Sana ihtiyacımız varā¦
A car bomb has exploded in the Turkish capital Ankara, killing 32 people and wounding more than 100, the health ministry has said. Unofficially, the death toll is expected to be as high as 175.Ā
The explosion happened in Guven Park in the Kizilay district, a key transport hub and commercial area. For comparison purposes ā itās like a bomb going off in Piccadilly Circus.Ā
Last month, an attack on a military convoy in Ankara killed 28 people and wounded dozens more. Last October, more than 100 people were killed in a double-suicide bombing at a Kurdish peace rally in Ankara. Ankara, Ankara, Ankara. In the last 5 years alone, Turkey has experienced 16 violent terrorist attacks. 16. And three have been in the last five months. Please let that sink in.
Instead of dealing with the fallout after the attack, Turkey insteadĀ ordered a ban on access to social media, including Facebook and Twitter, saying it was to stop people sharing images. Right.Ā Meanwhile, it has emerged that the US embassy in Ankara warned its citizens on 11 March of a āpotential terrorist plotā in the city. Nobody warned Turkish people, naturally. Who cares if we die, right? Certainly not our own government.Ā
Iām sick and tired of living in a country where a bomb a month is the norm. Iām sick and tired of regular people dying every day because of an inept and incapable government. Iām sick and tired of being lied to. Iām sick and tired of fat rich old men going on TV and talking about loss as if they understand. Iām sick and tired of Turkish people shouldering the consequences of a corrupt and disgusting manās decisions. Iām sick and tired of my friends having to mark themselves as āsafeā on Facebook every other day because another bomb has gone off. Iām sick and tired of being silenced and being afraid. Iām sick and tired of being sick and tired.Ā
I know weāre not Paris. I know weāre not Europe. Itās easy to look at terror attacks that happen in London, in New York, in Paris and feel pain and sadness for those victims, right? Why not here? Why not us? Whereās the international outcry? Whereās the rage? Is it because you just donāt realise that Ankara is no different from any of these cities?Ā
Please talk about this. Spread it all the more because they desperately donāt want people to know. Weāre dying. Every day weāre fucking dying.Ā
