It is a rare and special gift to be funded to do the work you feel compelled to do, it is also a unique and special gift to have an amazing grandma like I do. Thank you to Gram and #VSCO for making this work possible
booooooze for Popular Mechanics!
The cover story of the January issue of Popular Mechanics: this cover might be dominated by what some consider to be a traditionally male aesthetic, but don’t be fooled, this story was shot by a girl.
It’s so hard being a teenager. This group does it with such grace, kindness, beauty, and humor.
Some of my students from this summer’s National Geographic Student Photo Expedition in Yellowstone.
Olympic cyclist Taylor Phinney, for W Mag.
Finally getting around to posting new work. Florence Müller, Curator of Textile Art and Fashion at the Denver Art Museum.
Icelandic children from a while back... archiving digging.
Sara Rafsky and I concocted travel plans several months ago without knowing our time in Cuba would coincide with two major moments in the country’s modern history: both President Obama and the Rolling Stones’ visit to the island.
What ensued was a uniquely strange and wonderful trip, filled with experiences that reflected the country’s transitional state: thwarted attempts to visit cultural institutions which were inexplicably closed, repeatedly failing to order shrimp before it had run out for the night, watching Raul’s botched effort to raise Obama’s arm as a gesture of solidarity live on television.
Trying to look past the cliched beauty of the crumbling architecture and vintage cars, I was struck by the overwhelming number of people who just seemed to be waiting. They lingered in doorways, on balconies, on doorsteps. Waiting for what, I couldn’t say.
