Back to building, and it feels good.
Admittedly this post was a bit unexpected, and not part of my plan originally, but I like the spontaneous nature of it, and I'm keeping it. I also believe this is where this series will end for now. I had fun with Clara, but I'm feeling a bit burnt out. I want to do a new story, one that I will more properly plan for and have a proper storyboard for. This was a great project to learn with.
After Jack and Clara gather things to return to the farm, Jack asks Clara for one last walk in the city before they leave to catch their train. Jack Hesitates, his hands in his pockets and he is quieter than normal.
It’s quieter now — the group has gathered together, Clara catching up with her friends. Jack flips through an old photography book nearby, giving them space.
Clara and Jack walk up to a lively table where Jasmine, Talia, and Noah are already sipping mimosas. They erupt when they see Clara, hugs flying. Then they spot Jack.
Clara and Jack lay together in bed, ending what is supposed to be the final day they are in the city. However, they're not quite ready to return to the responsibility of the farm, and Clara has more to show Jack.
Clara and Jack take a day to themselves to decompress a little. The city noise and life still a bit overwhelming but starting to become a bit familiar to them.
A few days later, Jack in in the kitchen, assisting Paul with some cabinet fixes while Margot and Clara have coffee in the dining area. Margot, taking the time to interrogate Clara a bit more about her choice.
Ethan did not leave his old room for the whole first day Clara and Jack had arrived. The next morning though, Clara finds Ethan sunk low into the couch, watching an old action movie on the TV.
Before long, Clara and Jack make their way to San Myshuno. The elevator ride feels long. Jack fidgets with his hat in his hands as Clara smooths her shirt. When the door opens, Margot is already waiting, stylish and sharp-eyed.
Clara and Jack decided to take an easy day from the farm to stay inside and watch a few movies when Clara's phone begins to ring. Margot, of course. The name alone makes her stomach tighten a little.
The sun is setting, and the evening air carries the scent of grass and honeysuckle. Clara and Jack sit on the picnic blanket, cuddled close together, enjoying each other's company.
Jack is unusually quiet, his hand wrapped around Clara’s.
Clara and Jack work together, putting out a stock of Jams and sauces for the stall when Maria approaches the stand, a sly smile showing on her face.
The kitchen smells like butter and fresh coffee. Jack stands at the counter, mixing batter, while Clara moves easily around him, grabbing some batter to make perfectly golden pancakes. Sunlight filters through the curtains, casting a soft glow on the small, cluttered space.
A quiet evening in Clara's front yard. The air smells like lilacs and wood smoke. The goats are settled, the chickens quiet, and Scout and Mittens are roaming nearby. Clara lounges peacefully, head in Jack's lap.
Jack leans against the railing, easily drawn in by the three women. Ellie lounges on one of the porch couches, Maria taking up another, and Betty settles into the final couch with that sharp-eyed look that always made Jack feel like a teenager again.
Jack shows up on horseback in the late afternoon, Starlight in tow on a lead attached to Rosie, asking Clara out for an afternoon ride.
They ride side by side through open fields, the rhythm of hooves and wind filling the space between them. After a while, Jack speaks.
Later that week, Brent helps Jack work on cleaning up his pasture. As they work, Jack finds himself watching the road leading toward Clara’s place.
