Iāve said this before and Iāll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL
āoh we shouldnāt teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where itās noisy or they need to be quietā
My family went holiday SCUBA diving once, and a couple of Deaf guys were in the group. I was really little and I spent most of the briefing overcome with the realization that while the rest of us were going to have regulators in our mouths and be underwater fairly soon, they were going to be able to do all the same stuff and keep talking.
Update: you guys this is an amazing resource for learning asl. Bill Vicars is an incredible teacher. His videos are of him teaching a student in a classroom, using the learned vocabulary to have conversations.
Not only is the conversation format immersive and helpful for learning the grammar, but the students make common mistakes which he corrects, mistakes I wouldnāt have otherwise know I was making.
He also emphasizes learning ASL in the way itās actually used by the Deaf community and not the rigid structure that some ASL teachers impose in their classrooms
His lesson plans include learning about the Deaf community, which is an important aspect of learning ASL. Knowing how to communicate in ASL without the knowledge of the culture behind it leaves out a lot of nuances and explanations for the way ASL is.
Lastly, his lessons are just a lot of fun to watch. He is patient, entertaining, and funny. This good natured enthusiasm is contagious and learning feels like a privilege and not a chore

"Hello and Merry Christmas friends!" Y/N greeted the vlog, "It's currently Christmas morning and we're getting ready to go to the boys' parent's house for the day to celebrate."
"Yup, and as of right now, only Nick and Chris know that we're having a baby, but they don't know that we're having twins, so we're telling my parents and Justin today, as well as Y/N's family as a Christmas present. I'm really excited, what about you, babe?" Matt continued.
"I'm also really excited! My family is gonna be there too, by the way, which will be nice, so that we can just tell everybody all at once instead of having to make separate trips." Y/N added.
After Y/N and Matt finished getting ready, they picked up the video again to show the viewers exactly what they were plotting.
"So I had an idea," Y/N said, "I thought we could still get everyone individual presents, and have them still be kinda personal, so I'm gonna wrap those right now." She had a pile of all the presents and a bunch of wrapping paper, tissue paper, gift bags, and tape next to them set up nicely on the floor.
She time lapsed the video, slowing down briefly to show the camera every gift. "For Nick, I got him a shirt that says 'I'm the gay triplet uncle,' which is pretty self explanatory... for Chris I got him a shirt that says 'Triplet Brother, Twin Uncle,' which also kinda speaks for itself... for Justin I got him a shirt that says 'I survived triplet brothers, now I'm a twin uncle' because I thought that was kinda funny... for Mary Lou I got a shirt that says 'Triplet Mom, Twin Grandma,' ... for Jimmy I got the same thing, but it says Dad and Grandpa instead of Mom and Grandma... for my Mom I got a shirt that says 'My daughter married a triplet, now she's having twins,' even though we're not married yet... for my brother I got a shirt that says 'Twin A's favorite uncle,' ... for my sister I got a shirt that says 'Twin B's favorite auntie,' ... and we even got Trevor two dog bones, because two for twins."
"Okay guys, I'm done wrapping all the presents, and I'm kinda breaking a sweat right now," Y/N panted, "but now we're gonna load these shits into the car and head to Matt's parents' house."

