Why?

There's billions of us on the planet. It probably makes sense to get to know some people in their own language. It probably makes sense to read the wisdom of days past without an interpreter.

When you get a glimpse of how people think, it changes your worldview. It's a good way to travel- physically, spiritually, academically.

Damn this empathy. I wish I could give it back.

The curse of curiosity is knowing you will always have to settle for less. I will learn until I die, and after I die I hope that other travelers on this path may learn from my triumphs, and more importantly, my failures.

We should all strive to be learners. Never stop learning from others, and never stop helping others learn.

If you’re learning a language seriously with the intention of using it long term and making it a part of your life you need to let go of the idea that it’s something you can just get over with and rip off like a band aid. Anyone that tells you that you can be fluent in three months or less is probably trying to sell you something.

This is gonna be a several months or years long project. And you’re not stupid. You’ll feel stupid. A lot. But you’re not stupid.

我在想一想怎么学习汉字。结果是我应该学广东话。

我自己的词汇不完成，那我有可能重新学字。

The plan is to learn characters by frequency but include:

- 5-20 related bigrams

- Example sentences for each bigram, sourced by tatoeba

Then, put this "holistic" knowledge of the character into a SRS and try to use new knowledge during my language exchange or diary entries.

Writing/thinking out loud about my langblr

Diary-san should be once a week or so. Prevents burnout and also makes me think about interesting things that came and went during the week. Week highlights are more interest than day highlights (I went to work, ate, studied X, slept)

Going to start writing summarize of bad movies that I watch on Fridays. Format TBD.

Still reformulating goals to push through B2 levels of understanding. Real plateau in my Chinese. It's annoying. Super annoying.

Each and every one of you are great. I try to be supportive here. I like being supportive.

C1-C2: man, there're so many weirdly specific words I need to know in order to describe these weirdly specific things I've only seen once in my life. Also I forgot how to say ceiling.

I may port both my diaries over to Lang-8 or similar. Just feels like a better place for them to live.

It is nice having them for myself in one place though, Tumblr is super accessible for me and the point of this is a low barrier to entry
