Please end the stigma.
Text: psychosis is not edgy, it is not an aesthetic—it is a medical condition
We are not an aesthetic to make you look cool or counter-cultural, we are a marginalized identity, please respect that.
I apologize to OP for not reblogging this, I screen shot it a while ago and was just now looking at it again.
This picture means so much to me. Looking at these women, these brave women, who lived through the hell of deinstitutionalization. These women, who were living at a time when so much less was known about our conditions and there was so much more stigma surrounding our disorders, out on the streets fighting for the rights of the neuroatypical. We owe so much to our foremothers and fathers in the disability and mental health movements, though there is much work left to do. Let’s remember their fighting spirit, and remember to use the anger we carry for positive change. Life can be better for people like us, it’s gotten better before and we can push the bar higher. There’s hope, psychotics, keep fighting.
