I am a fresher and have just joined an organization. I was thinking of investing some of my savings in equity stocks as i have heard that they give highest return as compared to other investments. Moreover i need to have investments in more than one stock to hedge my portfolio as equity investments are risky in nature. But it’s really tiring to own these stocks physically.

We do not need to hold the securities in physical form anymore. We can keep our securities either with NDSL or CDSL. We can not only maintain our holdings in an electronic form, but also settle our trades in electronic shares. We will get a unique identification number after getting Demat account. Now after having Demat account, the companies will be able to identify us and hence deposit the shares in our account. We can also rematerialize our shares which mean conversation from electronic form into physical form. There is no limit to holding of minimum number of shares to be maintained. But we have to pay some charges in order to avail the services of depositories.

The document includes identity proof such as PAN Card, Voter’s ID, drivers’ license, passport, IT returns, Bank attestation, telephone or electricity bills or the ID cards with the photo of the applicant and address proof such as the Ration card, passport, Voter ID card, bank statement, telephone or electricity bills. However one must bring the required documents in original at the time of verification.

We have to pay annual fees and provide documents which are required before the opening of the Demat account.
