After Jackie ditches her again, Shauna goes to SkylarâŠ
âYou canât be seriously not talking to anyone Skyâ Jackie beamed while placing the finishing touches to her makeup.
âEveryone here is lame, Iâd rather save my breathâ Skylar stated with an eye roll.
The three girls stand in front of the large mirror on top of Skylarâs dresser. Jackie stands to the right and Skylar to the left of Shauna. Skylar is curling her hair while Jackie touches up Shaunaâs make up.
âYou say that about everyone Skyâ Shauna says looking at her through the mirror.
âI do notâ Skylar scoffs but itâs followed by a giggle, âif I did, then I wouldnât be going out now would I?â She finishes giving Shauna a playful smug look.
âShe gotcha there Shipmanâ Jackie chirps with a shrug as she turns Shauna to face the mirror.
âBesides, I donât wanna get into anything messy so close to nationalsâ Skylar continues as she sprays her hair, âwhich I hope someone else is also doingâ she says with raised brows looking at Jackie through the mirror.
âDonât look at me like thatâ Jackie huffs, âIâm steering clear just as promisedâ she finishes with her usual coy smile. Both Skylar and Shauna roll their eyes, having a hard time believing her because of her track record with Jeff.
After the girls were finished getting ready they left for the party. It was some basketball players houses basement. The girls filed down the stairs, the smell of smoke, and beer was heavy and the speakers were blaring. Jackie looked back at Shauna and Skylar beaming with excitement as she pulled the girls through the crowd. They make their way to the makeshift bar that was actually just a foldout table with a Gatorade cooler full of half melted ice. Jackie grabs a blue plastic shot cup, and quickly pours the closest bottle of liquor into it.
âYou think thatâs the best idea?â Shauna asks as she fiddles with the plastic cup in her own hands.
âWhatâs the point of going out if Iâm not enjoying it â Jackie replies quickly before taking the shot. Her face puckering for a moment but she shakes it off with a smile quickly forming on her lips.
âSheâs not entirely wrongâ Skylar smirks at Shauna as she tauntingly holds a shot in front of her. âCommon Shauna, you know you wannaâ
Shauna gives in with a smile on her face as she grabs the shot out or Skylarâs hands. Skylar cheers in excitement, swiftly pouring her own shot and holding it up to Shaunaâs cup.
âSince Jackie was so eager, itâll be just usâ Skylar says taping her cup against Shaunaâs. âTo us!â She exclaims with a squeal before downing her shot, Shauna following suit and drinking hers.
âNo! Wait I want to do that. Letâs go againâ Jackie scrambles to take the now empty cups from their hands to refill them at the table.
She was quick about getting back to them with their shots, Jackie excitedly handing them their own cups. The three girls held their cups together cheering before downing the liquor. Jackie once again takes their cups to get more. Shauna and Skylar follow Jackie back to the bar this time, Shauna going to stop Jackie as Skylar goes to get them some beers instead.
âHold on Jackie, we just got hereâ Shauna says with a smile as she places a hand over the cups to stop her.
âYeah Jackie, whatâs the rushâ Skylar teased as she handed Jackie a red cup of beer.
Jackie just giggled and took the cup. Nodding, knowing that she wanted to actually enjoy her night, at least for now.
The girls danced in the small crowd for a while, Skylar dancing closely with Shauna as Jackie dances with a random guy close by. Skylar playfully lip syncs to the song playing while pointing and playfully poking Shauna. The two girls finished a few beers while they danced and definitely felt the buzz. Their eyes were locked on each other while dancing and laughing. It was like tunnel vision, feeling like they were the only two in the room. Shauna didnât even feel bothered by how cramped it started to get, feeling completely and utterly lost in Skylarâs gaze.
Jackie interrupted their trance, wrapping her arms around Shauna. âYou should get us that third thing of shotsâ she smiled batting her eyelashes at Shauna.
âFine, weâll be backâ Shauna said after a groan but her smile never left her face. Jackie cheered and hugged Shauna tightly as a thank you.
Shauna grabs Skylarâs hand and guides her through the cramped crowd. Skylar felt safe and confident in Shauna went she held her hand. Skylar not letting go when they make it back to the table. At the bar a good portion of the bottles were either empty or completely missing. Skylar ends up grabbing a random bottle, while Shauna lined up the cups.
