Nature brings forth beautiful intricacies of land and sea, and to this day are still being discovered and protected. . Dating back to 570 million years ago, glass sponge first appeared in this world. 220 million years ago, Glass Sponge Reefs were formed in the prehistoric ocean, and thought to have gone extinct 40 million years ago, along with the dinosaurs. Found again in 1987 on the coast of British Columbia, Canada, these living fossils live 200 m below sea level and are incredibly special to our northwest marine ecosystem. These Glass Sponge Reefs are created from dissolved Silica (glass), and although their skeletons are incredibly fragile, they can reach a height up to an 8-storey building! These living animals provide a home for many species of marine life ranging from tiny shrimp to large sharks. These Reefs are so important because they filter bacteria from the water and they do so at an incredibly fast pace (small reef can filter an Olympic sized swimming pool in less than a minute😱). 50% of these beautiful treasures have been destroyed due to heavy fishing gear, as well as being choked from disturbed sediment on the ocean floor. These are absolutely amazing living fossils, and I'm so happy they're being recognized as such and are now all protected! We take care of what we love ❤️ Had a really fun time helping @surfrider with their beach clean up at Maha'ulepu Beach on the southeast coast of Kauai. The Hawaiian islands unfortunately house a lot of ocean debris that drift onto shore due to the ocean's currents. Fishing nets, boat ropes, even itsy bitsy tiny plastic pieces can be found all along these beaches. It's heart breaking and it's too real. Our plastic waste and overall general waste is terribly detrimental to our planet's ecosystem, both on land and out in the sea. There's a lot of waste to be cleaned up, but there are so many amazing people out in this world trying to help. It may not seem like a big impact, to take rubbish you see on the beach and bring it to a bin, but it's really the little things that count ☺️♻️🌊 (at Maha'ulepu Beach)

🐋Happy World Whale Day!!🐋 . . . Watercolor has its own beauty and madness. It goes wherever gravity may pull it, and it blends however way it feels. I find this medium so tricky for me; I'm so used to precise pen & ink or the blending and manipulation capability of acrylic and oil paint. But watercolor is different. It teaches you how to go with the flow of the water you place on your canvas. I find it so challenging, and I'm falling in love with this medium so much. I hope you all like it, too. . . Sometimes, life feels like a dream, and happiness is so close to the soul. These moments matter the most, even if it's only for a few instances. Hold that happiness in your heart, hug it tight, and hug it with all your love, and what ever you dream, it will come true. It may take you longer than you imagined, turning your dream into reality, but with a strong spirit, and strong mind, nothing can stand in your way. Obstacles turn worry and anxiety into motivation, challenges are faced with creativity and spunk. Yes, negativity can bring you down, and sometimes you can let it, only for a little bit though. Let it humble yourself to retrace your steps and look at your problem from a different and new perspective. As someone special once said, a problem cannot be solved with the same mindset that created it. Mountain crowns ☀️ I was having the most epic dream ever (well I've had many but this was a first in a verrry long time) when the light broke through the back curtains and my eyes immediately flashed open. I laid on my tummy, peaking through the curtain to watch this beautiful sun rise, and it was just too amazing to get my phone, jump outside the van, and run on the beach to capture this moment. So I waited a little until I got my own personal fill, and did just that. The sun is a little higher so it created this golden crown 👑 . Research says that you lose memory of your dreams of the night before if you don't write/say the dream immediately after waking up. I find that true to some extent, but saying my dreams to Ry and expressing the feelings I had during the dream... I know I'll remember this dream for ages 🌀. . . . ...Swimming to underwater caves, walking on a platform path above the water to feel and see whales swimming underneath us (I'm thinking it may have been dugongs though), having the water illuminate with tons of fish and to be caught in a current holding a giant conch shell, sliding down a rock slide with manta rays gliding underneath us, and finally meeting people (mermaids???) underwater having great times playing with the manta rays and other fish. Wow. If this isn't a premonition of our future, I'll be totally okay with that cause I already lived it out in that dream 😍 . . All artists out there, who else finds it super difficult to focus on art while traveling to new places? I'm really really trying to get a hang of it but all I can come up with is this watercolor sketch of a jelly that I drew on a super bumpy ride. It only took me a couple minutes to create before I got a little van woozie (I can never be productive on a long ride 😓), but when we finally reach a new place, there's always something to do, places to see, beaches to frolick! How do all these artists/travelers do it?! @jercollins_com is one of my favorite inspirations to travel and draw, but wow, it is pretty tough to balance it all. I guess it's just going to take some getting use to. Blue Mountains, you continue to amaze me with your views. Finally got back to rock climbing real rock 😍 Ry and I are staying at an Airbnb for a couple nights and the family we're staying with is such an inspiration. A traveler falling in love with a traveler, to continue their journeys with their sons across the world to surf, rock climb, and hike... it's truly a beautiful love and life story. I'm so grateful our paths crossed because I finally learned (built up the courage) to lead climb some routes and now Ry and I are hooked! 🏞 We even went to town and Katoomba to look for our own rock climbing gear 😅 Although it's not within our budget right now, we're looking to continue in the future most definitely! It was an amazing experience, with great company, wonderful views, and amazing vibes ✌🏽️ Any suggestions or places to visit on our way down south to hike or climb, send them our way, please! We love to find other people who love to hike and climb as much as we do. Hiking is only so good when you're properly prepared. We weren't. Up high, looking at a view like this, the wind can get so wild. Which is great, cause no buggies can do harm to me 😌 but down in the rainforest, that's a different story. The wind stops but the temperature drops...and the bugs come out to play, in not a good way! 40 minutes into the hike when we finally got to the bottom, I stopped for a couple seconds to breathe and already my legs are covered in mozzies, my worst nightmare. You can tell where this is going...I freaked out and had to turn around to hike back up the way we came from. I didn't have pants or bug spray, and I was being eaten alive. Ah I've never freaked out that bad on a hike, but I've also never been so ill prepared 😓 On a more positive note, on the way back up, ry and I verged off the trail and found some cool views where copious amounts of people were fortunately not around. We had this view all to ourselves on this busy Sunday, and it made up for everything that happened before. That's the beauty of hiking. Within reason and condition, verging off the path often treaded can lead you to where you didn't know you wanted to go. And where you end up, happiness may find you there.. P.s. Does anyone know a kind a natural bug repellent that's environmentally friendly to use??
