How do you feel about the recent accusations towards Louis CK? I know he is one of your favorite comedians so I'm curious if you have a take on it
I saw this pop up in my asks today so I will answer it while the news is more relevant. In the future if I see questions that are about current events I will most likely push them to the top of my list of things to reply to.
To answer your question, I think the entire situation is insane. The very first thing you need to do when examining any situation like this is look for consent. Â It doesnât matter if you think someones kink is icky or if you think a person is unattractive. I donât know all the facts but it seems like all parties have agreed that everything that happened was consensual. If that is truly the case then the reaction to it is disturbing and proves that we live in a time where people are addicted to outrage.
Iâve seen people mention Louis had power over the women he was doing this with so therefore it isnât truly consensual. What power exactly? The people that said yes were not threatened in any way, women that said no were left alone. The only power the women could have felt was the power that we give a celebrity when we unnecessarily idolize them.
The reality is every celebrity (big or small) has power over their fans. If Angelina Jolie asks a man to have sex with her she is unknowingly exercising power over that person. Is she supposed to never have sex because people idolize her? Is it okay because sex is ânormalâ but exhibitionist masturbation isnât ânormalâ? I in no way condone lewd acts in a public place where people are forced to experience something they did not consent to, but this is not that. Do we really want to start going into peoples bedrooms and policing what gets them off in a private setting?
I personally have been an exhibitionist for most of my life and I masturbate in front of thousands of people on a weekly basis. Now I know its different because Iâm considered an attractive female but it really isnât. Every time I have ever had sex or masturbated in front of someone Iâve had their consent. If they change their mind at a later time does that make me a sexual predator? If so, anyone that has ever had a sexual partner change their mind at a later time is a sexual predator.
Some people may take issue with the bluntness or randomness of Louisâ acts but for him that might be an aspect of his kink that turns him on the most. I donât personally share that kink or understand it but that doesnât mean he shouldnât be allowed to have it. After all, we do not choose what turns us on or what we are attracted to, those things come from a place that canât really be explained. Whats important is that you arenât forcing your kinks onto another person and I donât believe he did.
At the end of the day what Louis CK did may make you cringe, it might be something you donât personally like or understand, but that doesnât give you or anyone the right to publicly shame him. I think we all have fantasies or fetishes that we privately get off on, imagine a past sexual partner telling millions of people (including your family and friends) what kinks you have and then you being attacked and put down for them publicly.
The women involved should have said no and moved on. If they regretted their decision they should have been adults, accepted personal responsibility for their mistake, and asked themselves why they were willing to take part in something they were not truly okay with. I have done so many things in my life that I regret, I have not once shamed or attacked a person involved for my choices.
Louis CK has lost 4 projects he was working on and he isnât the only one being punished. The editors, actors, film crew, etc involved in those projects have all had their work taken from them. His daughters are teenagers that are going to go through years of hell because of this. All those people are suffering for what? Because a handful of women made regrettable decisions that led to them being uncomfortable for a few minutes? Are we so sexually repressed in this country that the sheer thought of an appendage being tugged on for a few minutes is traumatizing? Iâm sorry but the punishments do not fit the imaginary crime.
There are real sexual predators in this world, predators like Harvey Weinstein that prey on vulnerable people and get off on causing physical/psychological harm to their victims. Louis CK is not one of them and in no way does he deserve the backlash that he is getting.