âDonât fuck this upâ Shauna playfully taunts Skylar as she starts to pour.
âI wonât! Donât ruin my concentrationâ Skylar bites back, finally letting go of her hand to lightly shove Shauna as she pours, accidentally missing in the process.
âLook, youâre making a mess. Lemme take overâ Shauna teases as she tries to take the bottle from Skylar but she was quick enough to pull her hand out of reach.
âNo, no, no I wanna do it. I didnât even make that big of a messâ Skylar says gesturing to the cups.
Shauna relented with a small smile and Skylar finished pouring the rest of the shots. Shauna carried the three shots in her hands as she walked back through the crowd. Skylar following close behind.
When they reunited with Jackie she jumped in excitement. She was quick to take the closest shot to her in Shaunaâs hands. Shauna holds the other two cups and turns and faces Skylar. Smiling as she hands Skylar her shot. Skylar smiled back but after a few seconds of looking at Shaunaâs face her cheeks started to warm but before she could fully notice Jackie called for their attention.
âTo us!â Jackie yelled in excitement.
They down their shots, feeling the effects of it much more quickly than the first. They went back to having fun dancing with each other but then Van and Tai had shown up to the party. Van ran into Skylar on the dance floor and wanted to hang out, and Skylar agreed. She said her quick goodbyes to Jackie and Shauna, promising to find her way back around to them. Shauna watches as Skylar walks off with Van through the crowd. Once she was gone Shauna really started to feel the cramped crowd start to close around her.
Van took Skylar to the couch that Tai was on, she was sitting next to Lottie. Skylar smiles as she sees the girls sitting on the arm of the couch next to Lottie. Skylar and the girls were all just catching up and having a good time together. Shauna and Jackie made their way out of the dance crowd and were going to head outside. Shauna sees Skylar and the others. Something twists in her gut. She wanted Skylar to be laughing with her, telling her about how excited for nationals she was. Shaunaâs thoughts were cut off seeing Lottieâs hand on Skylarâs leg. It wasnât anything crazy, the result of Lottie laughing and wanting to balance on Skylar. Shauna hated seeing it, and hated how she felt seeing it. She let out a small huff and continued to the steps to go to the outside portion of the part with Jackie.
In the backyard there were beer pong tables, fairy lights, and couches? Jackie was walking around with Shauna until she ran into Jeff. He was with his friends sitting at one of the couches. Shauna was instantly annoyed and apprehensive when seeing Jeff. Jackie tried to act like she wasnât interested in his attention, trying to play it cool in front of Shauna. Shauna knew Jackie too well and knew even if she told Jackie not to talk to him she would do it anyways. So Shauna sighed in defeat, giving Jackie the go ahead to hang out with Jeff.
Shauna not wanting to be around Jeff and Jackie acting all weird she walks back to the door to go insides. Before she turns the knob she decides to just stay outside. Thinking about how weirdly she reacted to seeing Lottie and Skylar. She decided it would be best if she just chilled out. Going to the keg and getting herself a beer to nurse.
After a while Shauna was caught off guard when she saw Skylar exiting the door next to her, alone. Before Skylar could walk off and get pull away by someone else Shauna grabs her shoulder, spooking her.
Skylar jumps and lets out a small yelp when she quickly turns around to see who grabbed her. A huge wave of relief hits her once she sees that itâs Shauna. Skylar takes a quick glance around for Jackie and sees sheâs nowhere in sight. Skylar releases why Shauna is alone and giver her a knowing look. Shauna only nods in response. She quickly scans the area to see anywhere for them to hang and sees the road through the gate.
âWanna go somewhere?â Shauna asks with a mischievous expression on her face.
âLike where?â Skylar responds confused at where Shauna was going with this plan.
âSomewhere thatâs not here. Iâm sick of all these lameos, need somewhere quietâ Shauna explains as she gestures to the road

They talked while walking as they nursed their drinks, talking about small things like nerves about nationals, homework, Jackie. It was easy, to pressure, no need to impress each other with achievements, just being themselves. After a while Skylar didnât realize she had finished her drink so quickly, giggling as she threw her empty cup at Shauna.
âDamn Skyâ Shauna said through laughs. Skylar just shrugged, giving Shauna a sheepish playful smile.
âWhat? Itâs not gonna hurt anyone, no harm no foulâ Skylar explains as she slowly starts to drift closer to Shauna while walking.
