“I’m sure you will.” Aurelia teases. Their openness was something that she had always loved about their relationship, she could tell him exactly what she was feeling and what she wanted without worrying about him taking it the wrong way. “Maybe we should shower in our room after the gym. I don’t want to chance anyone else coming in while we are… indecently exposed.” Her tone was still teasing but she held some seriousness in her voice. She would rather him not see her in a state of undress for the first time in the gym.

“I have horrible hand eye coordination.” She laughs. Growing up, she wasnt much of a video game person. She was more of a reader. Most of her time was spend curled up with a good book or hanging out with friends.

“Well, we can walk along the sand until we find a good spot to set up our blanket. Then we can either eat or go play in the water. Its up to you.”

Jake nodded and chuckled slightly. He was happy that they were together and actually doing this. It wasn’t just making plans to do something they could actually just go and do it. They didn’t have to wish to be able to kiss and hug or just simply be in the same room. He could just walk to where she was and do whatever he always wished he could. The best feeling was finally being able to hold her as they slept. She felt just as right as he thought she would. He listened to her and smiled smirking slightly. “That’s the exciting part.” he teased about the chance someone will walk in on them. He nodded in agreement wanting that moment to be just between them.

He laughed with her and smiled. Sports was one of the only things besides playing on a guitar if the home had one or a piano. Sports was what toughened him up when he was at some of the worst homes he had been to. He never shared what happened and he never planned to. That’s one thing he loved about her. She never forced him to tell her anything he didn’t  want to, but he felt completely safe and comfortable if he wanted to.

“Well I’m new here so I’ll do what you want. Whatever you like to do.”

Aurelia met his eyes as he lifted her chin, slow tears still sliding down her cheeks. “What do you mean you know how it is? Do you have anxiety problems to?” She asked softly. It didnt seem like it to her but anxiety wasn’t something that you could see.

Jake wiped the tears and let out a sigh looking down. He was fine with anyone else having anxiety or other disorders except for himself. He was ashamed of it. He nodded looking down at the ground and sat back down on the couch as he saw her not freaking out anymore. “Ptsd.” he said quietly with a shrug and picked up his coffee finishing it not wanting to make eye contact after his confession.

Though his jaw dropped at her words, he didnt seem as shocked as she thought he was going to be. In fact, he actually told her that he was going to need a benching partner tonight. She laughed softly. “I might just join you then.” She winks

“I’m really bad at shooting games so I wouldn’t doubt that you would beat me in those. I’m really good at games where you have to have a strategist or remember a pattern.” 

As they reached the beach, she kicked off her flip flops before  leaning down to pick them up. The sand felt nice between her toes. “I thought so too.”

He was happy that they could be open with each. He was a little hesitant to say certain things considering it’s completely different saying something behind a screen and in person. Despite that he knew that it was safe to tell her anything that he wanted. He couldn’t help but laugh with her. “I’ll look forward to it.” he smirked and looked down.

“Well clearly you’re better at games like that. I just have really good aim. Good hand eye coordination.” he said thinking about it. He never really played a lot of games growing up, but he was always up to doing things he never had an opportunity doing. Everything would be even better now that he could do all these things for the first time with her.

He watched her and smiled walking with her. “It looks amazing.” he told her looking around. “So what are our plans now that we’re actually here?”

He slowly felt her coming back to him. He never really imagined her going through what he did and now he felt guilty for not sharing his ptsd panic attacks from her. He didn’t know how to explain it there were so many random trigger through his laugh he had to find a coping mechanism that wouldn’t made him look like a fool in public. When she started sobbing he moved his chest up so her face could go against his shoulder as he stroked her hair. “It’s okay.” he said softly resting his cheek against her.

Aurelia laid her head on his chest and took a few shaky breathes as her senses came back completely. “I-Im sorry.” She whispered, when she was finally able to talk. Her hands gripping his shirt.

He held her as best as he could in this position. He pulled away from her as he heard her words and her grip harden on his shirt. He tilted her head to look at him. "There's nothing to be sorry about." he reassured her with a nod. "I know how it is."

His hand on her cheek brought her back even more, his voice hitting her and sending a rush of calm through her, she let out a soft sob and closed her eyes as he did. This was the first time anyone had ever helped her through a panic attack. Her mother still didnt even know she suffered from them. It felt right that Jake was here to help her.

“That is so not happening.” She answered without missing a beat. “The only way I am coming to the gym with you and being you benching partner is if I get to have a steamy shower with you afterwards.” As soon as the words left her mouth, she covered her face. She hadn’t meant to say that out loud but there was no taking it back now. 

