?”
“Seven, but I got some for myself, so I think there’s…fourteen in total? I don’t know. I lost count. I went to multiple locations to get them because I wanted to make sure she got a mix of toys and I also didn’t want the employees judging me for ordering fourteen at once at the drive-thru. They were already giving me weird looks for wearing my disguise,” Jungkook replied. His revelation must have reminded him he was still wearing said disguise because he reached up and pulled off mask, opting to leave the hat on because he thought it looked cool.
“I suppose she promised you food in exchange for your help?” Jimin surmised.
“Yeah! And I get to keep the toys she doesn’t want. Plus, she had me use her card, so I technically got the food for free! All for the small price of having to order it myself and drive it here.” Jungkook began pulling the Happy Meals out of the bags he brought, arranging them carefully on the floor and table in front of him.
“You should have made Jungkook pay for them, jagiya,” Jimin scolded you. “Or you could have at least given him my card. Then I would have felt a little better about the situation…he got so many…” Jimin ran a hand through his hair, still trying to process what he had gotten himself into.
“JK was already doing me a favor by getting them for me, baby. I couldn’t ask him to pay for them after that! That also would have felt…weird. What would I have said? ‘Hey, Jungkook. I want like fourteen BT21 meals from McDonalds but I don’t want to pay for them, and I don’t want to ask Jimin because he’ll say no, so could you pretty please buy them for me and bring them over here?’” You fluttered your eyelashes as you acted out what you said.
“I mean, you could have just not gotten this many in the first place. Do you really need this specific Chimmy that badly? I could easily get you any other Chimmy you want, even this one eventually, if it really came to that.” He hoped it didn’t.
“Because it’s cute, Chim. And I don’t wanna miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity! These toys will never be available again once they’re gone. And it’s no fun to just buy them online later. I like the experience of getting to open each of them and not knowing what I’ll get until I do. It’s like opening a little gift every time.”
Jimin chuckled at how cute you were being, but shook his head because he also thought you were being a bit ridiculous. You literally had the actual Chimmy at home. The far superior Chimmy. But apparently that wasn’t enough for you. Jungkook fiddled with the boxes in front of him while you and Jimin argued. He tuned out the conversation having just remembered that there was food. He noticed Jimin’s food remained untouched on the table - waiting to be eaten. He glanced at Jimin, then back at the food, then back at Jimin.
“Yah! Don’t even think about it!” Jimin exclaimed, irritated that he had to pause mid-conversation again to scold Jungkook.
The corners of Jungkook’s lips twisted into a mischievous smirk as he ignored Jimin’s outburst and reached for it anyway. Jimin aggressively swatted Jungkook’s hand away, then diverted his attention by passing him one of the Happy Meals and motioning for him to open it.
“Wait! He can’t open it until we make our guesses,” you reminded him.
Jimin groaned. He was getting hungrier by the minute and increasingly more irritated by the fact he would have to wait longer to eat. So instead of complying, he began gathering up his food. “Jagi, I really don’t want to play this game anymore. I’m hungry. I want to eat. I’ll be in our room watching science videos or something. Let me know when your playdate with Jungkook is over.”
“Wait, guesses? Were you guys playing a game? I wanna play!” Jungkook declared, clearly not reading the room. Jimin looked for a moment as though he was contemplating whether he should explain, smack Jungkook, or walk away. He decided to explain, figuring he could just eat his food while you two opened the Happy Meals and could still partake in the challenge. He really wanted you to lose and he knew if he got Jungkook involved he would happily agree to do the dance challenge with you guys, finding the most embarrassing song possible to dance to. However, there was also the possibility that if Jimin lost, Jungkook would provide you with an even more embarrassing photo of him from his very extensive Jimin-centric camera roll, and that prospect was frightening. Who knows what stuff he had in there?
Jimin crossed to the couch, balancing on one leg as he pushed Jungkook aside with his other foot. Jungkook, who hadn’t been expecting the attack, tumbled theatrically to the floor. He pretended to be in immense pain, crying out that Jimin “killed him” and something along the lines of “you’ll owe ARMY an apology for my death, hyung. They’ll never forgive you.”
“Stop being such a baby, Jungkook-ah. I hardly touched you.” Jimin proclaimed, laughing at Jungkook’s horrible acting. He went to pick up the Happy Meal that the supposedly “dying” Jungkook dropped and Jungkook sprang back to life, snatching the meal away and running to the other side of you before Jimin could react.
“Y/N, help! Hyung is being mean! First he wouldn’t tell me about the game you guys were playing, then he pushed me over, and then he tried to steal my food!” Jungkook attested, pointing at Jimin accusatorily. You doubled over in laughter. These two were too much for you to handle sometimes.
Jimin raised his hands in surrender, then sat down beside you. “You’re fine, Jungkookie,” he said. “Besides, it’s not your food anyway. It’s Y/N’s. And you can’t help her eat it unless you start opening them. Which you two can do while I eat.”
“Not fair, hyung! Why do you get to eat? I want food too!”
“JK, you’ll get food sooner if you help me,” you explained. “Jimin and I were playing a game where we made guesses about which characters would be in the boxes. Whoever gets the most right wins and the loser faces punishment.”
“Oooh! I wanna play! What are the punishments?” He asked innocently.
Your face filled with dread at the thought of having to face Jungkook. That man was good at literally everything. There was no way you could beat him.
“If I lose, Y/N gets to post an embarrassing picture of me on my Instagram-,” Jimin began.
“-and if I lose I have to do a dance challenge video with Jimin,” you interjected.
