As the last of the Grangers in Gryffindor Hall, Princess Hermione inherited her father’s extensive lands upon his death. The role of queen hers as soon as they opened the gates to let in a bishop. The gold and scarlet splattered crown in her hands intended to weigh heavily upon her head for the rest of her life. But the man in black armor with his matching horde on the other side of the castle moat offered to shorten her years of suffering- her years in general.

“What say you today, Princess?”

“I say you murdered my father, my mother, my brother,” Hermione shouted down from the battlements, raising the crown higher so he could see how close and far away he remained from his goal, “and rats shall clean off your bones before I surrender to you, Lord Voldemort.” Chapter 1, The girl with everything, and the boy from nothing, bunnystealsyourcarrots, (2019)

I made this illustration inspired by @ohthatbunnygirl brilliant fanfic, medieval tragedy at its finest 😭❤️

Warning: Spoilers below.

The illustration is sprinkled with little easter eggs referencing the story. Tom, having eyes only for the crown, stabbed Hermione in the back after everything she did for him, staining her dress red, the color she wore in her clothes after her parents' death, refusing to wear black mourning ones. And of course, the fire in the moat where they both ended up. 

It was my first time coloring armor, and in general, this illustration was a new experience for me in many ways. The hyperfocus was strong too; all I could think about was “What say you today, princess?” This is the kind of story that tears you apart, but you can't help coming back to read it again and again.

Thank you, Bunny, for such a wonderfully tragic story. It has left its mark on my heart ❤️