“There is an arcade on the boardwalk, we can visit it sometime, I love vintage video games and I heard that they had old ones there. Like Donkey Kong and Pac Man.” She smiled when he told her that her keyboard arrived. “I’m sure you’ll come back to the room. You like sleeping next to me to much to stay away. And that is awesome. Maybe we can play some songs soon?”

Jake had a way with words, but this was something else. She just wanted to stop him in his tacks and kiss him right then and there. She didnt even care that the camera man was with them. “I love you.” She said simply.

He couldn’t help but laugh at how quickly she answered. He looked down at her as his jaw dropped a little at her words. He was completely shocked that she actually said it. Of course he’s thought about it plenty of times but he never really thought it was on her mind. He smirked down at her and nodded “Well I’m gonna need a benching partner tonight.” 

He listened to her and nodded “That sounds like an awesome idea. You’ll probably kick my ass though. I’ve never been to an arcade before. One of my foster brothers let me play his psp before and that was pretty cool. I’m really good at shooting games so I’ll beat you in that after you whoop me.” he said laughing. He nodded when she talked about playing songs. “Yeah I’m a little rusty so I’ll have to practice. I’ll probably never be up to par with you though.

He couldn’t help but smile at her and nodded “I love you too.” he replied as he walked with her on the beach. “This feels nice. Good idea.”

Aurelia felt the cushion beside her shift as he moved off the couch onto the floor in front of him. Unable to focus on his words, she found her hand grasping his shirt with his help. She could get through this, she wasn’t going to have a total melt down in front of him, she couldn’t. Her fingers ran over the material, feeling the coarseness of the stitches, slowly the world came back into focus until she could see the colors, lifting her head, she met his eyes. Tears sliding down her cheeks. The sound in her ears was still to loud to focus but she was closer, she could breathe again.

He could tell she was struggling and it was so hard for him to watch her going through what he would go through. He hated when it happened to himself there was nothing he hated more than to see her upset or like this. He let out a breath as he finally felt her hand on his first moving on its own. He nodded as he looked at her watching her slowly getting okay. He took his hand off of her and stroked her cheeks wiping away the tears. He leaned his forehead against her hers and closed his eyes being as close as he could. “You’re not alone.” he said softly stroking her cheek again.

“No heels? That’s like tell a dog that it cant have it’s tail. That is insane.” Aurelia had always been self conscious about her height and Jake knew it, so it was clear that she was teasing. Even if only a little bit. “This better be good.” 

Shrugging her shoulders, she glanced towards the skyline. “I havent really looked around either. It would probably be smart if we did so though. At least find more to do other than sitting in our room all the time. Not that I dont like that. Because I do.” 

Feeling his eyes on her, she turned her head to look up at him. “Do I have something on my face?” She asked softly, a blush appearing on her cheeks. “There is nothing wrong with that, you havent had time to go to the beach.”

He couldn’t help but laugh and shook her head. “It’s not insane. I said you had to be manly. How manly can you be in heels? Not very manly.” he told her laughing. “You’re gonna go to the gym with me you’ll be my benching partner.” he teased her knowing she would completely hate that. “it’ll be good I promise.”

“We should.” he agreed looking around. “It’s nice out in the evening. You almost don’t feel like your skin is boiling.” he joked and squinted down at her. “Wow now I’m never gonna go to the room.’ he teased and smiled. ‘Oh my keyboard came today. The producer or whoever told me. It’s taken a long ass time, but it’s finally here.”

He smiled and shook his head. “No I just- I don’t know. It’s unreal to do this. This whole thing has been feeling normal but I never would’ve imagine this. Being able to see everything in person and just absorb all of you. It’s probably the best feeling-No it’s the best feeling I’ve ever had.” he told her before looking away kind of embarrassed and looking over his shoulder. He didn’t even realize they were with them. He didn’t really realize anyone was there. It just felt like it was just both of them. He was even more embarrassed that he didn’t cover his mic on that sentence.

“I’ll start teaching you tomorrow when you are completely sober.” A part of her wondered if he was ready for this big of a step. If she was ready for this step. It wasn’t as if they lived in the same town and he could just come over to meet her mother, he had to come across a Ocean then what? What if he changed his mind? All the thoughts hit her at once and all she could hear was the sound of her heart beat speeding up, it was like a sudden whoosh in her ears. Vaguely she heard him speaking to her, but she couldnt answer. It felt like a weight was crushing her chest and she couldnt breathe. Now was not the time to have a panic attack.

