zira found out that the man she was seeing had a family already about a year into their relationship. the right thing to do would have been to call it off then and there…. but she didn’t. she fully considered it but he convinced her that, eventually when the time was right, he was going to leave his wife for her. and she believed him because she was in love and, truthfully, naive. she still felt guilty about it and hated the fact that she was almost like this dirty little secret but she thought that in the end it would be worth it, she’d have the one she loved and they’d be happy together. secrets rarely stay hidden forever though and when their relationship finally got out ? complete scandal.

zira has type a hemophilia, meaning that her blood does not clot properly due to a clotting factor deficiency. given the nature of her semblance it makes using it all the more risky, along with just fighting in general. she receives replacement therapy with synthetically made clotting factors every few months.

zira’s semblance is complicated in a manner of speaking. in short she causes injury to herself in order to activate it, link her aura to her opponent and from there on any pain they deal her they get to share in. granted it hurts her more than them, but she is able to amplify the effects of it by expending more aura. it’s best suited for one-on-one fights but if necessary she can link to multiple opponents, though at the risk of expending all her aura.

the affair that zira had didn’t just lead to her being discharged from the military and effectively leaving atlas in shame and embarrassment- it also led to the birth of her daughter. lucianna oleastro - hawthorne, born half a year before zira left, lives in atlas with a woman who zira attended the academy with and who she stayed close with even in the midst of her scandal. zira has not seen or had contact with her daughter since the day she left nearly five years ago, though she is given frequent updates on how she’s doing.

she does one day hope to be able to reconnect and establish a relationship with her daughter.

zira oleastro teaches social sciences at beacon

she is a snow leopard faunus, traits being retractable claws and two semi-rounded ears

she is a graduate of atlas academy and for a time was part of the military but was discharged after four years

she has only been teaching at beacon for about two years

so she joined atlas military pretty much straight out of graduation, 19 years old, and her discharge came at 23 which is also the age she had her daughter. she’s now 28 and still very much adjusting to the role of “ teacher ” which isn’t actually a job she ever thought she’d have ? but her life has gone in a lot of ways she didn’t expect so at this point she kind of just rolls with it and tries to figure things out along the way. she doesn’t really have a long term goal or plan in mind at this point in time.

zira was born down in mantle and grew up there until she was about twelve. around that time she was taken in by a wealthy benefactor who funded her education while at the same time using her to study her hemophilia and develop different possible treatments as well as having her as a sort of personal assistant who ran errands, helped with his notes, etc.