"What's up guys, we're at our parents house for Christmas!" Nick exclaimed. "Everybody say hi!" The triplets' parents, Justin, Y/N's mom, and my siblings all waved and said hi to the viewers. There were a few clips of the joint families all laughing and having fun, and then the next clips were of everyone opening their presents from Matt and Y/N.
"Okay guys," Matt shouted, "These are all from me and Y/N, and we want you to unwrap them at the same time, okay? Once you're finished unwrapping, do not look at what's written on your presents until we're sure that everyone else has finished unwrapping, got it?" Everyone was a little confused, but all nodded in agreement and started tearing the paper off their gifts, and Matt looked at Y/N and giggled excitedly.
They finally confirmed that everyone was done unwrapping their presents and allowed them to all read their shirts and got their reactions on camera.
Nick read his and cackled, "This is funny as fuck..." then he read it again, and yelled, "Wait, WHAT?!"
Chris read his and his jaw dropped, "Wait, are you guys serious?"
Mary Lou, Jimmy, and Y/N's mom all read theirs and were all astonished. Mary Lou nearly fainted, Jimmy was frozen in shock, and Y/N's mom looked like she was about to start crying. "Oh, my baby! Really? Like really, really?" she asked, cupping Y/N's cheeks in her hands.
Justin read his and dropped it in astonishment, "I can't believe this, no way!"
Y/N's siblings were all completely dumbfounded, then ran up and attacked her with hugs, "You're joking, oh my god!"
"Surprise!" Matt and Y/N shouted together, holding out their ultrasound photo for everyone to see. Everyone started yelling and cheering, and it was truly one of the most wholesome moments ever.
Afterwards, they went around and asked individually what everyone's initial reactions were.
"I mean, I knew you guys were having a baby, but twins?! Holy shit," Nick said.
"I was truly shocked," Chris said, "I mean, I was shocked that you guys were having just one, so I guess that's double the shock!"
"I still can't believe I'm gonna have grandbabies, oh my goodness!" Mary Lou gushed, "I'm just so happy for you two!"
"I also can't believe this, I can't believe Matt's gonna have kids already! I mean, he still is my little Matt in my eyes!" Jimmy said.
"I mean, I'm totally surprised, and I can't believe that my little brother's about to be a dad, but I'm really stoked," Justin said.
"I really was not expecting this at all," Y/N's mom chuckled, "but it was the best Christmas present ever, and words can't express how happy I am for you two, and how excited I am to be a grandma!"
"I had no idea about any of this, but I'm excited, and I'm absolutely gonna be twin A's favorite uncle," Y/N's brother said.
"I'm still processing it, but I can't wait to be twin B's favorite auntie!" Y/N's sister said.
"Thank you guys so much for watching, I had so much fun today, and I'm really glad the cat's outta the bag now, so we don't have to hide it anymore!" Y/N spoke to the viewers.
"I also had a lot of fun, it was really funny to capture everyone's reactions on the vlog. We hope you guys had a very Merry Christmas, and we'll see you next Friday with another video!" Matt ended the video.
Matt and Y/N spent the rest of their Christmas cozied up in their bed watching Christmas movies and eating sweet treats. It's safe to say that this really was one of the best Christmas presents they'd ever given.

"Hey gang," Y/N started the video, "this morning, Matt and I are going to see the baby for the first time, you know, see if this shit's real or if the pregnancy tests were all just false positives."
Matt walked into frame, hugging Y/N around the waist, "I doubt it was false, though. My poor girl's been throwing up for hours every single morning," he said with a slight pout on his face.
Y/N held him closer and sighed, "This is true. But all of it'll be worth it in the end, I'm sure. Anyways, let's get gone, babe."
They both yelled goodbye to Nick and Chris, then the next clip began in the car. "Okay, we're on our way now!" Y/N smiled, equally nervous as she was excited. "I'm driving us because with how sick I've been feeling, I'd probably get carsick and throw up in here, which would suck."
"Y/N, how do you feel right now?" Matt asked from behind the camera.
"I'm feeling a lot of things, honey," she chuckled, "I'm feeling happy and excited about the fact that we're about to see our baby for the first time, I'm feeling anxious about the slight chance that all three tests were wrong, or that there's something wrong with our baby, and we won't end up having one at all, and I'm just shaking with all these emotions, even just thinking about it," she sighed, then asked, "How are you feeling about everything, Matt?"
He flipped the camera around as he said, "I'm also feeling all of those things, as well as a violent sense of anticipation," he laughed. "I'm so excited, I'm jumping in my seat right now. I'm really hyper, like I'm on the edge of my seat right now, literally."
Y/N shook her head and giggled, "Alright, Mr. Wiggles, we'll be there in just a couple of minutes. We'll see you guys when we get there!"
The next clip started when they were in the room in the doctor's office. Y/N was laying back on the cot while Matt had pulled up a chair to be right next to her. "We're here guys!" Y/N cheered. "The doctor should be in here any minute now, so we'll be finding out very soon." The anticipation felt thick in the air, a mix of both good things and bad. Just as Y/N spoke, there was a knock on the door before a long creak as it opened.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Dennis, but you can call me Miranda," the woman greeted warmly. "You must be Y/N."
"Hi, yes, that's me, nice to meet you." she replied.
"You too. And I assume this is your partner...?" Dr. Dennis questioned, waiting for Y/N to finish her sentence.
"Yup, this is my boyfriend, Matt," Y/N smiled, gripping his hand.
"Hi, nice to meet you," Matt smiled.
"Ah, you too. Okay, let's get rollin', yeah?" she said. "Okay, so you found out you were pregnant when?"
"I took 3 pregnancy tests about a week ago, but I'd been having symptoms for about 2 weeks before then, I think." Y/N responded.
"Okay, sounds good. And all tests were positive?" she asked.
"Yes, all tests were very clearly positive," Y/N affirmed.
"Okay, sounds good. Let's see this baby then!" Dr. Dennis exclaimed. Y/N and Matt looked at each other with total excitement on their faces. "Alrighty. I'm gonna squeeze some of this jelly on your belly, and it's gonna be pretty cold, so just be ready for that, okay?"
Y/N nodded. She squeezed the jelly on her belly and she winced at the contrasting temperature to her skin, despite the warning. She and Matt both giggled. Dr. Dennis placed the probe on Y/N's belly and began moving it around until she found her uterus. "Okay, let's see what we've got here... Ah, there we go. Your fetuses are looking very healthy, and we can see-"
"Wait a minute, did you just say the fetuses? As in multiple?!" Y/N exclaimed.
"Oh, yes!
Lo and behold, this is what they saw on the screen...
"Holy shit!" Matt gasped. "There's two?!"
Dr. Dennis smiled and nodded.
"Oh my god," Y/N beamed, "Honey, we're having twins!"
"I know, I can't believe it!" Matt gushed.
"Congratulations, you two," Dr. Dennis smiled. "If you listen closely, you can hear their heartbeats."
The room silenced as they both listened, and all that could be heard was the beating of their babies' hearts; Their first sign of life.
"Wow," Matt hummed, "Isn't that amazing, sweetheart?"
"Yeah, it really is." Y/N grinned.
The rest of the appointment continued on perfectly. The babies and Y/N were all looking completely healthy. It was such a surreal experience for the couple, but one they would never, ever forget.
"Okay, we're all done here! From the size of the fetuses, it looks like you're 8 weeks along now. Your due date should be sometime around early to mid September," Dr. Dennis concluded, removing the rubber gloves from her hands. "I'd like to see you guys again in about 12 weeks from now for your 20 week checkup, where we can determine the sexes of the fetuses! You can schedule that up at the front desk on your way out."
"Awesome, we will see you then, thank you so much, Miranda." Y/N affirmed. She squeezed Matt's hand excitedly as they walked out of the OB/GYN's office.

