Your art is so so beautiful i adore your style...im so glad i stumbled across your blog, what a blessing! : ) Your anatomy is so good in all your pieces, especially the hands! Do you have any tips for improving anatomy?
Thank you, this is so kind!
In school I think it's common to be told that you need to learn the rules to break the rules, and there's a lot of drawing figures/hands specifically as tubes, adding lines to determine the perspective, just endless math.
And that's perfectly valid, but as someone who failed out of art it ultimately didn't help me build technical skill (your mileage might vary!) as my brain just....doesn't work on that level.
Something that is undeniable is practice is everything- but don't feel you need to micromanage yourself. I think I spent so many years painstakingly trying to adhere to the fundamentals of drawing and it was just so bad. I still feel thick and slow a lot of the time, but I'm happiest with my yield when I'm not overthinking it.
As far as actions you can take, I love people drawing, and life drawing- if you don't have access to someone to draw IRL, use candid video of a person and watch it through as often as you need. You can still pause and find a specific pose, but I suggest letting the video run/loop and just letting yourself loosen up. I'd add if you're having difficulty getting started, give yourself a large space to work on, an a large writing implement so that you're forced to avoid detail (at least at first). It may help you get posing and emotion down on the page. Same principle for hands, if I'm stuck I'll throw on some candid reference film (I video a lot of my own stuff and have it in a folder for easy access, all sorts of video of environments and actions) and just let it play and sketch out 3-4 options.
With time things become second nature and I found it became much easier to put what I was seeing in my head directly onto the page with limited intervention.

Absolutely love your art! It feels both soft and... grounded? If that makes sense? Something comforting in how they're portrayed as imperfect but still loved and living. Keep on keeping on! :D
Thank you so much, I've been keeping this in my inbox just to look at. ;n;
