Dwell in the Wind, Uematsu Chikuyū, 2006, Minneapolis Institute of Art: Japanese and Korean Art
rectangular high-walled basket woven from flat, vertical bamboo strips; uneven at top, resembling windblown reeds; chevron patterned weave at bottom The vertical strips of bamboo from the bottom to the opening appear to some extent haphazard because the vessel lacks a conventionally finished mouth. “Dwell in the Wind” (Kaze no yadori) belongs to a series of works by Uematsu that follow the theme “composition through lines” (sen ni yoru kōsei). Size: 12 3/8 × 16 3/8 × 8 9/16 in. (31.43 × 41.59 × 21.75 cm) Medium: Bamboo (nemagaridake), rattan, lacquer