"Okay, we're back in the car now!" Matt spoke, "I think we can agree that was a really shocking but overall amazing first ultrasound!"
"Definitely," Y/N chuckled, "but I wouldn't have it any other way."
"Okay guys, that's all we have for you today, we'll see you again on Friday!" Matt cheered before ending the video.

The video opened with Y/N looking visibly tired and sick, alone in the bathroom. "Good morning Sturniolo Nation. Actually it's not a very good morning," she chuckled, "It's like 6 a.m. and I've been up for the past hour vomiting nonstop. It's been like this every single morning for probably the past week or two, I think, so I decided to go to the local drugstore to get one of these," she said, holding up two boxes of pregnancy tests. "On the off chance that I may actually be pregnant, I wanted to vlog this and take you guys along for the adventure."
She opened the boxes and took out all three pregnancy test sticks and showed them to the camera. "I'm gonna go piss, then I'll be right back." The clip cut off, then she continued, "Okay, these are the tests, now I just gotta wait about 3 minutes for them to cook, and then we'll find out if our lives are about to change drastically in 9 months," she laughed nervously.
"I've been putting this off for a couple days because frankly, I'm so fucking scared that I might actually be pregnant. Don't get me wrong, I would be so happy, but it's also terrifying. But no matter what the result is, I'm sure everything will be okay. I know Matt's gonna be with me every step of the way, and I know Nick and Chris have my back too. Whatever happens, happens, and I'm okay with that." Just as she finished her sentence, her timer finally went off. She looked at the camera with wide eyes. "Oh my god, I'm so fucking scared right now."
She repositioned the camera and picked up the tests. "Okay, I haven't looked yet, so here it goes. 3, 2, 1..." She flipped the test over and looked down at it, then back up at the camera as her hand clapped over her mouth in shock. "Shut the fuck up." She turned the test around for the viewers to see. There were two visible lines on the first test she picked up. She immediately put it down and picked up the other two with shaking hands and turned them over to check if they had the same result, one digital and one regular like the other, and her eyes only got wider, if that was even possible. She showed them both to the camera, another two very clear lines and the word "PREGNANT" on the digital test. "You're actually fucking kidding me."
She held all three tests in her hand and stared at them as she processed it, her other hand still clasped over her mouth. She started crying softly, tears mixed with both joy and fear. "I wasn't actually expecting this to happen guys. Holy shit." She took a deep breath in, then continued, "I'm sure I don't look it, but I am really, really happy. Oh my god guys, I'm gonna be a mom. And Matt's gonna be a dad! Holy fuck." She stared off into space for a moment, then continued, "The guys are all dead fuckin' asleep right now; They have no idea that I'm down here with three positive pregnancy tests and a literal fetus in my body right now."
She flipped the camera around to show all three positive tests on the bathroom counter, then turned it back around and put it back on the tripod. "Okay guys, I guess we're having a Baby Sturniolo in 2025!" She smiled to herself, so many thoughts swarming her head at once. "Guys, I have to figure out a way to tell Matt and Nick and Chris! Ooh, this'll be fun... Okay, I guess I'll be back later, once I have a plan."

