I love Midwest emo/ math rock so much. I used to hate instrumentals so much, but now it’s all I can handle. It makes me feel like a burnt out older brother during the beginning of his senior year in 2007. It’s barely fall, still sunny, but more muted and melancholy. He used to play football, but he quit. All he does is play guitar, and besides that, he smokes pot in his room. It’s brown zip ups and loose fit jeans and his dads old flannels from his grunge days in the 90s, washed out. Just like the music. It has the dark ambiance of grunge but with a more hopeless dismal tone.

i have a theory. with the rise of therapy, especially within gen z ( the next generation of parents), family dynamics will significantly improve bc many people who have experienced trauma will know how to avoid it healthily and have help coping with it bc of therapy. and be much better parents. a few generations down the line, kids are going to see it as “too perfect” and rebel and fuck their lives over and make a whole new generation of bad parents OR there will be an over emphasis of mental health. i do not mean to say that good mental health isn’t essential. what i mean by this is labeling every little thing with complex psychological terms (for example, i’ve seen soo many people misuse gaslighting) and not solving anything but putting people in boxes like “psychopath” for simply making a human error. in trying to “fix”every minor problem by placing blame on others instead of people teaching each other how to take responsibility and vice verse, that generation, counterproductively, will become more coddled and unable to develop problem solving skills and be even more messed up. i fear that therapy and education in psychology will become less of a tool and more of a crutch in the future.