“Oooh! I wanna help with both of those. But you should let me play too. What will my punishment be if I lose?” Jungkook questioned.
“You don’t get to eat the Happy Meals,” you replied.
“Yah! Y/N-ah. You promised!” He retorted, feeling betrayed.
“You don’t have to play, Kookie. You can just help with the punishments. But you need to help me unbox the toys or I’ll have Jimin help me eat all of this food,” you explained.
You’ve never seen Jungkook move faster in his life. He pulled all of the unopened meals closer to him, passing one to you, then looked between you and Jimin, waiting for you to make your guesses. Jimin guessed Chimmy every time, eating between guesses while you and Jungkook opened. Eight boxes in and still no Chimmy. You had gotten nearly everyone else by this point. You were currently winning but your hope slowly dwindled with each new box that was opened.
“Are you sure Chimmy is even an option, jagiya?” Jimin asked, swallowing his final mouthful of food.
“Yes, Jimin! Why else would he be on the box? It would be stupid to have figures for all the others and not for Chimmy. He’s gotta be in there!”
Jungkook, who had grown bored of the game, was reminded how hungry he was by a loud rumble rippling through his stomach. He began reopening the boxes that were now devoid of toys and started removing the food from within. He stuffed as many fries into his mouth as he could fit without choking, then began to speak before he was fully finished chewing, “maybe they don’t have him available right now”, you thought he said. It was hard to be certain though since he had food in his mouth.
“That’s definitely a possibility we hadn’t considered,” Jimin stated, preparing to open the next box. He noticed your face fall, tears welling up in your eyes at the realization that you could have gone through all of this trouble to come out empty-handed. He had no idea why this meant so much to you, but he couldn’t stand seeing you cry. He would do anything to prevent that. So he decided he would do whatever he needed to do to get you this Chimmy - no matter how long it took.
“I don't see why you want Chimmy so badly anyway. Cooky is way cooler and you already have like two of him,” Jungkook added, loudly slurping one of the drinks that came with the Happy Meals, eyes darting between you and Jimin.
“I know it’s stupid. It just feels like it would be wrong for me not to. I…can’t really explain it. I’m sorry for roping both of you into this. I know I’m too old to be making this much fuss over a toy. I just…I don’t think I even want to play this game anymore,” you said, feeling defeated. You felt ridiculous. Why did this matter so much? It was just a toy. You could live without it. Perhaps you just wanted Jimin as much as possible. Every version of him. And you felt that extended to Chimmy, too. So naturally you had your heart set on this since you first heard about the BT21 meals.
“No, sweetheart, you don’t have anything to be sorry for. You’re never too old for something if it makes you happy. I just hate seeing you upset. I promise you, I will do whatever it takes to make sure you find Chimmy.” Jimin cupped your cheek in his hand, softly rubbing his thumb over your skin as he stared into your eyes with the utmost adoration.
Jimin’s words made you feel better and after taking a moment to collect yourself, you continued opening the Happy Meals with him, making guesses as you went. Jungkook watched you both like he was spectating the most riveting sports match of his life. He let out noises of surprise and disappointment every now and then amidst mouthfuls of food, empty boxes and wrappers scattered all around him. Finally, you were down to the last two Happy Meals and all hope felt lost, when it happened - you had found Chimmy at last.
“Yes! Finally! I knew it! I knew Chimmy was in one of these,” you cheered, outstretching your arms in a victory pose.
“Actually, I knew. I am the one who guessed him every time, after all,” Jimin teased.
“Yet you still lost somehow, hyung,” Jungkook added. Jimin glared at him.
Realizing you won, you ran to Jungkook excitedly, remembering Jimin’s punishment and wanting Jungkook’s help finding the perfect picture. Jimin began cleaning up the aftermath of the Jungkook tornado on the floor while you and Jungkook stood close together, heads bent in concentration as you shared embarrassing pictures of Jimin with each other, laughing hysterically.
“Oh my God! Look at his hair in this one! And his expression…ARMY would have a field day with this,” you giggled.
“Yeah, I think that’s the one. There will be memes of it everywhere. And ARMY will never let him live it down,” Jungkook agreed.
“Thanks again for your help, JK. I couldn’t have done this without you,” you added, smiling.
“Any time! Besides, you know I can’t turn down free food.”
Jimin smiled, watching the two of you. He wasn’t exactly thrilled at the idea of giving ARMY even more meme material, but he was glad you were happy. “I’m just glad you got Chimmy in the end. Even if it was at my expense.”
“Jimin, do you know why I wanted him so badly?”
He shook his head. “No. I figured it probably had to do with your old ARMY tendencies. You know, not wanting to miss out on things? Wanting to collect everything…”
“Well that’s part of it. But the real reason is because since we started dating and growing closer to each other, I realized I’m addicted to you. I want every version of you. Every part. Even the part that lives inside Chimmy. So I felt I needed to have him because he is still part of you. I want all of you, Jimin. In every universe,” you revealed, bringing your hands up to caress his face. You gazed into his eyes with every ounce of love you had for him. Jimin’s eyes started clouding with tears that threatened to fall down his cheeks.
“I love you, jagiya. I want all of you too. Forever.” He rested his forehead against yours, losing himself in the moment before bringing his lips to yours in a sweet, passionate kiss.
Jungkook, who both of you had forgotten was still in the room, gave a dramatic cry of disgust. “My eyes! My poor innocent eyes!” He exclaimed, dramatically covering them with his large hand before running out the door. You heard a crashing sound followed by a muffled “ow”. You figured he must have still been covering his eyes as he left and tripped. You and Jimin doubled over in laughter. Neither of you would forget this moment for a long time.