The next day, she continued the video to set up the announcement for the triplets.
"Hey guys, I'm back now! I decided how I'm gonna tell the boys," she explained. "They're all out grocery shopping right now at Costco. I told them to get a rotisserie chicken for dinner tonight. I'm gonna make it and put it on the table, and then I'll have 3 plates set out for each of the guys, and there also just so happens to be 3 pregnancy tests. My idea is that when I call them all for dinner, they're just gonna have a pregnancy test on each of their plates. I dunno, I just wanted it to be simple but still kinda fun, y'know? So that's what I'm gonna do, and I'm gonna have a hidden camera pointing at the table so I can get their reactions. They'll be back soon I'm sure, and dinner's not for another couple hours, so I'll see you guys then!"

The next clip began exactly how she explained it: A plate for herself and each of the triplets, and one pregnancy test on each of the boys' plates. The cameras were already set up and ready to go, one hidden in a potted plant, another hidden on a shelf in between some books and a Lego house they'd built and put on display.
"Guys, dinner!" she shouted throughout the house so they would all hear. Then she finally got to put her plan into action.
The boys all came out of their rooms around the same time, hungry and excited to eat.
"Mmm, this smells really good, babe," Matt hummed as he walked into the kitchen.
Chris nodded in agreement, and Nick hung up on whoever he was on FaceTime with before.
They all sat down and looked at their plates, and then back at Y/N, completely puzzled.
"Oh my god." Matt gasped.
"Whose is this?" Nick asked.
"What the fuck are these for?" Chris questioned.
''Wait..." Matt hesitated, "Y/N, is this yours? Are you pregnant?"
Y/N smiled and nodded, her hands covering her face to hide the excitement. "Yeah, surprise!" she giggled.
Matt's face lit up with joy and shock, "Wait, are you kidding? Is this shit a prank?"
She shook her head, "No, it's real."
Nick gasped and Chris' jaw dropped.
"Oh my god, really?! You mean I'm gonna be a dad?" Matt jumped up out of his chair.
"Yeah, and I'm gonna be a mom!" she smiled.
"Holy shit, baby!" Matt immediately picked Y/N up out of her chair and hugged her tight. "I'm gonna be a dad!" he cheered, then kissed her sweetly.
"We're gonna be uncles?!" Chris yelled with shock.
"We're gonna be uncles!" Nick squealed. Both him and Chris got up and came over to join in Y/N and Matt's hug.
"Oh my god, congratulations guys!" Nick smiled.
"Yeah, wow! You're seriously not even joking?" Chris laughed, "Like not even a little bit?"
"Not even joking!" Y/N chuckled with the biggest smile and tears of joy in her eyes.

The clip cut to all four of them sitting on the couch together. "So," Y/N started, "we're having a baby! Surprise! How do you guys feel?"
"I'm so excited!" Matt smiled, kissing Y/N's head. "I'm still slightly in shock and still kinda processing this, but I can't wait. I'm so happy and excited to be a dad."
Nick smiled, "Yeah, I'm also really excited. I'm gonna be an uncle! I'm gonna be the coolest uncle the world's ever seen. Finally get to live out my gay unc dreams, you guys."
"Okay, calm down Nick," Chris giggled. "Yeah, I'm super excited too. Nick doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. Trust guys, I'm gonna be the best uncle. But yeah, I'm so happy for you guys!"
They all laughed together, then ended the video.
And that was just the start of the journey for Baby Sturniolo 2025.