âYeah weâll see where you end up Skyâ Shauna teased. The further they walked the closer Skylar drifted to Shauna. Soon enough they were basically arm to arm together. A beat a silence passed then Shauna continued, âThank you for hanging out when Jackie ditches meâ she said softly before taking a big drink of her beer to chase her emotions.
âGirl you donât have to thank me, I wouldnât hang out with you if I didnât like youâ Skylar replies putting her arm around Shaunaâs shoulder, putting herself impossibly closer to Shauna. âI donât hangout with Lameos rememberâ she replies softly, giving Shauna a warm look.
There feels like a small pull between the two. A moment of soft silence followed, the two lost in each otherâs close gaze. The feeling of Shaunaâs breath on Skylarâs lips snapped her out of the daze, her eyes darting down to find something else to look at. Seeing Shaunaâs empty up in her hands, Skylar playfully grabbed it and held it up to Shauna, never moving her arm from Shaunaâs shoulder.
âLook at you, no better than meâ Skylar says playfully.
âWhatever at least I didnât chug mineâ Shauna replies rolling her eyes with a smile before swiping the empty cup out of Skylarâs hands.
âWhat! I did not chug mineâ Skylar exclaims, finally separating herself from Shauna just to playfully shove her.
âThen explain why yours was gone in two seconds!â Shauna laughed playfully throwing the cup at Skylar.The cup bouncing of Skylarâs shoulder. She was tipsy so she fumbled with catching.
Earning a playful scoff from Skylar she wound her hand back as if she would throw it at Shauna. Shauna being tipsy herself slightly flinched at the movement. Skylar quick to laugh at her when she saw this. Shauna wanting to have the cup back charges at Skylar. This makes Skylar let out a drunken squeal before trying to run away. They ran down an alley, a trail of giggles and playful threats escaped the girls. Soon Shauna caught up and cornered Skyler to the brick wall of the alley.
Shauna and Skylar are still giggling and laughing. Shauna trying to take the empty cup from Skylar, their laughter and drunken haze making it more difficult than it would be. Skylar holds the now crumbled red cup against her chest, her hands and arms protecting it from Shaunaâs grip. The two girls were impossibly close, Shauna finally put her hands over Skylarâs. She tries to escape Shaunaâs grasp, giggles escape her lips. Shauna is frantically following Skylarâs hands and in the commotion and movement they drifted too close. Shauna feeling Skylarâs breath caused her to immediately crash her lips onto Skylarâs.
Skylar kissed back at first but quickly realizes what actually was happening. Her eyes widen at the same time as Shauna. Shauna suddenly ripping her head away from Skylar. A wave pool of emotions flooded Shaunaâs eyes, before Skylar could open her mouth to say something Shauna had chosen how to react. Fear.
Shauna quickly hardens her expression and grabs Skylarâs shoulders harshly. A quick gasp of surprise and pain escapes Skylar as Shauna harshly pushes her against the brick wall, her head hitting the brick harder than anticipated. Shaunaâs reaction filled Skylar with worry and fear as she looks at the girl in front of her.
âYouâre not gonna say anythingâ Shauna says her grip tightened on Skylarâs shoulders âgot itâ
All Skylar could manage in the moment was a nod. She started to shake. Not knowing how to handle Shauna looking at her like this. âShauna-â
âNo! Nothing happened!â She holds Skylar off the wall to be face to face with her. âIf you say anything about this Iâll make sure nobody believes you and you will regret itâ she says with a cold tone her eyes filled with rage.
âShauna, I-â Skylar tried to reason or try to talk about this but Shauna stopped her throwing her back onto the brick wall harshly.
âDonât fucking test me Skylar. Not a wordâ Shauna finishes, she sees the fear in Skylarâs eyes. Skylar just nodded knowing sheâd be safer just being quiet.
Shauna sees Skylar summit to her threat, finally letting her go. Letting her fall down the wall to the ground. Just leaving a with a huff, stomping on the crumbled cup as she left the alley. Shauna walked back to the house party, her mind spinning and her stomach reeling.
Skylar sits on the wet pavement, tears streaming down her face and she chokes back sobs. Fear and despair comes crashing down on her in waves. She doesnât care when the rain starts, and it soaks her dress and hair. She sits alone in the alley looking at the broken and crushed cup, watching the rain pour down and wash it away.
