Ocelot Kitten and Australian Shepherd. Cincinnati Zoo has successfully paired their baby animals that have been orphaned, abandoned, or whose mothers cannot provide adequate care, with dogs (breeds vary) for several years. The dogs are chosen for temperament and trained before being slowly introduced. The dogs serve as both caregivers and friends. All information and photos provided by Cincinnati Zoo

Note: Baby foxes can be called kits or cubs. Usage is (usually) dependant on location. I’ve seen kit and cub interchangeably in various publications, zoos, preserves and even documentaries.

White-crested Runner Duck chick and Long-eared Owl chick. After the duckling was the sole survivor after being orphaned, the Long Eared Owl chick(who was found injured) was placed adjacent to it in the hopes that a bond, and an end to the ducklings obvious loneliness, would be formed. The duckling and owl formed an instant friendship and refuse to be seperated.
