As I progress in my Spatort brainrot (while being stuck in workplace instead of watching more), it got me thinking about different what ifs.

And the main what if is obviously this: what if Leo never used that shovel?

(Please note that I might be missing some crucial information from the following episodes I haven't watched yet).

Long ramble incoming

1. What if they never became friends in the first place?

I think this opens up a ton of possibilities and all of them are quite painful. We'll keep the Yearning™ though, the Yearning™ is good.

On the surface, Leo would've turned out to be much more stable and less haunted if he never had to witness abuse and do what he did. Probably he would grow up to be a decent detective with a much more stable mind.

But Adam? Oh, I'm willing to bet, he would be led to a criminal path himself if the abuse never stopped. This is absolutely not to say that people who get abused grow up to be perpetrators, but in his case it seems very plausible. His abuse is paired with big amounts of physical violence and conditioning him to be "tough" and "strong".

If he keeps fighting against it, the suppressed rage in him would grow and grow until he snaps and does something to his father himself. Something pretty violent, which would land him in prison, for sure, if he gets caught.

Or if he doesn't have the strength to fight it, his subconscious would probably search for an outlet for his anger and vulnerability. Some vandalism, petty crimes and such until it escalates as the only outlet he has. His mother is distant and cold so he would really have no support system without Leo in his life. Destructive behaviour seems almost inevitable for him, especially with his father enabling this "man up" mindset.

What makes it even more plausible, is the fact that many abuse victims unconsciously seek to identify with their abuser, trying to fit in, to be on the right side just to make the pain stop. So if pressured long enough, Adam might have molded himself into what his father might have liked to see just to escape it all.

And the final nail in that angsty coffin: getting locked up for some stupid stuff would be a relief for Adam in this scenario because it probably feels like the only force that can literally take him away from his father. So a long chain of some small crimes seems to be a perfect conclusion for this coming of age scenario.

And in this scenario when Leo meets Adam, Leo himself is collected and professional, with stable job and good looks. Uh-oh. And Adam is in the downward spiral with nothing to lose at this point, all sharp edges and bite. Uh-oh uh-oh.

So Leo's saviour complex kicks in like five-seven years later when they're in their twenties and he meets this version of Adam, probably, and all of a sudden it's Yearning Time™ again as promised.

2. What if they were friends but Leo never managed to do anything and had to keep watching it unfold?

I think this would produce a somewhat similar result for Adam and a much worse one for Leo. If he never did anything but was still forced to witness it all with Adam suffering, I think at some point they would've grown painfully apart. Because Leo wouldn't be able to deal with this feeling of helplessness. All of the anger would be redirected towards himself for not doing anything. I think at one point it would've become unbearable and he'd be the one to run away from the situation, carrying some anger issues with him and probably a PTSD of a different kind (you absolutely can get a PTSD from watching something happen to others and not to you).

For Adam this would be a betrayal, the last straw, proving to him that something is deeply wrong with him. Then when Adam grows more destructive and their worlds collide again, the guilt and the anger is going to be suffocating.

...which leads us to the natural conclusion that the spatorting was like. Good choice, lmao. Good job, Leo.

So now Leo is carrying the burden of almost-manslaughter and PTSD but at least Adam is more or less sane and not behind bars. Just get therapy, you two, I'm begging

So. I'm midway through Das Herz der Schlange and I have Some Updates.

No, I haven't yet seen the most interesting parts but. I find it fascinating how with the current state of Adam I believe the very thing that would stop him from

becoming a criminal for real nowadays is the deep horror of becoming like his father. Which wouldn't be there yet if the abuse never stopped for him to have a reprieve.

I also want to note how much I wanted to scream when Roland woke up and said "ah, look at you, you're everything I've ever wanted you to be". The fucker. Whoever wrote the abusive parental figure storyline definitely knew what they were doing.

But back to criminal Adam.

I still have this sitting in my drafts from when I wrote the first post. For now it's just sitting there, waiting for me to finish Das Herz der Schlange to see if I somehow change my mind.

My updated opinion after HdS: yeah, I still believe Adam could go down the minor vandalism and angry misdemeanors road at first as a part of protest, an outlet. This is probably when he would meet young Leo, still a cop in training. Who would slip him his number (no homo, yeeeah).

The difference in imagining the scenario unfold comes from knowing more about Roland Schürk now.

Now I believe that once Adam would be old enough and possibly with a record, Roland (Father of the year he is) would decide to take him to run some Real Operations instead of those "pathetic outbursts" of his. Realising what's about to happen and not trusting his dad not to throw him under the bus the second something goes wrong, Adam would probably realise this is his best chance to get rid of Roland.

Which means calling Leo to try and arrange an operation that would end up with catching Roland and Adam walking free thanks to his role.

Now isn't that a good fic material 😌

Hi hi! I have been obsessing a bit over WAG Draco and Quidditch player Harry lately! What are your thoughts on this post-hogwarts life for them?

Hi, what an unexpected AU, I kinda had to do a double take at first to process this possibility. I think it's full of potential but also really tricky to navigate. Not much questions for Harry, as I can see him being tired after the war, quitting the Auror career cold turkey and just choosing professional Quidditch to let go of the past and build his new life. But an arm candy Draco? I mean, he's not necessarily one in that AU but if it's his major defining characteristic here, I think it would take a lot of careful navigation to make it sound plausible. Draco feels like a very proud person, so becoming just a trophy partner in case he doesn't have any real alternatives would probably be unacceptable to him and I can't imagine him doing it.

So I think this whole arrangement either needs a time skip during which Draco truly establishes himself and finds something fulfilling to do, so that he can have a ton of fun willingly playing the dumb trophy wife just because he wants to do so and see the outrage; or some kind of a bargain struck between Harry and Draco early on to start a fake relationship to help Draco's post-war social standing that's been heavily damaged. Maybe Harry agrees to the whole thing as a part of paying off his life debt. In this scenario they start out with the classic fake relationship and then it spirals out in the classic romcom way, you know. But I think it will still involve Draco scheming left and right to turn his own life around while he has the Boy Wonder aura protecting him and he doesn't suppose it will last long.

Meanwhile I'm pretty stressed here over making a commission price list for the first time in literally forever. As for the shortage of some good socks and garments in the fandom, I want to say that in my experience the ao3 people are working hard, so that their depiction of Jeeves keeps being Very Particular about Bertie's taste in clothes. Well, as it should be. Maybe they're not giving enough spotlight to some particular items most of the time but the heart is definitely in the right place. I absolutely adore all the jokes about one or another of Bertie's new hideous outfits and his cursed fashion sense that has only one purpose: to impress the Drones, which is quite ill-advised.
