Very interesting to me because does anyone remember that post where someone asked something like "what interests you about them if not gcest stuff" or whatever and it just didn't occur to the poster to say "the music"?
Anyway, there will be people like that everywhere. There are self insert writers that have no clue about half the discography. There will be people all over that just don't care for it. However you personally feel about how people engage with the world of music, I don't think you can demand that every person that ever ventures into music fandom spaces—places where people discuss music—will necessarily have the same depth of interest in every part of their career. They'll want to talk about the parts of the band's discography that interest them.
For example (don't eat me for this), you won't find me talking too much about Don't Believe The Truth. I tried listening to that album. I just don't want to listen to it again. I'm sorry, it's Noel's most uninspired piece of work. That guy wanted a break. From Heathen Chemistry onwards, we entered an era where the best songs on the album were not the ones written by Noel, and he'd agree. And honestly if he couldn't be bothered to not do it half-heartedly why ask a fan to engage with it wholeheartedly?
And again, others will disagree with me because taste in music is subjective. I also don't think your fandom is a very interesting place where much discussion about music will happen if you're not talking to a mix of people that have been in this for far too long and people with a bit of outsider's perspective and still an interest in the band. You know. As opposed to someone who is an outsider to it and has no interest in it who doesn't want to talk about it. I want to hear what people who know very little about the lore of the band think of some Noel lyrics. I want someone who was in the room as Noel recorded to tell me what they think too. Some of the most gut-punching and heartfelt lyrical analyses I've ever read have come from gcest accounts. I accept that, they are sometimes like 2 steps away from having been in the recording room. Or they've found footage or an in-depth interview of it, anyway.
As for new accounts, I'm guessing what happened was many Oasis accounts were sort of dormant for years when there wasn't that much Oasis related stuff to talk about. The occasional Noel snarky interview, the occasional Liam tweet. Reunion rumours to run everyone's blood pressure high that turn out to be baseless. Sharing solo performances and such. I don't think you can hold it to any fans that decided they were bigger fans of Oasis' music than Noel or Liam's solo work. And we haven't had anything new on the Oasis front since 2009. Almost 20 years.
So I think most people's Oasis accounts just became their regular accounts, with a bit of Oasis stuff now and then as it came, and then suddenly when Oasis were back and we could see them performing every night, people figured it was too much Oasis content for their main accounts and made a sideblog. I run a new music blog ffs! I couldn't have Oasis dominating my blog to the cool people that come to me for new small bands, could I? Throw in their face possibly THE band that slagged off every single new band and turned a lot of their fans against new artists? No way. So sideblog. Even though I've been blogging about these idiots since 2020.
And people that run popular Oasis/Britpop/90s music accounts are one to giving talk!!?? Half of them generate their reel captions through chat gpt!!! They're in NO position to talk about who truly engages with the fandom and who doesn't, they can't even be bothered to put their own words and thoughts and feelings about Oasis out there!
So this person's seen two twitter accounts and thought they've joined some dots. They've joined fuck-all.
