Chillin’ on the Bridge
The cruelest terror is not the unknown, but the familiar. The thought of reliving a past you bled to escape. After all the nights you clawed your way out, after all the work it took to stitch yourself whole, the idea of returning is the sharpest blade. I will not gamble with my healing. You don’t fight that hard just to bleed the same wounds twice. I vow to never return to what once wounded me, even if it calls me back with beauty.
There is beauty in safety. There is nothing more sacred than feeling safe. Safe to rest. Safe to breathe. Safe to unfold every part of yourself without fear of it being broken. Some don’t know what to do with safety. They sabotage it, they confuse peace with boredom, or run toward chaos because it mirrors the wounds they never healed. Safety feels foreign when all you’ve ever known is war, yet the beauty of reclaiming peace is you begin to see that safety is not dull. It is the ground where love grows roots, where the nervous system can exhale, where the soul can finally sing instead of scream. There is nothing weak about wanting peace. There is nothing boring about craving stability. It is the most revolutionary act to choose serenity in a world addicted to noise.
I admire control, not the shallow kind that tries to possess another, but the rare discipline of one who holds mastery over themselves.
Control of one’s life. Control of one’s thoughts. Control of impulses and old patterns that once ruled them. It is the mark of someone who refuses to be enslaved by chaos, by weakness, by the gravity of their past. There is nothing more magnetic than a soul who knows how to govern their own inner kingdom. Someone who does not surrender to every passing storm within, but instead commands it, transforming it until they rise into the best version of what the self was always meant to be.
That is the kind of control I respect.
“The role of the lover is exactly the same as the role of the artist. If I love you, I must make you aware of the things you do not see.”
— James Baldwin