“Deal.” he said with a slight smile. He’s never met someone’s mother before. All of his friends never had mother’s or parents. If they did they wouldn’t be in the foster homes he was at. He couldn’t help but think that he wasn’t good enough to meet her mom and that’s the only thing that made him hesitant to say more about going. What if her mom didn’t like him? Would he have to go back to LA? Would he be stuck on the streets in a place he hardly knows? He looked down at her as he talked and he noticed she wasn’t okay. The only reason why he knew something wasn’t okay was because he had these episodes in certain situations. “Hey,” he said softly moving off the couch and crouching in front of her putting one hand on her knee and the side of her neck stroking her jaw. “Look at my shirt and breathe.” he told her keeping eye contact with her. He cgrabbed her hand and put it on the his shirt to feel the material. “Just focus on the shit. How it looks. How it feels. Everything you possibly can.” he explained to her breathing himself. This is what he did. Examining something takes your brain and all your other senses to focus on something else. It was a sort of distraction. It always help him and he was really hoping it would help her.

“How manly are we talking?” She asked, trying to get him to spill some details of their next date. “Can you at least tell me what I should wear?” It was pretty much in vain but you cant blame a girl for trying. 

She squeezes his hand lightly as they walk outside. “I think we can walk. Its only a block or two down. The van’s can stay here incase someone else needs them.” Without waiting for him to answer, she starts walking towards the beach.

The wind was blowing, sending her curls away from her face as they walked. “I love being so close to the ocean.”

Jake couldn’t help but laugh. “Uhm manly enough that you can handle.” he told her with a smile. He looked down at her and shook his head. “Well you won’t be able to wear high heels. That’s the only hint you’re getting.” 

“Okay I’ve never really looked around. I probably should though since we’ll be here for awhile.” he said walking with her and looking around at the unfamiliar places. “There’s a lot of stuff to do around here. I’ve only looked at pamphlets that Kat gave me a couple weeks ago.”

Jake looked down at her and couldn’t help but smile down at her. Even though he’s been here awhile with her it still felt unreal. He never thought that any of this would actually happen. He took a deep breath as felt the wind against his face. “You know I’ve never been to the beach?” he told her biting his bottom lip. ‘i know what a loser lives in California and never been to the beach.”

“I won’t let you get lost and I’ll even help you work on your French if you want?” She didn’t want to push it on him but if he was willing to come home with her and meet her mother, it was going to be a whole new step in their relationship. A really big step. “She adores you already, meeting you would be the icing on the cake.” She had never really understood that reference but found herself using it anyway. Her arm went loosely around his torso. “It’s okay, really.”

“I know absolutely no French so if you’re gonna teach me we better start now.” he said with a light laugh looking down at his lap. He never really thought about going with her back home until he said it. He was a little nervous actually thinking about it. Not nervous of going with her, but the family part. He’d always taken care of himself and done everything on his own. He didn’t know what to think if her mother didn’t like him or sadly worse if she did. He never had a mother figure and he didn’t know what he would do if he had one. He looked at her when she mentioned her mother “Yeah? What does she know?” he asked curiously. He knew it had to be serious by her reaction. “Don’t shut me out.” he told her softly.

“It’s not cheesy. Its romantic.” She retorted, a pout taking form on her lips, knowing perfectly well that he was teasing her. “If you think it is cheesy then you can stay here and Ill go by myself.” She teased back

Aurelia wanted to argue with him, but she knew that it would do her no good. Jake saw her in  a way that no one had ever seen her before, in a way that she couldnt even see herself. 

“Fine. Don’t have a cow.” She laughs and heads out the door.

Jake rose an eyebrow and looked down at her. “Okay, what’s the difference between romantic and cheesy? They sound pretty similar to me.” he told her with a smile. He let out a laugh and shook his head “You know you wouldn’t go by yourself. I like cheese so I can be cheesy for you, but next thing we do won’t be cheesy. It’ll be manly.” he teased her again.

He never understood how she couldn’t see what he did, but then he also knew how she felt. He never understood why a girl like her would ever go for a guy like him. His whole life he had been a waste of space or trash. He was glad that someone finally thought something good.

He laced his fingers with her as they walked outside. ‘How far is the beach? Should we take a van and then have them pick us up later?”

“I would like that.” She admitted softly when he said something about returning to Paris with her. “I think my mother would like that as well. She wants to meet you.” Laughing lightly she laid her head on his shoulder. “Yes, you are an amazing kisser.” As the mood dropped into a more  sirious tone, she closed her eyes. “Not while you are drunk.”

Jake smiled and nodded “I’d like that too minus the whole being foreign thing, but I’ll have you so I won’t be completely lost.” he said and smiled wider at the mention of her mom. “Yeah meeting her would be pretty cool.” He let out a sigh and put his arm around her as she leaned against him. He chuckled lightly as she agreed with him. “I’m fine, talk to me.”
